MDU PG Eligibility: Minimum Marks by Programme and the Re-appear Rule

Eligibility for an MDU PG programme is a single threshold on your qualifying degree — usually 45% for M.A./M.Com./LL.B. and 50% for M.Sc., MBA, MCA and LL.M. — plus any subject conditions. Two rules catch people out. The relaxation for Haryana's SC/ST and differently-abled candidates is 5% of the requirement, not five percentage points, so 50% becomes 47.5% — though MCA, M.Pharm. and a few others print their own figures. And anyone with a re-appear pending in the qualifying exam is not eligible at all. Once you are eligible, your graduation marks play no further part: merit is the test score alone (GPAT first for M.Pharm.; sports weightage for M.P.Ed.).

Where other pages get this wrong
MDU's SC relaxation is 5% of the required marks, so a 50% requirement becomes 47.5% and 45% becomes 42.75%.
Commonly published instead: "SC relaxation: 45% for M.Sc." and "LL.M. eligibility 55% (50% for SC)".
The prospectus defines the relaxation as 5% of the requirement. LL.M. needs 50% (47.5% for SC/ST/PwD of Haryana), not 55%.
Subject conditions worth checking
Several programmes add a subject rule to the percentage. M.Sc. Physics needs Physics and Mathematics at B.Sc.; M.A. Psychology needs Psychology for three years; M.A. Geography needs Geography at UG; M.Com. accepts B.Com./BBA/BTM/BIM or a B.A./B.Sc. with Economics or Mathematics; MCA accepts BCA or computing degrees, or any degree with Mathematics at 10+2 or graduation (with a bridge course); M.Pharm. needs B.Pharm., and valid-GPAT candidates are admitted before anyone on MDU entrance merit. The Life Sciences programmes each list accepted degrees (B.Sc., B.Tech., B.Pharm., MBBS, BDS and more) — read your programme's line before you pay.
B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed.: the one place with weightage
Physical education is the exception to "test score only". Candidates first pass a Physical Efficiency Test (qualifying, no marks), then sit the entrance test, and sports weightage is added to the score — only the single highest achievement counts. B.P.Ed. needs a bachelor's with 45% (42.75% for SC/ST) and inter-college or state participation; M.P.Ed. needs a B.P.Ed. or equivalent with 55%, inter-university or senior national participation and a gradation certificate.

M.P.Ed. at MDU needs 55% in the qualifying degree plus sports participation and the PET.

M.Pharm.: GPAT first
M.Pharm. is the other programme where the MDU paper is not the whole story. Seats go first to candidates with a valid GPAT score, on GPAT merit; if GPAT candidates run out, the rest are filled on the MDU Pharmaceutical Sciences entrance score. In 2026 MDU published two separate M.Pharm. merit lists on 21 July, one "on the basis of GPAT score" and one "on the basis of entrance score". Eligibility is B.Pharm. with 55% — 50% for SC/ST candidates and for those with at least five years' professional experience.
Who counts as a Haryana resident
State Quota seats need Haryana residence under the state's guidelines, which the prospectus reproduces in Appendix A. They include candidates who passed the qualifying exam from a school or college in Haryana; children of Haryana government and statutory-body employees; dependants of Haryana pensioners; those with a permanent home or at least 15 years' residence in the state; wives of Haryana residents; and some born in Haryana. The proof is a Haryana Resident Certificate — or, for a Haryana graduate, a certificate from the Principal of the college.

Before you apply
- Check your exact percentage — MDU does not round, and 49.99% is not 50%.
- Clear any re-appear before applying; it makes you ineligible.
- If you are in your final semester, plan to submit the detailed marksheet by the August deadline.
- Get a Haryana Resident Certificate, not a domicile certificate, if you want State Quota seats.

Is GPAT required for M.Pharm. at MDU?
GPAT holders are admitted first; remaining seats go on MDU's own entrance score.
Is there sports weightage in MDU PG admission?
Only for B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed., where the highest sports achievement adds up to 25 marks to the entrance score.
