NEET PG Rank vs Branch and College: MCC 2025 Round 1 Closing Ranks

Checked 30 September 2026. High. These are last year's Round 1 figures. The 2026 seat matrix, the 2026 candidate pool and later rounds all change them. Use them to shortlist, never as a promise.

In MCC's 2025 Round 1, the last All India quota rank allotted an Open seat in MD Radio-diagnosis anywhere in India was 2,920; in MD General Medicine it was 3,822, in MS General Surgery 11,507 and in MD Anaesthesiology 19,028. Those figures are our tabulation of MCC's final Round 1 result for PG counselling 2025, published on 22 November 2025, and they are the most useful answer to "what can my rank get" that official data supports. This guide gives the course table for every category, the deemed and DNB pools, and a finder that lists every institute and course a rank reached in that round. ProSyllabus is an independent study site. It is not part of NBEMS (the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences), the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of DGHS, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare or the National Medical Commission. Every rule here is quoted or summarised from their bulletins and notices, and they decide every case.

Where other pages get this wrong

A closing rank is the last rank allotted in one round, for one seat type. It is not a cut-off, and Round 1 is only the first of four rounds.

Commonly published instead: Single "closing rank" lists with no round, category or quota named, often compiled from later rounds or from the previous year without saying so.

In 2025 MCC ran Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and a stray vacancy round, and later rounds went deeper as seats were vacated. Every figure on this page says which round, quota and category it comes from.

How we built these numbers

MCC publishes each round's result as a PDF listing every allotment: a serial number, the rank, the allotted quota, the institute, the course, the allotted category and the candidate category. The Round 1 file for 2025 runs to 1,301 pages. We parsed it, checked sample pages against the PDF (for example, the last Open AIQ rank in MD Dermatology is 2,725 in both), and counted allotments and the last rank for each combination of quota, institute, course and allotted category.

The published file identifies candidates by roll number, and we deliberately use none of that. What this page carries is counts and rank figures per course and per institute, never a row about a person. The rank MCC prints is the rank used for this counselling; NBEMS issues each qualified candidate a NEET-PG rank, an All India 50% quota rank and an AIQ category rank (NBEMS notice of 27 August 2025).

Read every figure with these limits

  • Round 1 only. Round 2, Round 3 and the stray round went deeper; their result files exist but are not tabulated here.
  • 2025 ranks come from an 800-mark paper. Compare ranks, not scores, with 2026.
  • The "last rank" for a course is the deepest rank allotted anywhere in India in that seat type. A particular college may have closed far earlier.
  • "Best rank" is where toppers went, not a threshold.
  • Institute names are as MCC printed them in the result. State is read from the address MCC prints.

All India quota: last Round 1 rank by course and allotted category

The table lists each course with at least 30 AIQ allotments in Round 1, ordered by the Open-seat last rank. A reserved-category candidate can be allotted an Open seat on merit, so compare your rank with both the Open column and your own category's column.

Our tabulation of MCC's final Round 1 result, PG 2025 (22.11.2025). A longer bar means the course reached deeper ranks in Round 1.

Three things stand out. First, the clinical order is steep: dermatology, radiology and general medicine all closed for Open seats before rank 4,000 in Round 1, while pre- and para-clinical courses such as pathology, microbiology and physiology reached ranks from about 36,000 to over 1,00,000. Second, category columns are not in a simple order. ST seats in some courses went deeper than SC seats, and EWS seats sometimes closed near the OBC figure, because each category has its own number of seats in each course. Third, allotment counts matter. Where a course had few allotments, one college's seat can make the national last rank look far deeper than the typical seat.

Deemed universities: paid seats

Deemed universities fill 100% of their PG seats through MCC, with no domicile condition. MCC labels them the paid seat quota. Fees are the college's, and MCC's own bulletin tells candidates to confirm them before choosing, because MCC takes no responsibility for fee structures. The table shows Round 1 Open-seat figures for courses with at least 10 allotments.

Deemed seats went much deeper than government AIQ seats for the same course: MD Radio-diagnosis reached rank 65,193 on deemed paid seats against 2,920 on AIQ Open seats in Round 1. The difference is cost, not quality alone: many candidates with good ranks do not choose deemed seats because of the fees.

