NPPE Exam Fee by Province 2026: What Each Canadian Regulator Charges

Checked 29 September 2026. Fees are set by each regulator and can change without notice (APEGA says so in terms). The Saskatchewan fee changed between September 2025 and January 2026, and the BC fee rose from $293 to $300 plus GST on 1 July 2026.

There is no single NPPE fee. The exam is the same everywhere, but you register and pay through the provincial or territorial regulator you are applying to, and each sets its own price and its own cancellation rules. Among the engineering regulators the published fees we could read run from $170 in Prince Edward Island to $315 in British Columbia ($300 plus GST, our arithmetic); Geoscientists Nova Scotia charges by where you write, up to $655.50 overseas (all Canadian dollars, per attempt). This guide lists every fee we could confirm, the tax note each regulator attaches, the refund and deferral rules, and the ways a candidate writing from India can end up paying twice. ProSyllabus is an independent study site. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Engineers Canada, APEGA, Meazure Learning or any provincial or territorial regulator; every rule below is quoted or summarised from their published pages, and your regulator decides every individual case.

All-in figures. Alberta is $250 plus 5% GST and British Columbia $300 plus 5% GST, shown as $262.50 and $315 (our arithmetic). Geoscientists Nova Scotia is shown at its overseas rate, the one that applies from India; it is $373.75 written in Nova Scotia.

Among the engineering regulators the spread is $145 between PEI and British Columbia (our subtraction, using the BC figure with GST). You cannot shop around, though: you register with the regulator whose licence you are applying for, and the fee comes with its rules. APEGA, for example, will only register you after you submit a professional application, while PEO requires the NPPE before you submit one.

Look up your regulator

NPPE fee lookup by province

Pick the regulator you are applying to. You pay the NPPE fee to that regulator, not to the NPPE program. Enter today's rupee rate from your bank if you want an INR figure; we do not pre-fill one because rates move.

Fees as published by each regulator and read on 29 September 2026. Any rupee figure is our arithmetic at the rate you type, before bank or card charges. Your regulator's invoice is the only figure that counts.

Saskatchewan: two different fees on APEGS documents

Where other pages get this wrong

APEGS charges $175.09 for the NPPE, inclusive of GST and administration fees, on its January 2026 form and its fees page.

Commonly published instead: An earlier APEGS NPPE application form, "Updated 2025-09-30", gives the fee as $262.50 inclusive of GST, and that figure still circulates.

The APEGS fees page lists the NPPE at $145 "excluding 15% Administration fee and 5% GST", which works out to $175.09 (our arithmetic: 145 × 1.15 × 1.05). The APEGS NPPE page says only that "the cost to take the NPPE has been adjusted". The later documents agree on $175.09, so that is the figure we print; confirm with APEGS before you pay.

Refunds, deferrals and cancellations

The NPPE Candidate Guide sets a baseline: before the registration deadline you can cancel for a refund or defer to another session; after it the fee is non-refundable. Deferrals can be requested up to the booking deadline only for a medical emergency or illness, a death in the family, a court appearance or military duty, with documents. The guide also says to contact your regulator, not Meazure Learning, and that "you will be subject to your regulator's deferral/cancellation policy". The regulators then tighten it in different ways.

RegulatorRule
NPPE Candidate Guide (baseline)Refund or defer before the registration deadline; after it non-refundable; documented deferral up to the booking deadline for listed emergencies
APEGAEmail before the registration deadline to reschedule or cancel; cannot reschedule or cancel after it
APEGSNo deferrals; refund only if cancelled before the Meazure booking deadline, less administration fee and taxes; extenuating circumstances case by case
EGBCDefer online before the application deadline only; after it, deferral only for a medical emergency with a doctor's note. Since January 2026, a session not booked in the booking window forfeits the fee and you must re-register
PGO and ASET (through APEGA)PGO: refunds after the registration deadline may not be given. ASET: the exam fee is non-refundable
Engineers Nova ScotiaNo-fee cancellation only before the Meazure booking; once booked no cancel, defer, refund or transfer
APEGNBReschedule or cancel before the registration deadline; non-refundable after it
PEGNLOnce booked, deferrals not normally permitted; case by case for extenuating circumstances
PEONot booking with Meazure is recorded as "Withdrawal" (not a fail) and the payment is forfeited

