Alerts and Updates for Studieprøven — Danish C1 Study Test

Updates as of September 22, 2026

The written Studieprøven paper for the winter 2026 term sits on 9 November 2026, a day before Prøve i Dansk 3, with oral examinations held between 2 and 15 December 2026. Registration for all four state Danish tests in this term closed on 31 August 2026, so the November sitting is now shut to new candidates.

Dansk og Prøver

The 2027 examination dates were not yet on the official deadlines page at the time of writing. Dansk og Prøver states that the 2027 dates will be published on that page by 1 October 2026, which is the point at which a candidate planning a 2027 university application can fix a realistic timeline.

Dansk og Prøver

Studieskolen in Copenhagen lists 1,974 DKK for the full Studieprøven, and 987 DKK for the written part or the oral part taken on its own. That split price reflects the fact that the written and oral parts may be taken in different examination terms, which the official description of the test confirms.

Studieskolen

The University of Copenhagen accepts a passed Studieprøven in place of Dansk A, but the threshold is not uniform. Most bachelor programmes require a minimum grade of 2 in all three parts, while odontology, dental hygiene and medicine at both the Copenhagen and Køge locations require a grade of 7 in each of the three parts.

University of Copenhagen

In the official mapping of the four state tests, Studieprøven is the C1 test concluding Danskuddannelse 3 after module 6, and is the one that satisfies the Danish language entry requirement at higher education institutions for applicants without a Danish-language qualifying examination.

Dansk og Prøver

For the summer 2026 term the deadline was 9 March 2026 and the written Studieprøven paper sat on 18 May 2026, with orals from 10 to 23 June 2026. That pattern, a March deadline for a May written paper, is the template for the summer term but the 2027 figures remain unconfirmed.

Studieprøven at a glance

ElementDetail
LevelCEFR C1, concluding Danskuddannelse 3 after module 6
Reading comprehension25 minutes for part 1, then 65 minutes for parts 2A, 2B and 3
Written production3 hours, giving a written day of roughly 3.5 hours in total
Oral communicationAbout 30 minutes, including a roughly 5-minute prepared presentation and about 15 minutes of discussion
Pass ruleA grade of 02 or above in each of the three parts, graded separately
Fee1,974 DKK full test at Studieskolen; 987 DKK for the written or oral part alone

Studieprøven is graded as three independent results rather than an average, so a weak component cannot be offset. The written and oral parts may be taken in different examination terms, which is why providers price the halves separately.

Studieprøven is written on the first of the four consecutive test days each term, ahead of Prøve i Dansk 3, 2 and 1. A candidate who needs the result for a university application must allow for the December oral window and for certification time after it.

What this means for your preparation

Applicants from India routinely treat Studieprøven as simply the next rung above Prøve i Dansk 3. It is not the same kind of instrument. It is graded as three separate results with a floor in each, it exists to satisfy a university admission requirement rather than a residence condition, and the grade a Danish faculty demands can be far above the grade that counts as a pass.

Passing and being admitted are different bars

The official pass rule is a grade of 02 or above in each of the reading, written production and oral communication parts. Admission is a separate question decided by the institution. The University of Copenhagen lists a passed Studieprøven as a route to meeting the Danish A requirement, but sets a minimum grade of 2 in all three parts for most bachelor programmes and a grade of 7 in each of the three parts for odontology, dental hygiene and medicine at Copenhagen and Køge. A candidate aiming at a Danish-taught health science programme therefore needs a result several bands above the pass line, and should plan preparation against the faculty threshold rather than the national one.

Three independent grades, no averaging

Unlike Prøve i Dansk 3, where a weighted average of 2.0 with the oral counted double decides the outcome, Studieprøven requires the threshold to be cleared in every part on its own. There is no compensation. That changes how to allocate study time: the weakest of the three skills sets the result, so effort should go where the gap is largest rather than where progress feels fastest. The reading and writing components together make a written day of about three and a half hours, and the oral is a substantial 30 minutes with a prepared presentation followed by roughly fifteen minutes of discussion, which is a different task from the ten-minute B2 oral.

