As of July 11, 2026 the Consortium of NLUs has not yet published the CLAT 2027 notification. Reports expect it in mid-July to August 2026, with registration opening around August 1, 2026 and the exam tentatively on Sunday, December 6, 2026. Treat all these dates as unconfirmed until the Consortium notifies them.

The Consortium's Advisory Board, chaired by Justice Indu Malhotra (Retd), set up an Expert Committee in October 2025 to recommend reforms to CLAT UG and PG. Public feedback ran from October 15 to November 4, 2025 and the committee reportedly submitted its recommendations on February 2, 2026, with changes expected from CLAT 2027.

The CLAT 2026 cycle is complete. The exam was held on December 7, 2025 and the result was declared on December 16, 2025, followed by five rounds of online counselling that ran into May 2026 across roughly 3,705 five-year LLB seats and 1,436 LLM seats.

The current CLAT UG paper has 120 passage-based multiple-choice questions for 120 marks in two hours, offline, with 0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer. Sections are English, Current Affairs and General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. Any pattern change for 2027 is still awaited.

The Consortium of National Law Universities released the CLAT UG 2026 fourth allotment list on May 9, 2026 at 2 PM. Candidates allotted seats had to confirm and pay the fee between May 9 (2 PM) and May 14 (2 PM), 2026.

The CLAT 2026 fifth and final merit list is scheduled for release on May 15, 2026. Central counselling under the CLAT Consortium will conclude on May 30, 2026.

CLAT 2026 counselling resumed after an Allahabad High Court judgment. Candidates allotted in round 4 had the option to "Float" once more to wait for the 5th list.

Several NLUs — MNLU Nagpur, NLU Assam, HNLU, RMNLU, GNLU Silvassa, HPNLU Shimla, NLU Tripura, RPNLU Prayagraj — are likely to conduct spot/mop-up admissions after the central counselling rounds.

CLAT 2026 was conducted on December 1, 2025 by the Consortium of NLUs in offline mode; result, final answer key and merit list have been declared. CLAT 2027 notification is expected in mid-2026 on consortiumofnlus.ac.in.
