GATE 2027 is organized by IIT Madras, whose official notification and brochure was released on 20 July 2026 at the gate2027.iitm.ac.in portal. Ecology and Evolution (EY) is one of 30 papers, held as a computer-based test on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027.

GOAPS registration for GATE 2027, originally planned for 14 August 2026, was postponed and opened on 27 August 2026 instead. The regular deadline without late fee is 27 September 2026, with a late-fee window until 5 October 2026; DigiLocker registration and live facial verification are now mandatory.

The GATE 2027 Ecology and Evolution syllabus is structured across five sections: Ecology, Evolution, Mathematics and Quantitative Ecology, Behavioural Ecology, and Applied Ecology and Evolution, covering population and community ecology, conservation biology, and evolutionary and molecular biology. No EY-specific additions or deletions were confirmed separately from the general 2027 revision.

IIT Madras has not yet assigned the EY paper a specific date or session within the six exam days; this is expected to be confirmed only when admit cards are released. GATE 2027 results are scheduled for 19 March 2027, per the official portal.

GATE 2027 has not been officially notified yet. IIT Madras is expected to be the organising institute, with the notification projected for late July 2026, the GOAPS application window around 24 August to 13 October 2026, and the exam expected on 6, 7, 13 and 14 February 2027. All these dates remain tentative.

IIT Guwahati declared the GATE 2026 result on 19 March 2026 with paper-wise qualifying marks. Ecology and Evolution (EY) had one of the highest cut-offs of all papers at 40 marks for General, 36 for OBC-NCL/EWS and 26.6 for SC/ST/PwD, so GATE 2027 EY aspirants must aim high.

No syllabus change has been announced for GATE 2027, so the GATE 2026 EY syllabus remains the working reference. The paper is a three-hour computer-based test of 100 marks with General Aptitude worth 15 marks and 85 marks from the Ecology and Evolution syllabus, using MCQ, MSQ and NAT questions with negative marking only on MCQs.

A GATE score stays valid for three years from the announcement of results, so an EY score from GATE 2026, declared on 19 March 2026, remains usable until March 2029 for M.Sc, M.Tech and PhD admissions at IITs, IISc and other institutes accepting GATE Ecology and Evolution scores.

EY is one of the 30 GATE test papers, and the organising institute publishes the authoritative paper list, syllabus and pattern. Until IIT Madras releases the GATE 2027 brochure, treat circulating 2027 exam dates, fees or syllabus claims as unofficial and confirm them on the GATE portal before acting.
