Checked 29 September 2026. From the JENPAS(UG)-2026 bulletin and counselling notification. The 2027 bulletin may change any criterion; the criteria come from WBUHS, the state health department and national councils.
JENPAS(UG) has two layers of eligibility, and most confusion online comes from mixing them. One set of rules decides who may sit the exam; a second, course-by-course set decides who may be admitted to B.Sc Nursing, BPT, BMLS, BHA and the rest. The 45%/40% aggregate and the INC percentile bar are nursing rules, not general ones. This guide separates the layers, using the JENPAS(UG)-2026 bulletin — the latest official version — and includes a checker for your own case.
Who can sit the exam
| Rule (2026 bulletin, clause 3.1) | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Citizenship | Citizen of India |
| Domicile | Domicile of West Bengal (defined below) |
| Qualification | Class 12 (10+2) passed, or appearing in 2026 |
| Minimum age | At least 17 years on 31.12.2026 |
Domicile, in clause 6.1, means one of two things: you have lived in West Bengal continuously for at least 10 years as on 31.12.2025, or a parent is a permanent resident with a permanent address in the state. The first needs proforma A1 or A2; the second needs proforma B or any two of the parent's Voter ID, Aadhaar, passport or ration card. Clause 6.0 then repeats that domicile is required "for admission in any category of seat in any course in any institute" — it is not only for reserved or state-quota seats.
Where other pages get this wrong
West Bengal domicile is required both to sit JENPAS UG and for every seat.
Commonly published instead: Domicile "only for state-quota seats", or the 45%/40% aggregate and the percentile bar presented as rules for every course.
Clauses 3.1 and 6.0 of the 2026 bulletin make domicile a condition of appearing and of admission to any seat. The 45%/40% aggregate and the INC percentile rule appear only against B.Sc Nursing.
Course by course: subjects and aggregates
The 2026 bulletin prints the academic criteria as a table whose columns are misaligned in the PDF. This is our reading of it; if your case is borderline, confirm with WBJEEB.
| Course group | Subjects to pass individually | Aggregate of those subjects | Pass in English | Class 12 aggregate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| B.Sc Nursing | Physics, Chemistry, Biology | 45% General/EWS; 40% SC/ST/OBC/PwD | Required | — |
| BPT, BOT | Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English | 50% General/EWS; 40% SC/ST/OBC/PwD | Required | — |
| BMLS, BAOTT, BRT, MMB, BPA, BEMT, BMRIT, CSIC | Physics, Chemistry, Biology | None | Not listed | — |
| BOPTM (optometry) | Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics | 50% General/EWS; 40% SC/ST/OBC/PwD (P, C, B/M) | Not listed | — |
| BHA | Any 10+2 stream | — | Required | 50% General/EWS; 45% SC/ST/OBC/PwD |
The practical upshot: BHA is the only course open to Arts and Commerce students; optometry accepts Mathematics in place of Biology; and the eight allied courses in the third row have no aggregate cut-off at all — a pass in the three sciences is enough to be admitted if your rank reaches a seat.
The nursing percentile rule
After the result, B.Sc Nursing admission also needs a minimum percentile in the entrance test "as per the INC Guideline". The bulletin prints it as a note under the ranking rules:
| Category | Minimum percentile in the entrance test |
|---|---|
| General, and General EWS | 50th |
| General PwD | 45th |
| SC, ST, OBC (including OBC-A and OBC-B) | 40th |
This applies to nursing only. The Board does not publish how many candidates were ranked, so a rank cannot be converted into a percentile from public data; nursing seats in 2026 went as deep as rank 25,385, and the percentile rule is checked against your score at admission. The counselling notification repeats only the 45%/40% Class 12 rule for nursing.
Age limits
| Course | Minimum age | Upper age limit |
|---|---|---|
| B.Sc Nursing | 17 on 31.12.2026 | None |
| BPT, BOT | 17 on 31.12.2026 | None |
| BMRIT | 17 on 31.12.2026 | 35 |
| BMLS, BOPTM, BAOTT, BRT, BPA, BEMT, MMB, CSIC, BHA | 17 on 31.12.2026 | 40 |
The bulletin does not say on what date the upper limit is measured. Our checker uses 31.12.2026 (the minimum-age date) and says so; if you are within a few months of 35 or 40, ask the Board before you apply.
