Checked 29 September 2026. From the NPPE program pages, the Candidate Guide V19 (April 2026) and regulator pages read 29 September 2026. The second-camera rule started with the June 2026 administration. IST conversions are our arithmetic; Meazure does not publish which hours it offers to India.
Can you write the NPPE from India? The NPPE program answers directly: "With remote testing, the exam can be taken anywhere in the world, as long as the computer and internet requirements are met." There is a catch, and it comes first: you cannot register with the NPPE program itself. You register through a Canadian regulator, and most will only let you do that once you have an application or academic assessment under way. This guide covers that order of steps, the equipment rules (including the second camera that has been mandatory since the June 2026 administration), the exam-day timeline, and a converter that turns each Canadian window into IST with daylight saving handled. ProSyllabus is an independent study site. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Engineers Canada, APEGA, Meazure Learning or any provincial or territorial regulator; every rule below is quoted or summarised from their published pages, and your regulator decides every individual case.

Step zero: a regulator has to register you
The NPPE site says an application to your regulator "might be required" before you may take the exam, and that you do not need to pass the NPPE before starting the application. In practice the regulator's rule decides when you can sit it:
| Regulator | When you can register for the NPPE |
|---|---|
| PEO (Ontario) | After confirming academic eligibility, through the application portal; the NPPE must be completed before you submit the P.Eng. application |
| APEGA (Alberta) | Only after you have submitted a professional application |
| APEGS (Saskatchewan) | As an EIT/GIT, a licensee applicant with academics confirmed, or a temporary licensee transitioning |
| EGBC (British Columbia) | Once registered as an EGBC trainee, or after submitting a P.Eng., P.Geo., P.L.Eng. or P.L.Geo. application; it must be passed before professional registration |
| APEGNB (New Brunswick) | Once APEGNB confirms you meet the academic requirement |
| Engineers Nova Scotia | Must be registered as an EIT; 24 months of experience recommended first |
Sources: NPPE Who Takes the Exam and FAQs; PEO, APEGA, APEGS, EGBC, APEGNB and Engineers Nova Scotia NPPE pages. The P.Eng. route guide in this series covers the academic side for Indian degrees.
Our reading of these rules together: an engineer in India can clear the academic assessment and the NPPE before landing, as long as the chosen regulator has accepted the application or the academic step. The NPPE is not an immigration exam and passing it does not by itself let you use the title engineer; APEGA says so explicitly.
The windows, the deadlines and IST
The NPPE runs five times a year. Each sitting has a registration deadline, then a booking window in which Meazure Learning emails you to pick a day and time, then the three-day exam window. The 2-4 November 2026 session closed for registration on 18 September 2026, so the next one open is January 2027.
| Exam window (Mon-Wed) | NPPE registration deadline | APEGS deadline (Saskatchewan only) | Booking window |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-4 November 2026 | 18 September 2026 (passed) | 14 September 2026 (passed) | 2-18 October 2026 |
| 11-13 January 2027 | 27 November 2026 | 23 November 2026 | TBD |
| 22-24 March 2027 | 12 February 2027 | 8 February 2027 | TBD |
| 7-9 June 2027 | 23 April 2027 | 19 April 2027 | TBD |
| 23-25 August 2027 | 2 July 2027 | 28 June 2027 | TBD |
| 1-3 November 2027 | 24 September 2027 | 20 September 2027 | TBD |
Sources: NPPE Exam Dates page; APEGS NPPE page. APEGS says its deadlines "differ from those stated on the NPPE website" and its candidates must follow them; applications close at 4:30 CST on the deadline. From registration deadline to window is 38 to 52 days across these sessions (our count).
Ontario applicants register through PEO's own portal, and PEO prints its own periods and results dates, which do not match the NPPE page exactly: for November 2026 PEO's portal ran to 21 September 2026, three days after the NPPE deadline. We print both and do not reconcile them; an Ontario applicant should follow PEO's dates.
| Exam window | PEO registration portal open | PEO booking period | Results by (PEO) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-4 Nov 2026 | 24 Aug - 21 Sep 2026 | 2-18 Oct 2026 | 27 Nov 2026 |
| 11-13 Jan 2027 | 19 Oct - 27 Nov 2026 | To be announced | 12 Feb 2027 |