Splitting the test across two terms

The official description states the written and oral parts may be taken in different examination periods, and Studieskolen prices the halves separately at 987 DKK each against 1,974 DKK for the full test. That is a genuine planning option for a candidate whose speaking is behind their reading, or the reverse. The cost of splitting is time: the terms are six months apart, so a deliberate split pushes the complete result into the following year. For an applicant working to a university application deadline, splitting is usually only sensible when one half is already passed and the other has to be retaken.

Count backwards from the admission deadline

The examination calendar is rigid. Registration for the November 2026 term closed on 31 August 2026, and orals run to 15 December 2026, after which a result and documentation still have to reach the institution. Danish universities have their own application and documentation deadlines, which the University of Copenhagen keeps on a separate deadlines page. Anyone planning an autumn 2027 start should establish, in October 2026 when the 2027 dates are published, whether the summer 2027 term produces a documented result in time, and treat the winter 2026 term as already lost rather than assuming a late substitution is possible.

Register with a school, not a portal

Registration is made directly with a test provider. The March 2026 notice from Dansk og Prøver describes candidates registering at one of 48 language schools across the country, and a single registration covers the written and oral parts together. Fees are set by each provider, so the Studieskolen figures are an indication rather than a national price list. Providers also impose their own operational rules: Studieskolen requires prior approval to use a laptop for the written parts, with an email at least 30 days before the test, and requires valid photo identification on the day. Students finishing Danish education 3 module 6 are normally enrolled and covered by their school.

Common questions

When is the next Studieprøven and is registration still open?

The written paper for the winter 2026 term is on 9 November 2026 and the orals run from 2 to 15 December 2026. Registration for that term closed on 31 August 2026 and cannot be reopened. The next opportunity is the summer 2027 term, whose dates were not published as of 22 September 2026; Dansk og Prøver says the 2027 dates will appear on its deadlines page by 1 October 2026. In 2026 the summer term had a 9 March deadline and an 18 May written paper.

What is the pass mark for Studieprøven?

You receive three grades, one each for reading comprehension, written production and oral communication. The test is passed with a grade of 02 or higher in every one of the three parts. There is no averaging and no compensation between parts, so a single component below the threshold means the test is not passed. This is a stricter structure than Prøve i Dansk 3, which is passed on a weighted average of at least 2.0 with the oral grade counted double.

Does Studieprøven let me into a Danish university?

It is the recognised route for the Danish language entry requirement at higher education institutions for applicants without a Danish-language qualifying examination. The University of Copenhagen accepts it in place of Dansk A, requiring a minimum grade of 2 in all three parts for most bachelor programmes, and a grade of 7 in each of the three parts for odontology, dental hygiene and medicine. Other institutions and programmes set their own thresholds, so confirm the requirement for your specific programme.

Can I take the written and oral parts in different terms?

Yes. The official description of Studieprøven states that the written and oral parts can be taken in separate examination periods, and providers price them separately for that reason: Studieskolen lists 987 DKK for either half and 1,974 DKK for the full test. The practical cost is the six-month gap between terms, so splitting deliberately delays a complete result. It is most useful when one half has already been passed and only the other needs to be retaken.

How does Studieprøven differ from Prøve i Dansk 3?

Studieprøven is the C1 test concluding Danskuddannelse 3 after module 6, while Prøve i Dansk 3 is the B2 test concluding the same education after module 5. The oral is around 30 minutes with a prepared presentation and a discussion, against roughly 10 minutes at B2, and written production runs 3 hours against 2.5. The uses differ too: Studieprøven addresses higher education admission, while Prøve i Dansk 3 is the level named for citizenship applications and healthcare authorisation.

Do I need Studieprøven if my programme is taught in English?

No. Studieprøven addresses the Danish language entry requirement for programmes taught in Danish. English-taught programmes in Denmark set their own English language requirements instead, which are documented separately by each institution. Indian applicants to English-taught masters programmes therefore do not need Studieprøven for admission, though a Danish qualification may still matter later for work, for professional authorisation, or as part of a residence or citizenship route, where Prøve i Dansk 2 and Prøve i Dansk 3 are the tests named.
