CLAT 2026 Closing Ranks by NLU and Category: List 1 vs Final List

Checked 29 September 2026. Fixed data: CLAT 2026 lists 1 and 5. CLAT 2027 closing ranks will differ and will be published in its own allotment lists; the CLAT 2027 FAQ puts counselling in December 2026/January 2027.

Many pages say the Consortium of NLUs publishes no cut-offs. It does — at the foot of every programme's allotment PDF there is a Cut-Off Rank Table with the seats, the AIR cut-off and the category-rank cut-off of every category row. This guide compiles those official tables for all 37 undergraduate programmes of CLAT 2026: the General row in the first list (7 January 2026) and the fifth and final list (20 May 2026), and the all-India OBC, EWS, SC and ST rows of the final list. The compilation is ours; every figure is the Consortium's. A checker at the end tells you which programmes a rank would have reached.

How to read these numbers

Before you use a closing rank

  • AIR cut-off is the All India Rank of the last candidate admitted in that category row of that programme, in that list.
  • The General AIR cut-off is the rank of the last candidate admitted to an open General seat. Horizontal reservations (women, persons with disabilities, home-state seats) have their own rows and their own cut-offs in the same table; the table's footnote marks a seat allotted on the basis of a horizontal reservation with an asterisk.
  • Seat numbers can change between lists. At IIULER Goa the General seats rose from 49 to 61 (BA LLB) and from 24 to 33 (BBA LLB) between the first and fifth lists; the seats column below is the fifth list's.
  • List 5 is the fifth and final Consortium list. The list-5 PDF says that "Vacant" seats shown in its fourth-list table "are filled in the fifth list table". After list 5, NLUs may fill any leftover seats by their own rules.
  • Reserved-category candidates are also considered on the General row. A blank (—) means the programme had no all-India row of that category — for instance CNLU and the MNLUs fill reserved seats through state rows.

The 12 largest moves, in ranks. Our subtraction from the official tables above.

The pattern is consistent. At the top NLUs the cut-off barely moves: NLSIU went from 101 to 120, NALSAR from 148 to 168, GNLU Gandhinagar from 376 to 398. Lower down the list the movement is much larger: IIULER Goa's BA LLB moved by 544 ranks, NLU Tripura's by 395 and MNLU Chh. Sambhajinagar's BBA LLB by 288. The tables record how far each cut-off moved, not why. Two causes are visible in the documents themselves: candidates who Float or Exit free seats that later lists re-allot, and the seat matrix itself can change — IIULER Goa's General seats rose from 49 to 61 between list 1 and list 5, so part of its 544-rank move is simply more seats. If your rank is just outside a mid-table NLU in list 1, the later lists are where your chance lies — which is what the Float option is for (see the counselling guide in this series).

Same source as the table above. Values labelled on the chart.

At the five NLUs in the chart the order is the same: EWS closes lowest after General, then OBC, then SC, then ST. EWS was the tightest reserved row almost everywhere — at NLSIU the final EWS cut-off was 740 against 1,177 for OBC. The spread widens further down the table: at IIULER Goa's BA LLB the final ST cut-off was 25,555.

Why NLSIU reads 120 and not 108

Some pages give NLSIU's final General closing rank as 108, or another figure, instead of 120. The official Cut-Off Rank Table of the fifth list gives 120, and the list itself shows why a lower figure appears. The candidate at AIR 120 carries a women code but no asterisk, and the table's footnote uses the asterisk for a seat allotted on the basis of a horizontal reservation. So AIR 120 took an open General seat on merit. A reading that removes every candidate with any horizontal code from the General list drops that candidate and stops at 108 — which is a mistake in the filter, not a second cut-off. The Karnataka and disability rows, which are horizontal allotments, sit further down: the home-state rows at 336 and 427 and the disability row at 9,998.

Checking a cut-off you saw elsewhere

  • Open the programme's allotment PDF on the Consortium's CLAT 2026 site and scroll to the Cut-Off Rank Table at the end.
  • Match the category row exactly: General is not the same row as General-Karnataka, General-women or General-PWD.
  • Match the list: a list-1 figure and a list-5 figure for the same row can differ by hundreds of ranks.
  • Where a coaching or news page differs from the table, use the table. It is the Consortium's own document; the page is a report of it.

Using last year's ranks for CLAT 2027

A closing rank is only as useful as the conditions behind it. CLAT 2026 had 75,009 UG applicants, a 120-question paper scored out of 119, and counselling that ran from January to late May, with its later lists moved after the Allahabad High Court judgment. CLAT 2027's seat matrix, applicant pool and paper will all differ. Use the 2026 table as one year's reference for where each programme closed relative to the others, not as a target rank; this page has only one year of closing ranks, so it cannot tell you how stable that order is.

Where did your AIR fall inside the 2026 cut-offs?

Enter an All India Rank and choose the category row. The finder checks it against the AIR cut-off of that row in the Consortium's final (list 5) Cut-Off Rank Table for CLAT 2026, and for General also against list 1.

These are last year's closing ranks, not a forecast for CLAT 2027: seat numbers, applicant numbers and paper difficulty change every year. Reserved-category candidates are also considered on the General list. Programmes that fill a category only through state rows show no all-India figure and are left out.

Marks to rank is a different question, answered by the CLAT rank predictor; this page starts from the rank.

Practise it, don't just read it

Every rank in these tables was decided by the same five passage-based sections.

The ProSyllabus CLAT library has three quizzes today: reading-comprehension inference (English), international treaties and summits (current affairs) and constitutional-law principle application (legal reasoning).

Does the Consortium publish CLAT cut-offs?

Yes. Each programme's allotment PDF ends with a Cut-Off Rank Table listing seats, AIR cut-off and category-rank cut-off for every category row.

What was the NLSIU closing rank in CLAT 2026?

The General AIR cut-off was 101 in list 1 and 120 in the fifth and final list, for 121 General seats. The 2027 brochure lists 122 General seats.

What was the NALSAR closing rank in CLAT 2026?

148 in list 1 and 168 in the final list for General; OBC 915, EWS 713, SC 3,370 and ST 5,810 in the final list.

Why does NLSIU show 120 on one site and 108 on another?

The official Cut-Off Rank Table gives 120. The candidate at AIR 120 has a women code but no asterisk, so took an open General seat on merit. Dropping every candidate with a horizontal code from the list gives 108, but that filter is wrong. Use 120.

Which NLU had the highest General closing rank in CLAT 2026?

IIULER Goa's BBA LLB, at AIR 2,802 in the final list; its BA LLB closed at 2,671.

How many rounds of CLAT counselling were there in 2026?

Five allotment lists. The fifth, published on 20 May 2026, was final; after it NLUs may fill leftover seats themselves.

Can I get into an NLU with AIR 1,500 in the General category?

In CLAT 2026, AIR 1,500 was inside the final General cut-off of the programmes whose cut-off was 1,500 or higher — the checker on this page lists them. That was last year; CLAT 2027 will differ.

Is NLU Delhi in these cut-offs?

No. NLU Delhi does not take CLAT; it admits through AILET.