India does not change its clocks, and in 2026 western Canada stopped changing them too. British Columbia made its last change on 8 March 2026 and stays on UTC-7; Alberta stays on UTC-6 and Manitoba on daylight time (UTC-5) from November 2026, when their clocks will not go back; most of Saskatchewan was already on CST all year (provincial government pages, read 29 September 2026). Ontario and Atlantic Canada still go forward on the second Sunday of March and back on the first Sunday of November. The table below is our arithmetic from those rules.
| Window | Ontario clocks (our reading) | IST ahead of Ontario (Eastern) | IST ahead of Alberta | IST ahead of BC (Pacific) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2-4 Nov 2026 | Standard time (clocks went back on Sun 1 Nov 2026) | 10:30 | 11:30 | 12:30 |
| 11-13 Jan 2027 | Standard time | 10:30 | 11:30 | 12:30 |
| 22-24 Mar 2027 | Daylight time (clocks go forward on Sun 14 Mar 2027) | 9:30 | 11:30 | 12:30 |
| 7-9 Jun 2027 | Daylight time | 9:30 | 11:30 | 12:30 |
| 23-25 Aug 2027 | Daylight time | 9:30 | 11:30 | 12:30 |
| 1-3 Nov 2027 | Still daylight time (clocks go back on Sun 7 Nov 2027) | 9:30 | 11:30 | 12:30 |
Our arithmetic. Saskatchewan is 11:30 behind IST in every window, the same as Alberta now; Manitoba is 10:30 behind in every window. For Ontario the two November windows differ: in 2026 its clocks change the day before the window, in 2027 a few days after it. If a province changes its rule again, these figures change with it.
NPPE window to IST converter
Pick a published window, the day of it, a Canadian time zone and a time. The converter shows the same moment in India Standard Time, and the other way round. It applies Canada's daylight saving rule (second Sunday of March to first Sunday of November) only to Eastern, Atlantic and Newfoundland time. British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and, from November 2026, Manitoba keep one offset all year (provincial government pages, read 29 September 2026).
Our arithmetic, not an NPPE or Meazure tool. Meazure offers slots in the time zone you choose "based on availability"; which clock hours it offers to an India time zone is not published. Which time zone defines the edges of a window is not published either.
How to use this: the NPPE registration page says Meazure contacts virtually proctored candidates "regarding booking a time that will accommodate their time zone", and that slots are listed on a 24-hour clock. So when you book, choose India Standard Time as your zone and read the slot as IST. The converter is for checking a time on one of the published window days against Canadian time, for example a Canadian friend telling you what time they sat; it only covers dates inside those windows. A 09:00 Eastern slot in January is 19:30 IST the same day; in June it is 18:30 IST (our arithmetic).
The equipment rules
| Item | Required | Not allowed |
|---|---|---|
| Computer | Your own personal device; run the readiness check at least 24 hours before | Work or school computers and networks ("unpermitted") |
| Browser | Google Chrome (mandatory) plus Meazure's Guardian Secure Browser | Other browsers; pop-up blockers must be off |
| Internet | Wired preferred; Wi-Fi at least 10 Mbps | Wireless or mobile hotspots ("NOT permitted") |
| Webcam | A webcam you can move to pan the room | A phone as the main webcam |
| Second camera (since June 2026) | Smartphone or tablet on the same Wi-Fi, landscape, 0.7 to 1.0 m away, plugged in, showing your profile with hands and face | A laptop as the second camera; books as a stand |
| Screens | One monitor | A second monitor facing you |
| Software | A clean system | VPNs and virtual machines; AnyDesk, TeamViewer, RemotePC; Grammarly, Snipping Tool |
| ID | Government-issued photo ID with signature (e.g. passport) | No ID means no access to the exam |

The second camera, in the program's own terms
- Mandatory "effective as of the June 2026 administration", for exam security. APEGS and Engineers Nova Scotia carry the same notice.
- The program says a phone or tablet with a front-facing camera that can connect to a web browser "should be able to be used". You connect it by scanning a QR code; nothing is downloaded.
- It must stay connected for the whole exam. If it disconnects and cannot reconnect, "your exam may be terminated". Use Do Not Disturb and keep it charging.
- Stabilise it on a tripod or a sturdy household item such as a mug. Books are not permitted.

