Preparing for a Kurukshetra University PG entrance is simpler than most competitive tests, because KUK tells you almost everything: the paper is 50 questions of 2 marks in one hour, at the level of your degree, with no negative marking, and each department publishes a syllabus for its paper — some with the exact number of questions per topic. What KUK does not publish is the question booklets; it posts answer keys instead. This guide turns those official materials into a plan: how to read your syllabus, how to use the keys, and how many hours to give each part.

What the pattern means for preparation
Four rules that follow from KUK's paper
- Attempt every question. With no negative marking, a blank is always worse than a guess. Leave the last two minutes to fill every remaining bubble.
- Speed matters more than depth. 72 seconds a question is enough to recall a fact or do a two-step calculation, not to work out a long problem.
- Revise at degree level. The Handbook sets the paper "of the level of qualifying examination": your degree sets the standard, and your programme's published entrance syllabus decides what to study.
- Weight your time by the syllabus. Where a department prints questions per topic, spend your hours in that proportion.
Papers with an extra step
- M.Pharmacy: valid GPAT scorers are admitted first; the entrance test fills the remaining seats.
- B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed.: you must qualify the Physical Efficiency Test (30 Jun and 1 Jul in 2026) before the written test counts — train for it alongside the paper.
- M.A. Music: the written test is 80% of merit and a 20-minute performance practical is 20% (6–8 Jul in 2026).
- MBA: the test is 80%; a group discussion and interview add 10% each.

The MCA split is a good example of why the syllabus matters. A candidate who spends most of their time on mathematics — the usual instinct for an MCA test — is preparing for 10 of the 50 questions. Computer awareness is 25, half the paper. The M.Com split makes the opposite point: no single topic is more than 4 questions, so there is no shortcut; you need all fourteen at a basic level.

For 2026-27 the IUMS Syllabus tab carried a separate entrance syllabus for each of these papers. M.A.: Hindi, English, Panjabi, Sanskrit, Economics, History, Political Science, Defence Studies, Public Administration, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Women's Studies, Yoga, Music, Fine Arts, Ancient Indian History, Education, and the JMC / M.Sc. Mass Communication paper. M.Sc.: Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Forensic Science, Environmental Science, Electronics, Geography, Applied Geology, Home Science, Printing, and Graphics & Animation. Others: M.Com, MBA, MCA / M.Sc. CS, MFA, MSW, M.Lib., MHM&CT / MTTM, M.Pharmacy, M.P.Ed., B.P.Ed., LL.M. and the Special Education programmes. Download yours as soon as the 2027-28 set appears, and compare it with the 2026-27 file — a changed unit is a changed question.
For MBA, the four sections are almost equal (12–13 questions each), so no section can be ignored. General awareness is the one you cannot cram in the last month: twelve questions on current affairs and business reward reading a newspaper every day from the spring. English comprehension and logical reasoning improve fastest with timed practice, and management aptitude with data interpretation sets done against the clock. Remember that the test is only 80% of MBA merit; the group discussion and interview on 6–7 July 2026 carried the other 20%.
Using the answer keys
KUK posts each answer key on the day of the test and revised keys after objections; in 2026 keys appeared for more than 25 papers between 24 June and 8 July, including M.Com, MBA, MCA, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, Biotechnology, M.A. History, Political Science, English and Psychology, LL.B. and LL.M. Keys without questions are of limited use on their own — but candidates are allowed to take the question booklet home, so a senior's booklet plus the official key is a real past paper. Ask seniors in your department for last year's booklet, and pair it with the key for that year before the portal replaces it: the IUMS feed keeps only the current cycle.

The last two weeks
Routine for the fortnight before your paper
- Take a full 60-minute paper every other day at the same time of day as your slot (10:00 am, 12:30 pm or 3:30 pm).
- In each paper, answer the questions you know first, mark the rest, and come back — never leave a bubble empty at the end.
- If you have applied for two programmes, check the timetable for clashes and plan travel for both days.
- Keep your certificates for weightage and category ready: the First List came five days after the last test in 2026, and document verification in the department starts at once.
Practise it, don't just read it
