Checked 29 September 2026. From WBJEEB's Health Aptitude syllabus (posted April 2026) and the JENPAS(UG)-2026 bulletin. The 2027 bulletin may revise it; no past Health Aptitude paper is public, so the unit weights are not known.
In 2026 WBJEEB replaced the 20-mark Logical Reasoning section of JENPAS(UG) Paper-I with Health Aptitude: 20 single-answer questions, one mark each, with the same −¼ for a wrong answer. It is the only Paper-I section that is not a school subject, and its syllabus came out in April 2026, after applications had opened. For a 2027 candidate it is also the section with the least published material. This guide sets out the official syllabus unit by unit, marks the parts Class 11–12 Biology already covers, and gives a six-week plan and a checklist.
WBJEEB Health Aptitude syllabus; JENPAS(UG)-2026 bulletin.
The official syllabus, unit by unit
| Unit | Title in the syllabus | What it lists | Sub-topics listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hygiene and Sanitation | Personal hygiene; public sanitation and waste management; disease prevention | 3 |
| 2 | Common Diseases | Communicable diseases; non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension; treatment protocols | 3 |
| 3 | Healthcare Systems and Services | Infrastructure (hospitals, clinics, PHCs); first aid, basic life support and home nursing; vaccination and national schedules; health awareness | 4 |
| 4 | National Health Policies and Programs | Government initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat; legal and administrative frameworks for public health | 2 |
| 5 | Human Anatomy and Physiology | Structure and function of body systems; skeletal, muscular, respiratory, circulatory, digestive and nervous systems; changes with exercise and ageing | 3 |
| 6 | Nutrition and Dietetics | Macro- and micronutrients; balanced diet, malnutrition and deficiency diseases such as vitamin A deficiency and anaemia; needs by age group and weight control | 3 |
| 7 | Mental Health | Psychological well-being and stress management | 1 |
| 8 | Professional Ethics and Aptitude | Qualities of a healthcare professional (empathy, responsibility, efficiency) and basic patient rights | 1 |
| 9 | Others / Miscellaneous | Telemedicine and telehealth; types of disaster and their management | 2 |
Our count of the bullet points under each unit. This is the length of the syllabus, not the number of exam questions — WBJEEB has not published a unit-wise weightage.
Two warnings about using that chart. First, a long unit is not necessarily a heavy one in the exam: WBJEEB publishes no weightage, and the only Health Aptitude paper so far is 2026's, which is not public as a question paper. Second, the syllabus is written in broad headings ("Treatment Protocols: basic understanding of treatment and patient care"). It gives no textbook. Expect general-awareness-level questions rather than clinical depth — but that expectation is ours, not the Board's.
Where your Biology already counts
| Health Aptitude unit | Overlap with Class 11–12 Biology | What to add |
|---|---|---|
| Human Anatomy and Physiology | High — body systems are core Class 11 human physiology | Effects of exercise and ageing on each system |
| Common Diseases | Medium — Class 12 "Human Health and Disease" | Transmission routes, diabetes and hypertension basics, simple care |
| Nutrition and Dietetics | Medium — biomolecules and digestion | Deficiency diseases, balanced diet, needs by age |
| Hygiene and Sanitation | Low | Personal hygiene practice, waste management, germ spread |
| Healthcare Systems and Services | Low — vaccines appear in immunity | Hospital and PHC structure, first aid and basic life support, the national immunisation schedule |
| National Health Policies and Programs | None | Major schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and national health programmes |
| Mental Health | None | Stress, well-being |
| Professional Ethics and Aptitude | None | Empathy, responsibility, patient rights |
| Others / Miscellaneous | None | Telemedicine, types of disaster and disaster management |
The overlap column is our judgement from the syllabus headings, not a WBJEEB statement. The point is practical: roughly three units reuse what you already study for the 25-mark Biology section, so the new work sits in the other six — public health, first aid, programmes, ethics, mental health and disasters.
Where other pages get this wrong
Health Aptitude is a health-awareness section; it has no reasoning or numerical-aptitude unit.
