Checked 25 September 2026. From the NVS prospectus for JNVST 2027 and the NVS admission portal (live on 25 September 2026, and its 9 August 2026 capture). The admit-card date has not been announced; check the portal.
The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test for admission to Class VI in 2027-28 — JNVST 2027 — will be held on Saturday 28 November 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Unlike JNVST 2026, which ran in two phases, it is one test day for the whole country: the prospectus says it will be held “for Summer bound and Winter bound JNVs in single phase”. This guide sets out every date that matters to a parent between now and the child’s first day at a Navodaya Vidyalaya, from NVS’s own documents, and flags the dates that other pages still get wrong.

How long until JNVST 2027?
Test: Saturday 28 November 2026, 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM IST, one phase for summer-bound and winter-bound JNVs. Candidates must be seated by 11:00 AM; late comers are not allowed in (NVS prospectus 2027).
Where other pages get this wrong
The JNVST 2027 application deadline was extended to 10 August 2026, with a correction window on 11 and 12 August 2026.
Commonly published instead: “Registration deadline extended to 7 August 2026”, and in one article both “28 November” and “8 November” as the test date.

One phase instead of two
Until last year, Navodaya held its test twice. JNVST 2026 had a first phase on 13 December 2025 for most of India and a second on 11 April 2026 for “winter-bound” areas — the hill and north-eastern districts whose schools follow a different academic calendar. For JNVST 2027 both groups sit on the same day. If you live in one of the areas below and remember an April test from last year, it does not apply this time.
| Area | JNVST 2026 phase 2 (11 Apr 2026) covered |
|---|---|
| Jammu & Kashmir | All districts except Jammu-I, Jammu-II, Samba and Udhampur |
| Himachal Pradesh | Chamba, Kinnaur, Mandi, Sirmour, Kullu, Lahaul & Spiti, Solan, Shimla |
| North-east | Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim; Dibang Valley and Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh) |
| West Bengal and Ladakh | Darjeeling; Leh and Kargil |
| JNVST 2027 | Everyone sits on 28 November 2026 |

How the 2027 timeline differs from 2026
| Item | JNVST 2026 | JNVST 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Last date (prospectus) | 29 July 2025 | 31 July 2026 (extended to 10 August) |
| Test | 13 Dec 2025 and 11 Apr 2026 | 28 Nov 2026, single phase |
| Result | End March (summer-bound) and May (winter-bound) | By the end of March 2027 |
| Wait lists | Two wait lists | None — next candidate filled automatically |
| Admission closes | 31 December 2026 | 31 August 2027 |
NVS prospectuses for JNVST 2026 and 2027. The 2026 summer-bound result was reported out on 17 March 2026; the winter-bound select lists published on navodaya.gov.in are dated 14 May 2026.
The earlier test date also moves everything else forward. A child sitting on 28 November has roughly two weeks less preparation time than a phase-1 child had last year, but the family will know the result in the same March window — and the whole admission process has to finish by 31 August 2027 instead of running to the end of the year.
The admit card
NVS says the admit cards “will be made available as per date decided by NVS in due course”, displayed on the admission portal and downloaded free of cost before the test. On 25 September 2026 no admit-card link or notice had appeared on the portal or on navodaya.gov.in. The admit card names the examination centre, and no change of centre is allowed. A child cannot sit the test without it. Download it as soon as it appears, check the name, photograph, date of birth and medium, and keep two printed copies.
Besides the admit card, the child must bring either the candidate’s Aadhaar card or the parent’s Government residence certificate that was uploaded in the application; the invigilator also matches the photo on the admit card with the child. Answers are marked on a separate OMR sheet with a blue or black ball-point pen — pencils are not allowed — so pack two working pens.
On test day
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| By 11:00 AM | Candidates must be seated in their rooms; late comers are not allowed in |
| 11:30 AM | Test begins: one booklet with all three sections, 80 questions |
| Every 30 minutes | A bell rings; time between sections can be adjusted by the child |
| 1:30 PM | Test ends; nobody may leave before the full time |
| +40 minutes | Extra time for Divyang candidates |

After the test: result and admission
The result is “expected to be announced by end of March, 2027”. It is published on the admission portal and also displayed at the JNV, the District Education Officer, the District Magistrate and the NVS regional office, and on navodaya.gov.in. The Principal of the JNV also informs provisionally selected candidates by speed post. The marking is done by machine: NVS says there is no re-evaluation, re-totalling or manual scrutiny, so make sure the booklet number is copied correctly on the OMR sheet.
Selection is provisional until documents are verified. Parents will be asked for the child’s birth certificate (issued on or before the date of registration or the test), the parent’s residence certificate for the district, the child’s Aadhaar, a Head Master’s certificate of Classes III–V with the rural or urban location of the school, category and disability certificates where claimed, an undertaking about migration, and the transfer certificate. There are no wait lists in 2027: if a selected child does not take the seat or cannot produce the certificates, the next candidate in the same category and quota is “auto-populated” on the portal. The whole process closes by 31 August 2027.
JNVST 2027 study planner
Choose your likely exam day and how many hours a week you can study. The planner counts the weeks left from today and splits your total hours across the paper.
All four areas carry 25 marks each, and Mental Ability and EVS share one 60-minute block in the paper. The planner deliberately tilts time towards Mental Ability (30%) over EVS (20%), because non-verbal figure questions are the least familiar to most Class V children while EVS overlaps school textbooks. The split is our suggestion, not NVS’s.
Practise it, don't just read it
The test is on 28 November 2026. Mirror and water images, figure series and reading-comprehension passages are the question types that improve fastest with timed practice.
The ProSyllabus JNVST library has topic quizzes on mirror and water images, figure series, arithmetic and reading-comprehension passages — the first quiz is free.