Gender
| Course | Who can be admitted |
|---|---|
| B.Sc Nursing, government colleges | Women only |
| B.Sc Nursing, private colleges | Women; a few private colleges are for men only |
| Every other course, government and private | Men and women |
| 2026 seat matrix | Seats |
|---|---|
| Nursing seats for women | 8,260 |
| Nursing seats for men (10 private colleges) | 600 |
| Seats open to both (all allied and BHA) | 4,405 |
| Deepest 2026 open closing rank for a nursing seat | Rank 25,385 |
In the 2026 seat matrix, nursing had 8,260 seats for women and 600 for men, the men's seats all in 10 private colleges. There were 4,405 seats open to both — every allied and BHA seat. If you are a male candidate aiming at nursing, your realistic set is those ten colleges; the seat-matrix guide has a filter for them.
The OBC reservation changed in the middle of the 2026 cycle
The two official documents disagree, and the later one governed counselling. The 2026 bulletin reserves seats for OBC-Category-A (More Backward) and OBC-Category-B (Backward) under the West Bengal notifications of May and June 2025, and it promised separate OBC-A and OBC-B category ranks. On 16.06.2026 — nine days after the exam — notice JEEB/Reg-67/2026 opened a portal (16–19.06.2026) for candidates to declare their OBC class "as appearing in the list notified vide Gazette Notification No. 945-BCW/MR-23/2026 dated 18.05.2026", to avail "7% reservation for OBC" — one OBC class, not two. Non-creamy-layer status follows the Backward Classes Welfare memo No. 1037(64)/Secy-BCW/MR-33/2025(Pt.V).
| Document | What it says about OBC |
|---|---|
| JENPAS(UG)-2026 bulletin (23.03.2026) | OBC-A (More Backward) and OBC-B (Backward), under 2025 notifications; separate OBC-A and OBC-B ranks |
| Notice JEEB/Reg-67/2026 (16.06.2026) | One OBC class, 7% reservation, under Gazette No. 945-BCW/MR-23/2026 dated 18.05.2026; declaration portal 16–19.06.2026 |
| NCL memo 1037(64)/Secy-BCW/MR-33/2025(Pt.V) | Dated 29.05.2026 in notice Reg-67; quoted as "Dt. 20-05-26" in counselling notification WBE/EX-49 |
| 2026 seat matrix and 2026 closing-rank report | One OBC column |
| 2025 closing-rank report | Separate OBC-A and OBC-B columns |
We print the conflict rather than resolve it: the bulletin was never corrected, the counselling portal followed the June notice, and the memo's date is given two ways. For 2027, read the new bulletin's reservation clause and the OBC certificate format it asks for before you apply. The 2026 bulletin asked for an OBC non-creamy-layer certificate issued on or after 01.04.2026.
Documents you will be asked for
| Document | When |
|---|---|
| Admit card, rank card, confirmation page | Counselling and admission; originals, printed from the portal |
| Domicile certificate (proforma A1, A2 or B, or two parental ID documents) | Counselling and admission |
| Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates | Admission |
| Category certificate; OBC non-creamy-layer certificate issued on or after 01.04.2026 | Counselling and admission |
| Medical fitness certificate in the bulletin's format | Admission (all courses) |
| Physical fitness certificate and two character references | Admission to courses under the national allied-health commission (NCAHP) |
| PwD certificate and verification at a designated medical college | Before counselling, for PwD candidates |
Screenshots and phone photos of documents are not accepted — the bulletin says so in its general rules. And a rank does not guarantee a seat: if a document fails verification, the Board corrects your information, which can move you to the general category or make you ineligible for some courses.

Practise it, don't just read it
Eligibility gets you into the exam; rank gets you the seat. Once your subjects and age check out, the Physics, Chemistry and Biology quizzes are where the rank is decided.
The ProSyllabus JENPAS-UG library has five topic quizzes of ten questions each: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany), Biology (Zoology) and Basic English and Health Aptitude. Every question comes with an explanation.
Frequently asked questions
What is the age limit for JENPAS UG?