How candidates end up paying twice

The traps that cost a second fee

  • Wrong time zone. Meazure lists slots on a 24-hour clock in the time zone you choose. The NPPE program says booking the wrong time zone and missing your slot "will result in a second exam fee charge if you are rebooked". From India, check that the booking shows India Standard Time.
  • A work or school computer. The Candidate Guide says work and school computers and networks are "unpermitted" and that you "may be subject to an additional fee for a rebooking" if the device cannot download the exam program. PEO adds that an equipment failure judged to be yours is coded "Withdrawal" and you pay again.
  • A virtual machine or a restricted program such as Grammarly or Snipping Tool: the session is terminated and "you will not be rebooked".
  • Not booking in time. PEO codes an unbooked session "Withdrawal" and keeps the fee; EGBC, since January 2026, forfeits the fee and requires you to re-register.

For a candidate in India the second-fee risk is mostly about the time zone, the computer and the booking window. The guide to writing the NPPE from India in this series has a converter from the Canadian windows to IST, with each province's current clock rule handled, and the full equipment checklist.

Other licensing costs, for context

The NPPE fee is a small part of what licensure costs. We list only what the regulator pages we read print; nothing here is a full budget.

What we could not find

We could not read a current NPPE fee for NAPEG (Northwest Territories and Nunavut), whose 2026 NPPE form link returned an error, or Engineers Yukon. We could not tell whether tax is added to the PEI and ASET figures, which their pages print without a tax note. If your regulator is one of these, its own fee page is the only source.

How much does the NPPE cost?

It depends on the regulator. Among engineering regulators, from $170 (Engineers PEI) to $300 plus GST at EGBC, about $315 (our arithmetic). APEGA charges $250 plus GST, APEGS $175.09 and PEO $242.84. Geoscientists Nova Scotia charges $373.75 to $655.50 depending on where you write.

Who do I pay the NPPE fee to?

To your provincial or territorial regulator, through its portal or form. PGO (Ontario geoscientists) and ASET (Alberta technologists) candidates are registered through APEGA; PGO says payment is made in myAPEGA. Meazure Learning, the proctoring company, does not take the registration fee.

Is the NPPE fee per attempt?

Yes. Each registration is a new fee. APEGS says candidates must re-apply for later sessions and pay all associated fees.

Can I get a refund if I cannot sit the exam?

Usually only before the registration deadline. After it the fee is generally non-refundable, with documented deferral for listed emergencies, and several regulators are stricter. Check your regulator's rule.

Why does the Saskatchewan fee differ between sources?

An APEGS form updated 30 September 2025 said $262.50 including GST. The January 2026 form and the fees page say $175.09 including GST and administration. APEGS says the cost has been adjusted. We print $175.09.

Do I pay extra to write the NPPE from India?

At the engineering regulators we read, no: none prints an NPPE surcharge for writing abroad, and PEO's $180 fee for writing outside Canada applies to technical exams, not the NPPE. Geoscientists Nova Scotia is the exception: $655.50 written overseas against $517.50 elsewhere in Canada. A second fee can also apply if you book the wrong time zone and miss your slot.

I passed a professional practice exam in another province. Do I pay again?

PEO's fee schedule says applicants licensed in another Canadian province may be exempt. APEGA says passing a professional practice exam other than the NPPE elsewhere does not exempt you. Ask your regulator.

What is the NPPE fee in PEI, the territories or for PGO and ASET?

Engineers PEI lists $170. PGO charges $262.50 including GST and ASET lists $262.50, both paid through APEGA. For NAPEG (the territories) and Engineers Yukon we could not read a current fee on 29 September 2026.
