Alerts and Updates for GATE Mechanical Engineering

GATE 2027 is organized by IIT Madras, whose official notification and brochure was released on 20 July 2026 at the gate2027.iitm.ac.in portal. Mechanical Engineering (ME) is one of 30 papers, held as a computer-based test on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027.

GOAPS registration for GATE 2027, originally planned for 14 August 2026, was postponed and opened on 27 August 2026 instead. The regular deadline without late fee is 27 September 2026, with a late-fee window until 5 October 2026; DigiLocker registration and live facial verification are now mandatory.

The revised GATE 2027 Mechanical Engineering (ME) syllabus adds two-degree-of-freedom systems, transmissibility ratio, PID controllers and transfer functions under Vibrations, adds belt drives under Machine Design, and creates a new dedicated Additive Manufacturing topic covering its principles, advantages, limitations and applications.

Further ME 2027 additions include Cauchy's integral theorem and contour integral formula plus single- and multi-step ODE methods under Engineering Mathematics, rolling resistance and plane trusses/frames under Engineering Mechanics, and velocity potential, high-speed compressible flow, boiling and condensation under Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer.

IIT Madras has not yet assigned the ME paper a specific date or session within the six exam days; this is expected to be confirmed only when admit cards are released. GATE 2027 results are scheduled for 19 March 2027, per the official portal.

GATE 2027 will be conducted by IIT Madras, but the official notification is still not out. As of July 11, 2026 reports point to a release in late July or August 2026, with the GOAPS application window expected to open around August 24, 2026 and close on September 29, 2026.

As per the tentative schedule circulating ahead of the notification, GATE 2027 is expected on February 6, 7, 13 and 14, 2027, as a three-hour computer-based test across 30 papers. The exact day and shift for the Mechanical Engineering (ME) paper will be confirmed only in the official IIT Madras brochure.

IIT Guwahati's official GATE 2026 cut-off table lists Mechanical Engineering (ME) qualifying marks as 25.2 for General, 22.6 for OBC-NCL and EWS, and 16.7 for SC, ST and PwD. Treat these as the realistic floor while setting a GATE 2027 target score.

Admissions on the current GATE 2026 score are still running. CCMT completed Round 3 in late June 2026, and its schedule lists Special Round 1 seat allotment on July 22, 2026, Special Round 2 on July 27, 2026, and a national spot round allotment on August 5, 2026.

The official GATE opportunities page lists the PSUs that recruit on GATE scores, including IOCL, NTPC, BHEL, ONGC, Power Grid, SAIL, HAL, NPCIL and Coal India, most of which hire mechanical engineers. It also warns that qualifying in GATE does not by itself guarantee a PSU job or admission.
