Checked 25 September 2026. Syllabus from GNDU's B.Com (Honours) 2026-30 file; pass rates from the December 2025 Semester I gazette; the paper order is the December 2025 date sheet. The December 2026 date sheet was not out on 25 September 2026, so the planner uses likely dates.
Semester I is the first university exam most B.Com students sit, and the numbers say it is the hardest: in December 2025 only 3,159 of 6,004 GNDU Semester I B.Com students (52.6%) passed every paper, against 72.3% in Semester III and 83.6% in Semester V (the gazettes print 52.9% and 83.85%). The papers are not objective tests but three-hour written papers, five answers out of eight, and the two that catch most students — Financial Accounting and Business Statistics — are at least half numerical. This guide turns the syllabus, the pass rates and the December 2025 date sheet into a plan for the weeks you have left, with a planner and a section tracker.

Where Semester I students lose papers
From GNDU's Semester I gazette (class 121101): the papers whose pass rates the gazette statement gives; Punjabi, the practical and Entrepreneurship Mindset are not shown. Almost one in four students failed Financial Accounting.
Read that chart as a plan. The two numerical papers each lose nearly a quarter of candidates, and because you must clear every paper, one bad numerical paper can be enough to leave you on the re-appear list — grace marks (at most 1% of the semester's aggregate) rescue only the narrowest misses. So give Financial Accounting and Business Statistics the largest share of your hours and start them first; Business Organisation and English are where most students pass, and they need steady reading rather than drilling.

How the five-of-eight rule shapes revision
Four rules that follow from the pattern
- Cover every section. You must answer at least one question from each of A, B, C and D, so a section you have not revised is a question you cannot write.
- Then go deep in two or three. Your fifth answer can come from any section, and each section offers two questions — so strength in two sections gives you real choice.
- Practise the numericals by hand, timed. At least half of Financial Accounting and Business Statistics is problems. In a 100-mark paper each question is worth 20 marks and deserves about 32 minutes (10 marks each in the 50-mark Computer Applications theory paper).
- Write answers, not notes. Business Organisation and the theory parts are marked on written answers; practise writing a full answer from memory for each topic at least once.
For Financial Accounting, the formats carry the marks: final accounts with adjustments, consignment and joint-venture accounts, and branch and departmental accounts are long, format-heavy problems where a missed adjustment costs the balance. For Business Statistics, the reliable scorers are the mechanical ones — mean, median and mode from a grouped table, standard deviation and coefficient of variation, Karl Pearson's correlation, regression lines, index numbers with the time- and factor-reversal tests, and a least-squares trend. Do each type until you can set out the table without looking.
| Paper and section | Problem types in the syllabus |
|---|---|
| Financial Accounting — B | Final accounts of a sole proprietor (trading, profit and loss, balance sheet); voyage accounts |
| Financial Accounting — C | Joint venture accounts; consignment accounts |
| Financial Accounting — D | Departmental accounts; branch accounts (stock and debtors system, independent branch) |
| Business Statistics — A | Mean, median and mode |
| Business Statistics — B | Range to coefficient of variation; Karl Pearson and rank correlation; regression; probable error |
| Business Statistics — C | Laspeyres, Paasche and Fisher index numbers; time- and factor-reversal tests; consumer price index |
| Business Statistics — D | Trend by graphic, semi-averages, moving averages and least squares; probability |
From the unit lists of BCO01005T and BCO01008T in the 2026-30 syllabus. Section A of Financial Accounting is mostly concepts and recording, which also turns up inside the longer problems.
Previous question papers: what exists
We found no official GNDU source of previous B.Com question papers when we checked on 25 September 2026: not in the Examinations and Student Corner menus (58 items that day), the Resource Centre, circulars, the date-sheet and syllabus portals or the library site. The syllabi and date sheets are marked "copy rights reserved". What does exist is a collection called "Previous Years Question Papers - GNDU" kept on the National Digital Library by DAV College, Jalandhar, and third-party sites that host papers. None of them is GNDU-published, so check any paper against your own batch's syllabus before you rely on it: a paper from the 2023-26 scheme may test Business Communication, which your batch does not study.
Where other pages get this wrong
GNDU's website has no previous-question-paper section: there is no "Model Question Papers" item in Student Corner and nothing under the Download Centre.
Commonly published instead: "Go to Students Corner → Model Question Papers" and "click on the Downloads tab at the bottom of the home page … click on the second image" to get papers.
The Student Corner's 58 items and the Download Centre (Resource Centre) hold forms, schedules and ordinances only. The papers these pages point to are from colleges and third-party sites.
The best substitute is your syllabus itself. Because every paper sets two questions from each section, you can build your own paper: for each section, write down the four or five topics that could each carry a 20-mark question, and practise one full answer or problem per topic.
Your hours
How many hours do you have before Semester I?
Choose your likely exam day and how many hours a week you can study. The planner counts the weeks left from today and splits your total hours across the paper.
The dates are provisional planning choices, not GNDU dates: in 2025 GNDU's college calendar began theory examinations on 15 November, and the B.Com Semester I papers began on 26 November. The shares are our suggestion, weighted towards the two papers with the lowest pass rates; practicals and Entrepreneurship Mindset-I are assessed separately and need their own time.
Semester I core-paper section tracker
Tick a section once you can answer a full question on it from memory. Four sections per core commerce and computer paper — the same four the question paper is set from. English, Punjabi and the practicals are not listed here.

The last two weeks
A routine for the fortnight before the first paper
- Download the December 2026 date sheet the day it appears and write the gap before each paper on your plan; in 2025 the gaps were 1 to 4 days.
- If Financial Accounting and Business Statistics come first again, finish their full problem practice before the exams start and use the gaps only to revise formats and formulas.
- Do at least one full three-hour paper per core subject under exam conditions: choose five questions, one per section, and keep each to about 32 minutes.
- Keep your roll number slip and a printed date sheet together; be seated 15 minutes early, when the OMR-cover answer book is handed out.
- The winter vacation (25 Dec – 10 Jan) is not a guaranteed break: in 2025 some papers were postponed into early January.
Practise it, don't just read it
The Semester I quizzes cover Financial Accounting, Business Organisation, Business Statistics, computers and English. Some topics come from earlier syllabi (DOS, IFRS, bank reconciliation), so check each quiz against your own batch's sections before you rely on it.
The ProSyllabus GNDU B.Com library has Semester I quizzes on Financial Accounting, Business Organisation, Business Statistics, computer fundamentals and English, each with an AI analysis of what you got wrong.
