Checked 25 September 2026. Our sums from the public institute and course data behind cap.apcfss.in/PgecetInstProfile, read 25 Sep 2026 (rows dated 21 and 23 Sep 2026). Seats can change as affiliations are granted.
How many M.Tech and M.Pharm seats are there through AP PGECET, and in which colleges? Aggregator pages give 241, 329 or 333 colleges. The admissions portal itself publishes the answer: every institution's courses, seats, fee type and tuition fee, in a public data feed behind its "institute profile" page. We read it on 25 September 2026 and added it up. Every figure below is our count from that official data.
Where other pages get this wrong
The 2026 CAP data lists 319 institutions for AP PGECET, 307 of them with at least one course, and 15,888 seats.
Commonly published instead: "241 participating colleges" (Careers360), "333 colleges, 17 universities" (Collegedunia) or "329 institutes" (Shiksha, including IIT Tirupati and KL Deemed University).
Our sum of every course row in the CAP institute data: 1,140 rows, 15,888 seats — M.Tech 11,574, M.Pharm 4,081 and Pharm.D (PB) 233. IIT Tirupati and KL (Deemed) are not in the CAP list.

Seats by type of college
| College type | M.Tech | M.Pharm | Pharm.D (PB) |
|---|---|---|---|
| University colleges (UNIV) | 1,303 | 175 | 11 |
| University self-finance wings (SF) | 674 | 296 | 0 |

| Private universities (PU) | 618 | 72 | 15 |
Our sums from the CAP data, 25 Sep 2026.
The headline is that more than three-quarters of M.Tech seats are in private affiliated colleges; the university colleges — where fees are lowest and State fee reimbursement applies to eligible PGECET rankers — hold about 1,300. By region, the AU area has 8,170 M.Tech, 2,634 M.Pharm and 130 Pharm.D seats; the SVU area 2,668, 1,300 and 88; and the statewide universities 736, 147 and 15.

| AU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences | 5 M.Pharm × 11 seats (RGS, ₹49,500) + Pharm.D (PB) 11 (RGN, ₹68,000) |

Tuition fees by college type
| Programme | University colleges | Self-finance wings | Private colleges | Private universities |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M.Tech | ₹30,000–57,000 (median 49,500) | ₹50,000–75,000 | ₹59,000–90,000 (median 59,000) | ₹59,000–1,03,000 (median 99,500) |
| M.Pharm | ₹49,500–1,45,000 (median 1,21,000) | ₹75,000–1,41,295 | ₹70,500–90,000 (median 70,500) | ₹70,500–99,500 |
| Pharm.D (PB) | ₹68,000 | — | ₹49,500–80,000 | ₹49,500–51,500 |
Our ranges and medians from the CAP "fee with no exemption" field. In that data the "fee with exemption" is zero on every university and self-finance-wing row and equals the full fee on every private row — consistent with State reimbursement applying only in Government universities.
Fee type codes: who gets support
| Code | Meaning | AICTE scholarship (GATE/GPAT candidates) |
|---|---|---|
| RGS | Regular seat | Eligible |
| RGN | Regular seat | Not eligible |
| SFS | Self-finance seat | Eligible |
| SFN | Self-finance seat | Not eligible |
| SSN | Self-supporting seat | Not eligible; no fee reimbursement for PGECET candidates either |
The public notice adds four rules: Pharm.D (PB) is not eligible for the AICTE scholarship; GATE/GPAT candidates are not eligible for State tuition-fee reimbursement; PGECET rankers are eligible for reimbursement only in Government universities; and the Post-Matric Scholarship for PG applies only to convener-quota students in State-funded universities and Government colleges. For reimbursement the age limit is 30 (OC) or 34 (others) on 1 July 2026, and an income certificate is required. In the 2026 data, M.Tech seats split SFS 9,572, SFN 729, RGS 660, RGN 482 and 131 untagged.
Scholarship or fee reimbursement? Check a seat
Every course row on CAP carries a fee-type code. Choose how you are being admitted, the code, and the kind of college.
From the PGECET-2026 admissions public notice and detailed notification on cap.apcfss.in. The AICTE scholarship amount and income limits are set by AICTE and the State, not stated in these documents; reimbursement also has an age limit of 30 (OC) or 34 (others) on 1 July 2026.

Our sums from the CAP institute data, 25 Sep 2026. The region is the CAP record's own area field.
Two patterns stand out. The AU area has about three M.Tech seats for every one in the SVU area, which matters because 85% of each college's seats go to local candidates of its own area. And nearly all M.Tech seats — 9,572 of 11,574 — are self-finance seats marked eligible for the AICTE scholarship, so a GATE-qualified candidate has a wide choice of supported seats, while the few hundred regular (RG) seats sit mostly in university colleges. The data also marks 20 institutions as girls-only, and six Christian-minority and four Muslim-minority institutions, which fill part of their seats under their own rules.
University colleges against private colleges
The university colleges — AU, JNTUK, JNTUA, SVU and the others marked UNIV — are where the combination most candidates want sits: low tuition (a median of ₹49,500 for M.Tech), State fee reimbursement for eligible PGECET rankers, and established departments. They hold only 1,303 of the 11,574 M.Tech seats, and — as in every course, everywhere — GATE/GPAT candidates are filled first and PGECET rankers take the seats left. Private colleges hold 8,979 M.Tech seats at a median of ₹59,000, with no State reimbursement for PGECET rankers, but most of those seats are SFS and so carry the AICTE scholarship for GATE-qualified students. That is the real trade-off to weigh when you order your options: rank against cost against support.
How to use the matrix before options close
Three checks before you freeze options. First, the branch name: there are 151 distinct M.Tech branch names, many of them near-duplicates ("VLSI", "VLSI & Embedded Systems", "VLSI Design"), so search for every spelling of the branch you want. Second, the fee type, which decides scholarship and reimbursement eligibility (the checker above). Third, the area: in an AU-area or SVU-area college, a candidate who is not local to that area competes only for its 15% unreserved seats (statewide universities split their local seats between the two areas). The institute profile page on cap.apcfss.in shows all three for each college.
A caution on "left-over seats"
The CAP data also has a "left-over seats" field, and on 25 September 2026 it equalled the total seats on every one of the 1,140 rows. That is not evidence of vacant seats: the first phase is a joint GATE/GPAT and PGECET allotment that had not yet run. Allotments are also "subject to the grant of affiliation from the University", so a seat in the matrix today may not be offered.
Practise it, don't just read it
Computer Science, Structural and VLSI branches hold the most M.Tech seats. Whichever you target, the rank is made on one 120-question paper. Timed topic quizzes are a quick way to find weak areas before next year.
The ProSyllabus AP PGECET library has topic quizzes for Engineering Mathematics, Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering — the first one is free.
