MAH B.Des CAP Counselling: Rounds, Freeze Rules, Fees and Documents

The MAH B.Des CET score card arrives in June, but nothing is allotted until the Centralised Admission Process (CAP), which runs from July to September on a separate B.Design portal. It is online from start to finish — registration, document verification, option forms, allotments and the acceptance fee — and it has rules that catch people out, above all the auto-freeze rule that ends your participation if you are allotted one of your top choices. This guide walks through the 2026-27 process and the dates of both recent cycles.

The steps

E-Scrutiny or physical scrutiny?
At registration you choose how your documents are checked. E-Scrutiny means the uploaded scans are verified online and you never visit a centre — convenient, but any unclear or missing scan comes back to you as a query that must be answered in the window. Physical scrutiny means taking originals to a facilitation centre. Whichever you choose, the rule on category certificates is the same: without the originals or valid receipts at verification you are counted as General. Upload clear, complete scans the first time.

Freeze, betterment and the rule that ends your CAP
Every allotment in Rounds I–III either auto-freezes or leaves you a choice. In Round I, being allotted your first preference freezes it; in Round II, any of your first three; in Round III, any of your first six. A frozen seat takes you out of later rounds — you must report to the institute. Otherwise you may self-freeze or accept with Not Freeze / Betterment and stay in the next round for something higher on your list. Round IV allotment is final. The practical lesson: put first only a college you would actually join, because in Round I it will not let you go.
Building your option form
A sensible order
- Put first only the college you most want and would definitely join — a Round I first-preference allotment freezes.
- Follow with colleges whose Round I closing merit score last year, in your own category and candidature (Maharashtra or All India), was near yours.
- Add two or three where the closing score was well below yours, so you are sure of a seat.
- Re-check the vacancy list before each round: seats change, and in 2025 BRICK School of Architecture and Mangaldeep first appeared in the Round II and Round III vacancy lists.

Documents and certificates
Reserved-category candidates must show original Caste or Tribe Validity certificates, and a Non-Creamy Layer certificate valid up to 31 March of the following year; without them — or valid receipts — they are counted as General. EWS needs the state-format certificate. Receipt-holders must produce the certificate at a scrutiny centre and give it to the institute by the last reporting date of Round IV, or the admission is cancelled and they are treated as Open at the institute stage. Get these certificates started in the spring: a caste validity certificate can take weeks.
CAP mistakes that cost seats
- Listing a college first that you would not join — Round I freezes it.
- Missing CAP registration: without it there is no CAP seat at all.
- Not reporting after a freeze or Round IV allotment within the window.
- Arriving at verification without original category certificates — you become General.
- Skipping the institute-level option form: many seats are filled there.
One more point from the numbers: with 422 CAP seats still vacant after Round IV in 2025 and 369 in 2026, the institute-level round is a real route in, not a formality. The institute-level option form opens during CAP (from 4 August in 2026), so fill it in your login while the rounds are still running, and keep in touch with the institutes you listed.

Four CAP rounds, followed by institute-level admissions to the institutional quota and leftover seats.
What is auto-freeze in MAH B.Des CAP?
If you are allotted your first preference in Round I, one of your first three in Round II, or one of your first six in Round III, the seat freezes and you leave CAP to report to the institute.
What is betterment in MAH CAP?
Accepting a seat with "Not Freeze / Betterment" keeps it while you take part in the next round for a higher preference.
What is the seat acceptance fee for MAH B.Des CAP?
₹1,000, paid once at your first acceptance, and not refunded.
Is MAH B.Des counselling online or offline?

In 2025 registration opened on 30 June and in 2026 on 8 July; the 2027 dates are not announced.
Can I cancel my MAH B.Des admission and get a refund?
Before the last date for full refund (13 Sep in 2026), fees are refunded minus ₹1,000; after that only the security deposit is returned.
Do UCEED candidates need to register for MAH B.Des CAP?
Yes. UCEED-only candidates register on the CAP portal and paid ₹2,200 (₹1,700 reserved) in 2026.
What is E-Scrutiny in MAH CAP?
Online verification of your uploaded documents, with no visit to a facilitation centre. Physical scrutiny at a centre is the alternative.
What happens if I do not report after a frozen allotment?
A frozen seat takes you out of later rounds; if you do not accept and report in the window, you lose that seat. Round IV allotment is final.
Can I get a B.Des seat after CAP Round IV?
Yes. Institutes fill their quota and leftover seats at the institute level from registered, verified candidates who filled the institute-level option form — and more than 350 CAP seats were still vacant after Round IV in 2025 and 2026.
