GATE 2027 is organized by IIT Madras, whose official notification and brochure was released on 20 July 2026 at the gate2027.iitm.ac.in portal. Electrical Engineering (EE) is one of 30 papers, held as a computer-based test on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027.

GOAPS registration for GATE 2027, originally planned for 14 August 2026, was postponed and opened on 27 August 2026 instead. The regular deadline without late fee is 27 September 2026, with a late-fee window until 5 October 2026; DigiLocker registration and live facial verification are now mandatory.

A branch-wise syllabus analysis lists renewable-energy-linked additions to the GATE 2027 EE paper, including Smart Grid, Electric Vehicles, Energy Storage Systems and Power Electronics applications, reflecting an industry-alignment push seen across several papers this cycle. Candidates should verify exact section placement against the official EE syllabus PDF.

IIT Madras has not yet assigned the EE paper a specific date or session within the six exam days; this is expected to be confirmed only when admit cards are released. GATE 2027 results are scheduled for 19 March 2027, per the official portal.

IIT Madras is expected to be the organising institute, with the notification projected for late July 2026, the GOAPS application window around 24 August to 13 October 2026, and the exam expected on 6, 7, 13 and 14 February 2027. All these dates remain tentative.

IIT Guwahati declared the GATE 2026 result on 19 March 2026 along with paper-wise qualifying marks. Electrical Engineering (EE) closed at 27.7 marks for General, 24.9 for OBC-NCL/EWS and 18.4 for SC/ST/PwD, which is the realistic benchmark to beat while planning for GATE 2027.

No syllabus change has been announced for GATE 2027, so the GATE 2026 EE syllabus stays the working reference. The paper is a three-hour computer-based test of 100 marks: General Aptitude 15, Engineering Mathematics 13 and core Electrical topics 72, using MCQ, MSQ and NAT questions with negative marking only on MCQs.

GATE scores drive PSU hiring for Electrical candidates. NPCIL confirmed it uses GATE 2026 scores for Electrical (EE) among other disciplines and advertised 330 Executive Trainee posts with applications from 10 to 30 April 2026, while NTPC, ONGC, IOCL and other PSUs also shortlist on GATE scores.

A GATE score stays valid for three years from the announcement of results, so a GATE 2026 score declared on 19 March 2026 remains usable until March 2029 for M.Tech and PhD admissions and PSU recruitment. The official GATE 2027 brochure and GOAPS link will appear on the IIT Madras GATE portal.