DNB quota: course level

DNB, DrNB (direct 6-year) and NBEMS Diploma seats are counselled by MCC at 100% all-India. They are spread over many hospitals, so this table gives the course-level last rank across all hospitals together, for courses with at least 30 Round 1 allotments. The finder below uses the same course-level figures for DNB.

A dash means no Round 1 allotment in that category for that course. Some DNB categories show a reserved last rank above the Open figure; with small numbers of reserved seats per course, that happens.

Rank to branch and college finder (MCC Round 1, 2025)

Enter a rank and your category. The finder lists every institute and course where MCC's 2025 Round 1 allotment went down to that rank or beyond, in the seat categories open to you (Open seats, plus your own category's seats). It is last year's first round only: later rounds went deeper, and 2026 will differ.

Source: MCC final result, Round 1, PG Counselling 2025 (22.11.2025), tabulated by ProSyllabus. "Last rank" is the highest rank allotted in that pool, institute, course and allotted category in Round 1. Institute names and states are as MCC prints them in the result (state read from the address). PwD seats and the DU, IP University, BHU, AMU, NRI and minority quotas are not included. No candidate is identified: only counts and ranks per institute and course.

Seat totals: what is and is not known

Our sum of the total-seats column in MCC's 2025 All India quota seat matrix is about 12,678 seats across 3,561 course-institute rows. That is our own regex sum of a long PDF, so a wrapped row could be missed; treat it as approximate. It covers the AIQ matrix only: MCC also publishes separate matrices for DNB, deemed and central-institution seats, and on 19 November 2025 it added 239 deemed seats and withdrew 235 DNB seats (186 government and 49 private).

Our own notice board had carried a figure of 42,077 PG seats, citing Careers360. We could not verify it against any official document, and it measures something different from the AIQ matrix. No official all-India total across AIQ, state, DNB and deemed seats was found. We print both numbers and the gap between them rather than pick one.

How to use last year's ranks for 2026

The number that carries across years is the rank, not the score. The 2026 paper was out of 720 and about 2.66 lakh candidates appeared; 2025 was out of 800. A rank of 15,000 means roughly the same place in the queue in both years if the candidate pool is of similar size, while a score of 450 means different things on the two papers.

Three adjustments are worth making in your head. Seats change every year, so a course whose seat count rose will go deeper, and one whose seats fell will close earlier; check the 2026 matrix when MCC publishes it. Round 1 is conservative: many candidates take a seat in Round 1 and upgrade later, which frees seats for others. And your own choice list matters as much as your rank, because allotment follows the order of choices you lock.

Practise it, don't just read it

Your rank next year depends on the marks you add now. Short topic quizzes are one way to find the gaps.

Three NEET PG quizzes are live on ProSyllabus today: Brachial Plexus Lesions, Gram Positive Cocci and the National Immunization Schedule. That is a small library, and it is not a full mock of the 180-question paper.

Nothing here is legal or admission advice. For your own case, write to NBEMS through its communication portal or call its helpline (011-45593000, as printed in the 24 September 2026 result notice), and for counselling read the MCC bulletin for your round.

What NEET PG rank is needed for radiology?

In MCC's 2025 Round 1, the last All India quota Open seat in MD Radio-diagnosis went to rank 2,920 (our tabulation of MCC's result). Later rounds and other quotas differ, and 2026 will differ again.

What rank got MD General Medicine in NEET PG 2025?

In Round 1, 2025, the last AIQ Open seat in MD General Medicine went to rank 3,822; the last OBC seat to 6,301, SC to 17,908, ST to 33,062 and EWS to 7,655 (our tabulation).

Are these closing ranks official?

The ranks are from MCC's official Round 1 result PDF. The tables and the finder are our tabulation of it; MCC does not publish closing ranks by course.

Do later rounds go deeper than Round 1?

Usually, because candidates upgrade and vacate seats. MCC ran four rounds in 2025: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and the stray vacancy round.

How many NEET PG seats are there?

No official all-India total across all pools was found. Our sum of MCC's 2025 AIQ seat matrix is about 12,678 seats; a widely repeated 42,077 figure is reported by Careers360 and not verified.

Is the MCC result rank the NEET PG rank?

NBEMS issues a NEET-PG rank, an All India 50% quota rank and an AIQ category rank. MCC's result prints one rank column for the AIQ counselling it runs.