Exam day, step by step
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Before the day | Run the readiness check at least 24 hours before. The exam program itself cannot be downloaded until exam day. To see the interface first, the paid NPPE practice tests run on the same platform and include an examination tutorial; Meazure's FAQ has a short video tutorial. |
| Login | A 15-minute window to log in, or the exam is cancelled. Click the link once. |
| Waiting for the proctor | Connection may take up to 30 minutes. Do not log out and back in; the program compares it to leaving a plane before take-off. |
| Checks | ID shown, room panned with the webcam, second camera connected, candidate agreement signed digitally. |
| The exam | 2.5 hours, 110 questions, English and French switchable. One optional comfort break; the timer keeps running. |
| Problems | Report them to the proctor and Meazure the same day. Afterwards only security incidents, emergencies or exceptional circumstances are investigated. |
| After | A short survey. Results come later, through your regulator only. |

For a candidate in India, the practical risks are power and bandwidth. Our advice, not the program's: book a slot at an IST hour when your home line is least shared, have a power backup for the router and the second camera, and keep the phone you use for Meazure support calls separate from the one serving as the second camera if you can. The program allows your phone in the room, silenced, only for contacting support.
Two timing rules that do not agree
Booking email and results: the numbers differ by source
- Booking email. The NPPE site and the Candidate Guide say: if you have not received Meazure's booking email at least three weeks before the exam, contact Meazure. EGBC's FAQ says four weeks. Our reading: chase it at four weeks, whichever regulator you are with.
- Results. The Candidate Guide says approximately 2-3 weeks after the exam and before the next registration deadline; the NPPE Scoring page says at least a week before it. EGBC says approximately 3-4 weeks through its portal. Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba says within four weeks. The regulator releases the result, so its timing is the one that applies to you.

What we could not confirm
Meazure does not publish which clock hours it offers to a candidate booking in IST; slots are "based on availability". We found no statement that any country is blocked; the only published condition is meeting the computer and internet requirements. And no page we read says which time zone marks the start and end of a three-day window for a candidate outside Canada.
Can I write the NPPE from India?
Yes. The NPPE FAQ says the exam can be taken anywhere in the world if the computer and internet requirements are met. You must first be registered through a Canadian regulator.
Do I need to be in Canada to register?
The exam itself can be taken anywhere, and none of the NPPE pages we read asks for Canadian residence. Registration, though, depends on your regulator's eligibility rule: PEO after academic confirmation, APEGA after a professional application, EGBC as a trainee or after an application, APEGNB after academic confirmation, and so on. Check that rule with your regulator.
What is the second camera requirement?
From the June 2026 administration every candidate must use a smartphone or tablet as a second camera, on the same Wi-Fi, in landscape, 0.7 to 1.0 m away and plugged in. Laptops are not allowed as the second camera.
Can I use a mobile hotspot?
No. The system requirement page says wireless or mobile hotspots are not permitted. A wired connection is preferred; Wi-Fi should be at least 10 Mbps.
Can I use my office laptop?
No. Work and school computers and networks are unpermitted, and a rebooking fee may apply if the device cannot run the exam.
What time will my exam be in India?
You choose a slot through Meazure in your own time zone, based on availability. Choose India Standard Time when booking. Which hours are offered is not published.
What happens if I book the wrong time zone?
If you miss your slot because of it, the NPPE program says you will be charged a second exam fee if you are rebooked.
When is the next NPPE I can register for?
The 11-13 January 2027 window, registration deadline 27 November 2026 (APEGS: 23 November 2026). The 2-4 November 2026 window closed for registration on 18 September 2026.
