KUET 2027: Expected Timeline, Application Steps and a Study Plan

Checked 29 September 2026. Nothing for 2027 had been announced on 25 September 2026. Every 2027 date here is a pattern from 2025 and 2026, not a forecast.

The 2026 University of Kashmir PG admission closes on 30 September 2026, after a final spot counselling on 28 September. The 2027 cycle has not been announced, but two years of documents show its likely shape: a notification at the end of May or start of June, forms through June, tests at the Main Campus in the second half of July, and selection lists from August. Both years also ran later than the published plan. This guide lays out the two cycles, the application steps and a plan.

Where other pages get this wrong

The KUET-2026 PG application ran from 2 June to 30 June 2026, extended in stages to 19 July — not to 31 August.

Commonly published instead: "Last date for registration for 2-year and 1-year Masters: 31 Aug 2026."

Notification No. 14 of 2026 opened forms on 2 June with a last date of 30 June; notices extended it to 9 July, then 10 July, reopened the portal on 14 July, and finally to 19 July, 1 p.m. The 2025 window was 5 June to 4 July.

Our count from the Admission Policy 2026 schedule and the notices that followed.

Reading this for 2027. Expect a notification around the end of May, a June application window that may well be extended, and tests from mid-to-late July. The pattern that matters most is the slippage: in 2026 the whole process ended a month after the planned closure. Keep your documents ready early — the eligibility deadline, not the test, is where final-year students fall out.

After the test: lists, formalities and counselling

The admission rounds move fast, and each has its own deadline. The general merit list is published with one day for complaints; Selection List I follows, with a few days for admission formalities (14–20 August in 2026). Under the Admission Policy, a selected candidate who does not complete formalities "shall forfeit right to admission in subsequent lists till candidates are available". Then come self-finance and NRI lists, List II and the offsite-campus lists, and online counselling for candidates below the last selected score — which in 2026 was compulsory in effect: those who skipped it "shall not be considered for subsequent lists, even if having higher merit". Physical counselling for stray vacancies and a final spot round close the session.

How to apply

  1. Watch the Admission tab of uok.edu.in (also kashmiruniversity.net); forms run on egov.uok.edu.in. No separate admissions website is notified.
  2. Choose your programmes and campus preference — the preference drives the first lists and can be changed only in the counselling or mop-up round.
  3. If you are eligible under more than one reserved category, pick one per programme — the policy calls the choice "final, and unchangeable". Candidates from outside the Kashmir Division apply under OSJ, a separate supernumerary route rather than a reserved category.
  4. Pay online: ₹900 for the first programme and ₹250 for each additional one.
  5. Download the admit card when released (from 16 July in 2026) and check the date sheet for your paper.
  6. After the test, check the answer key and e-mail any complaint within a working day.
  7. Update your qualifying marks by the eligibility deadline if your result was awaited.

A plan

Plan your hours to a target KUET date

Choose your likely exam day and how many hours a week you can study. The planner counts the weeks left from today and splits your total hours across the paper.

The split is our suggestion. The paper is your UG subject, so the syllabus units take most of the time; the 2025 papers are the only official practice; and a 1-year applicant needs time for the extra units behind the additional 20 questions (60 common plus 20, per the Admission Policy and the 2026 revised date sheet) — a 2-year-only applicant should fold that slice back into the syllabus. The dates are illustrative targets in mid-July to early August, where the 2025 and 2026 tests fell.

Practise it, don't just read it

On the general-course lists, merit is the entrance score and graduation marks only break ties, so preparation is the whole game. Work through the 2025 paper for your subject in 70 minutes first, then use topic quizzes on the units where you lost marks.