Commonly published instead: A Health Aptitude syllabus that includes "logical and numerical aptitude", or a Paper-I that still has Logical Reasoning.
The official syllabus lists nine units, from hygiene to disaster management, and none is reasoning. Logical Reasoning left Paper-I in 2026 and now appears only in Paper-II (BHA).
How each unit is likely to be asked
Without a past paper, the safest preparation is to know the definitions, the named examples and the standard numbers that a general-health question can test. Four patterns fit the syllabus wording:
| Question pattern | Example of the kind of fact | Units it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Name or definition | What a communicable disease is; what basic life support involves | 1, 2, 3, 7, 9 |
| Deficiency or cause | Which vitamin deficiency causes night blindness; what anaemia is | 2, 6 |
| Scheme or programme | What Ayushman Bharat is for; what a primary health centre does | 3, 4 |
| Situation | The right first step in a first-aid scene; the right response to a patient's question | 3, 8 |
That table is our reading of the syllabus, meant for planning. It is not a list of questions WBJEEB has asked.
A six-week plan
The 2027 exam date is not announced, so this plan is written in weeks, not calendar dates. It assumes about four hours a week on Health Aptitude alongside your science preparation — six weeks is enough to cover a 20-mark section at general-awareness depth, then keep it warm with weekly revision until the exam.
| Week | Units | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 Human Anatomy and Physiology | Revise the six organ systems from Biology; add exercise and ageing |
| 2 | 2 Common Diseases, 6 Nutrition and Dietetics | Transmission, lifestyle diseases, deficiency diseases, balanced diet |
| 3 | 1 Hygiene and Sanitation, 3 Healthcare Systems and Services | Hygiene practice, waste, PHC-to-hospital levels, first aid, immunisation schedule |
| 4 | 4 National Health Policies and Programs | Major national schemes and programmes; public-health law in outline |
| 5 | 7 Mental Health, 8 Professional Ethics, 9 Telemedicine and disasters | Short units: definitions and patient rights |
| 6 | All nine | Mixed practice; list every fact you got wrong and revise it |
| Time (our suggestion) | About four hours a week | Alongside science preparation; weekly revision after week 6 |

Language and format
Health Aptitude questions are printed in English and Bengali, like the science sections; only Basic English is English-only in Paper-I. All 20 are single-answer Category-1 questions marked on the same OMR sheet in blue or black ballpoint. Since a response cannot be changed once darkened, the usual advice applies with extra force here: answer the questions you know first, then come back to the ones where you can rule out an option, and leave pure guesses blank. With no past paper to calibrate against, the first real Health Aptitude practice most candidates get is in the exam hall — which is why a quiz on this section is worth more than one on a subject you have already studied for two years.
How much Health Aptitude is worth
Health Aptitude is 20 of Paper-I's 115 marks. It does not appear in the Paper-I tie-breakers, which run through negative marks, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English. So it adds to your score like any other section, but in a tie your science marks decide. Because it has no Category-2 questions, its only risk is the −¼ for a wrong answer; the guessing advice in our marking-scheme guide applies.
| Paper-I section | Marks | In the tie-breakers |
|---|---|---|
| Physics | 25 | Yes (4th) |
| Chemistry | 25 | Yes (3rd) |
| Biology | 25 | Yes (2nd) |
| Basic English | 20 | Yes (5th) |
| Health Aptitude | 20 | No |
| Total | 115 |
A realistic aim, our suggestion: treat Health Aptitude as the section where preparation converts most directly into marks, because the facts are finite and the questions are single-answer. The science sections will spread candidates out more; Health Aptitude is where you should not lose easy marks.

Practise it, don't just read it
Our Basic English and Health Aptitude quiz is the place to start on this section, and the Biology (Zoology) quiz covers the human-physiology unit it overlaps with.
The ProSyllabus JENPAS-UG library has five topic quizzes of ten questions each: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany), Biology (Zoology) and Basic English and Health Aptitude. Every question comes with an explanation.
