Checked 30 September 2026. Medium. The 2026 conditions are fixed by the 2026 bulletin. The internship cut-off has changed every year and was revised mid-cycle in 2022 and 2023, so the 2027 date will come from the 2027 bulletin or a notice. The NMC PwBD guidelines of 16 Sep 2026 are new.
To be eligible for NEET-PG 2026 you needed a recognised MBBS, a permanent or provisional registration, and your internship completed on or before 30 September 2026; the bulletin says requests from candidates completing internship after that date "shall be summarily rejected". That date is not a fixed rule. It was 31 July in 2025, 30 June in 2023 and 31 July in 2022, and it was moved after the bulletin in two of those years. This guide sets out each eligibility condition as NBEMS and MCC print it, with the dates by year and the rules for foreign graduates, OCI and NRI candidates and candidates with disabilities. ProSyllabus is an independent study site. It is not part of NBEMS (the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences), the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of DGHS, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare or the National Medical Commission. Every rule here is quoted or summarised from their bulletins and notices, and they decide every case.

Where other pages get this wrong
The NEET-PG 2026 internship cut-off is 30 September 2026.
Commonly published instead: Pages carried forward from 2025 say 31 July 2026, and some say internship must be done "by March 31 of the exam year". Our own exam record and notice board carried both errors.
The 2026 bulletin and the NBEMS tentative schedule of 22 January 2026 both give 30.09.2026. 31 July was the 2025 date. March 31 was the first date set for 2023, which was moved to 30 June before the exam.
The four conditions
| Condition | What the 2026 bulletin requires | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Degree | An MBBS degree or provisional MBBS pass certificate recognised under the NMC Act, 2019 (and the repealed IMC Act, 1956) | Unrecognised qualifications are "summarily rejected" |
| Registration | A permanent or provisional registration with the NMC or a State Medical Council | The erstwhile MCI registration also counts |
| Internship | The 12-month compulsory rotating resident internship completed on or before 30-09-2026 | The dates you enter in the form are checked later |
| Foreign medical graduates | Indian citizens or OCI cardholders with a medical degree from outside India must have qualified the FMGE (Screening Test Regulations, 2002), be registered, and complete internship by 30-09-2026 | Foreign nationals follow separate rules: MHA security clearance where required, and NMC temporary registration for the course |
Eligibility is provisional at every stage. The bulletin says the admit card confers no right to admission and that candidature can be cancelled at any point if a condition turns out not to be met. The practical checks happen at counselling and at the college, when original documents are seen. A candidate who sat the exam, qualified and got a rank can still lose the seat if the internship certificate shows a date after the cut-off.
The internship cut-off, year by year
The cut-off is set each year by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on the National Medical Commission's recommendation and printed in the bulletin. Twice in the years we checked, NBEMS changed it after applications had opened.
| Cycle | Cut-off | How it was set | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 31.07.2022 (extended) | MoHFW letter F. No. U-11011/06/2021-MEC of 15.02.2022; NBEMS notice of 16.02.2022 | N28 |
| 2023 | 31.03.2023, then 30.06.2023 | NMC letter of 13.12.2022 and MoHFW letters set 31 March; an MoHFW email of 13.01.2023 revised it; NBEMS notice of 13.01.2023 | N26 |
| 2024 | not confirmed | We did not find the 2024 date in an NBEMS document we read | — |
| 2025 | 31.07.2025 | NEET-PG 2025 bulletin | IB25 |
| 2026 | 30.09.2026 | NEET-PG 2026 bulletin and the NBEMS tentative schedule of 22.01.2026 | IB26, N11 |
The pattern is that the cut-off sits roughly a month after the exam, and it moves when the exam date moves. In 2026 the exam was on 30 August and the cut-off a month later. The same schedule notice set NEET-MDS 2026 on 2 May 2026 with an internship cut-off of 31 May 2026. For 2027, nothing had been notified on 30 September 2026. Treat any 2027 internship date you see before the 2027 bulletin as a guess.
Internship date and eligibility checker
Enter the date your 12-month compulsory rotating internship ends (or ended) and answer three questions. The checker compares it with the 2026 cut-off and with every earlier cut-off we could confirm from an NBEMS document.
Cut-offs: 2022 extended to 31.07.2022 (N28); 2023 revised to 30.06.2023 (N26); 2025 31.07.2025 (IB25); 2026 30.09.2026 (IB26, N11). We did not confirm the 2024 date from an NBEMS document, so it is not tested.
