UK Civil Service Judgement Test (CSJT) Group Discussion
The Civil Service Judgement Test (CSJT) is an online situational judgement test used in recruitment for UK Civil Service jobs. GOV.UK lists it among the commonly used Civil Service online tests; the job advert says whether a vacancy uses it, and candidates are sent an invitation to take it online as a stage of their application. The official guidance, published on GOV.UK by Government People Group, Civil Service Resourcing and the Government Recruitment Service, mentions no charge for the test. It measures judgement and decision-making against the Civil Service Behaviours chosen for the job, at the level of the job applied for. There are two parts. The first is a self-assessment of typical behaviour and preferences at work, which makes up 15% of the overall score. In the second, candidates read or watch workplace scenarios and rate each of four possible actions as Counterproductive, Ineffective, Fairly Effective or Effective; there are three scenarios for each behaviour, shown as text, short videos or a mix. The test is not timed, and the guidance recommends allowing at least an hour. The score is reported as a percentile against a comparison group of applicants, and the pass mark is set for each job by the recruiter, so no single pass mark is published.
