Checked 25 September 2026. Intake from Table 10 of the Admission Policy 2026; fees from the same policy (fee tables) and Notification No. 14 of 2026. Several fee figures conflict inside the university's own documents; both are shown.
KUET fills seats not only at the Main Campus in Hazratbal but at the South Campus (Anantnag), the North Campus (Baramulla) and a dozen affiliated colleges that run University of Kashmir PG programmes. Campus or college preference is entered in the application and is what the first selection lists use; the policy lets it be changed during the counselling or mop-up round, but once you are admitted "shifting/migration from campuses to University … is not provided under rules". This guide lists the 2026 intakes, then the fees — which are low on general seats and high on self-finance and NRI seats.
Where other pages get this wrong
The KUET application fee is ₹900 for one programme plus ₹250 for each additional programme, paid online, with no category concession stated.
Commonly published instead: "KUET application fee ₹950 for General, reduced for SC/ST, RBA and PwD" or "₹750 for one programme, payable by demand draft".
Notification No. 14 of 2026: ₹400 application fee (including ₹150 IT fee) plus ₹500 entrance fee, i.e. ₹900, and ₹250 for each subsequent programme, online only. Admission Notification No. 08 of 2025 (Step-7) printed the same ₹400 + ₹500 = ₹900 and ₹250.

Competition: examinees per seat
Our arithmetic: examinee slots in Final Centre Notice No. 1 divided by the Main-Campus 2-year intake. Programmes with other campuses have more seats than shown, and a candidate may be counted in several programmes, so this overstates competition.
The life-science programmes are the most crowded: Zoology had 919 examinee slots for 35 Main-Campus seats, plus 16 at GDC Sopore. History and Economics, with 53 Main-Campus seats each, were far less contested. Use the seat-split tool in the reservation guide in this series to see how a programme's seats divide.

Two points about the campuses. The South Campus (Anantnag) and North Campus (Baramulla) carry large intakes in English, Urdu, Education, Mathematics and MCA, and their selection lists come out after the Main Campus List I — in 2026 the university's update of 13 August scheduled the offsite-campus and college lists for 21 August. And the affiliated colleges (GDC Anantnag, GDC Sopore, GDC Baramulla, SSM College Pattan, IITM Hyderpora, Islamia College and the law colleges) fill University of Kashmir PG seats through the same KUET merit, so listing them as preferences can matter for a candidate just below the Main-Campus closing point.
Fees

Admission Policy 2026, fee tables (Parts A + B + C).
| Self-finance band (whole course, on top of normal fees) | 2-year | 1-year |
|---|---|---|
| M.Pharm, Biotechnology, MBA | ₹2,00,000 | ₹1,00,000 |
| Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry, Food Tech, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, IT, MCA and others | ₹1,50,000 | ₹75,000 |
| Mass Comm, Applied Geology, Geoinformatics, M.Com, LL.M. | ₹1,00,000 | ₹50,000 |
| Mathematics, Statistics, Psychology, Electronics, LL.B., M.Ed. | ₹80,000 | ₹40,000 |
| Arts and social sciences (English, History, Economics, Political Science, Education, Urdu and others) | ₹50,000 | ₹25,000 |
| Gender Studies · Persian, Sanskrit, Hindi | ₹35,000 · ₹20,000 | ₹17,500 · ₹10,000 |
Admission Policy 2026. NRI/NRI-sponsored seats cost exactly double the self-finance figure. The instalments conflict — the fee table says 50% in Semester 1 and 50% in Semester 3, the policy text 50/25/25 — and Geography sits in the ₹50,000 band in 2026 but the ₹80,000 band in the Course Fee 2025 sheet that the admission page still links as "Fee and Other Charges".
What a seat really costs
For a Kashmir-Division student on a general seat, a 2-year M.A. costs about ₹20,000 in admission fees over two years (₹9,998 a year), and an M.Sc. or M.Com about ₹21,500 — among the lowest PG fees anywhere. The picture changes on a self-finance seat: the same M.Sc. Botany adds ₹1,50,000 for the course, and an MBA ₹2,00,000. An NRI seat doubles those figures. Since self-finance seats go on KUET merit among those who sat the test in that subject, the few extra marks that separate a general seat from a self-finance one are worth, quite literally, lakhs of rupees.
Refunds
| When you withdraw | Refund |

| More than 30 days after | Nil |
Admission Policy 2026, following the UGC 2024-25 refund policy.
Practise it, don't just read it
The cost of a weak score is concrete here: 2-year Botany on a general seat is about ₹21,490 in fees over two years (two years of the ₹10,745 annual fee), but ₹1,71,490 on a self-finance seat (₹1,50,000 more). A few more marks in the entrance decide which of the two you pay.
The ProSyllabus KUET library has topic quizzes for English, Commerce, Economics, History and Botany — the first one is free.