Foreign medical graduates
An Indian citizen or an OCI cardholder with a primary medical qualification from outside India must have qualified the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination, conducted by NBEMS under the Screening Test Regulations, 2002, before they can sit NEET-PG. They must also be registered with the NMC or a State Medical Council and complete their internship by the same cut-off. In the tie-breaks, FMGE marks take the place of the MBBS aggregate percentage for foreign graduates. Foreign nationals (not OCI) follow separate rules in the bulletin: where the Ministry of Home Affairs requires it, security clearance must be obtained before applying, and the NMC may grant temporary registration limited to the course and college, subject to registration in their own country and a no-objection certificate from that country's medical council.
OCI and NRI candidates
The application form asks you to choose one of four nationalities: Indian, Non-Resident Indian, Overseas Citizen of India or Non-OCI Foreign National. An Indian citizen who is an NRI chooses NRI; a foreign national who holds an OCI card chooses OCI.
Following the Supreme Court's order of 3 February 2023 in Anushka Rengunthwar and Others v. Union of India, OCI cardholders are treated at par with Indian citizens for UR (General) category seats and are also eligible for NRI seats, for counselling conducted by MCC. They do not get reserved-category seats. NRI candidates are eligible for both NRI seats and Indian national seats on merit.
For NRI seats, MCC's notice of 27 May 2026 applies the criteria from Anshul Tomar v. State of M.P. (WP 13393 of 2007). A parent, or a first-degree relative, who is an NRI ordinarily residing abroad qualifies. A wider circle of blood relatives (uncles and aunts on either side, grandparents, first cousins) can also sponsor, but only if they are NRIs living abroad and have actually looked after the candidate as guardian, backed by an affidavit. MCC says it will ask for legal proof, under the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890, that the sponsor is the candidate's bona fide guardian.
| Nationality | MCC seats open | State quota |
|---|---|---|
| Indian | All, with central reservation by category | By the state's own domicile and reservation rules |
| OCI cardholder | UR (General) and NRI seats; no reservation | The state's own rules; the bulletin's at-par rule speaks of MCC counselling |
| NRI | NRI seats and Indian national seats on merit; NRI status tested on the Anshul Tomar criteria | The state's own rules |
| Non-OCI foreign national | As the bulletin and MCC rules provide (security clearance and NMC temporary registration conditions apply) | The state's own rules |
Candidates with benchmark disabilities (PwBD)
PwBD candidates have a 5% horizontal reservation, and their disability must be certified at one of 33 designated centres listed in the bulletin; MCC's bulletin asks for the online certificate from those centres. The qualifying cut-off for General-PwBD in 2026 is the 45th percentile (244 out of 720); SC, ST and OBC PwBD candidates share the 40th-percentile cut-off (226).
Two 2026 changes are new. On 16 September 2026 the National Medical Commission issued final guidelines for assessing persons with benchmark disabilities for admission to PG medical courses, and on 29 September 2026 NBEMS said it had adopted them and mapped its own courses to them. MCC's notice of 28 September 2026 then set the Round 1 assessment dates.

We have not quoted the NMC guidelines themselves: the copy MCC posted is a scanned document, and we do not summarise text we have not been able to read in full. Read it on the MCC site before your assessment.
Other conditions people miss
Test-state choice. For 2026, test cities were not allotted first-come-first-served. Candidates chose three test states, the first being the state of their correspondence address and the other two neighbouring states, and neither the address nor the states could be edited after submission (NBEMS advisory of 1 July 2026). A wrong address therefore fixed the wrong test region.
Keep your mobile number and email working. The 2025 MCC bulletin says OTPs and similar messages are sent only to the registered mobile number and email address, so a lapsed number can lock you out during choice filling.
The aggregate you declare. Your MBBS aggregate percentage is the third tie-breaker. The 2026 result notice says a false entry of the aggregate cancels candidature, so enter it from your mark sheets, not from memory.
Validity. The NEET-PG 2026 result is valid for the 2026-27 admission session only. It is not a licence to practise and does not carry over.
Nothing here is legal or admission advice. For your own case, write to NBEMS through its communication portal or call its helpline (011-45593000, as printed in the 24 September 2026 result notice), and for counselling read the MCC bulletin for your round.
