Checked 25 September 2026. Seats and fees are our sums from the CAP institute data (25 Sep 2026); rules from the APPGECET-2026 booklet and the 2026 admissions notification and public notice.
For a B.Pharm graduate in Andhra Pradesh, AP PGECET's Pharmacy paper (PY) is the State route into M.Pharm and the three-year Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate). It runs alongside GPAT: GPAT-qualified candidates are placed first, and the seats left go to PGECET rankers. This guide covers the paper, the seats by specialisation, the fees and who gets financial support.
Where other pages get this wrong
GPAT candidates do not have a separate AP counselling in 2026; they are allotted first in the same process, and leftover seats go to AP PGECET rankers.
Commonly published instead: "GPAT counselling is a separate, independent process from AP PGECET."
The 2026 notification is a single "PGECET & GATE/GPAT-2026 Admissions" process on cap.apcfss.in: GPAT candidates register as "AP PGECET-GPAT", get "first preference … based on their test scores", and "the left over seats after allotment for GATE/GPAT Candidates will be available for APPGECET-2026 Candidates". In 2025 there was a separate GPAT round, which is where the confusion comes from.
Our sums from the CAP data (25 Sep 2026); APPGECET-2026 booklet.
The Pharmacy paper
PY follows the common pattern — 120 questions and 120 marks (booklet), 120 minutes (printed in the 2026 master question paper), no negative marking, English — and, unlike most engineering papers, has no mathematics section. Its syllabus covers pharmacognosy and phytochemistry; pharmaceutical chemistry (including inorganic pharmaceuticals); pharmaceutics (physical pharmacy, pharmaceutical technology, biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics); pharmacology; clinical pharmacy; pharmaceutical analysis and quality assurance; and forensic pharmacy — the Pharmacy Act 1948, the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945, the NDPS Act 1985 and the DPCO. In 2026 PY was written on 28 April in shift 1, alongside GG.
Who may write it: B.Pharm graduates may write PY, BT or NT; B.V.Sc., BDS and MBBS graduates may write BT or NT. The same 50% (45% reserved) degree minimum and 30/120 qualifying mark (none for SC/ST) apply. We found no separate Pharm.D (PB) eligibility statement beyond "B.Pharm → PY" in the booklet's table.
M.Pharm seats by specialisation
Our sums by specialisation name; Pharmaceutical Biotechnology has 11 more.
Two specialisations — Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Analysis — hold more than half the seats between them. The small ones are small indeed: 23 Pharmacognosy seats and 11 in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology across the whole State.
| College type | M.Pharm seats | Pharm.D (PB) seats |
|---|---|---|
| University colleges | 175 | 11 |
| University self-finance wings | 296 | 0 |
| Private colleges | 3,538 | 207 |
| Private universities | 72 | 15 |
Our sums from the CAP institute data, 25 Sep 2026. Example: AU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences lists 5 M.Pharm specialisations of 11 seats (RGS, ₹49,500) and 11 Pharm.D (PB) seats (RGN, ₹68,000).
Fees and financial support
| Programme | University colleges | Private colleges | Private universities |
|---|---|---|---|
| M.Pharm | ₹49,500–1,45,000 (median 1,21,000) | ₹70,500–90,000 (median 70,500) | ₹70,500–99,500 |
| Pharm.D (PB) | ₹68,000 | ₹49,500–80,000 | ₹49,500–51,500 |
CAP "fee with no exemption" field; whether the figure is per year is not labelled.
One oddity worth noticing: for M.Pharm the median fee is higher in university colleges than in private ones — ₹1,21,000 against ₹70,500 — the reverse of M.Tech. The support rules matter more than the sticker price, though. GPAT-qualified candidates on RGS or SFS seats are eligible for the AICTE PG scholarship; Pharm.D (PB) is not eligible for it. GPAT candidates cannot claim State fee reimbursement; PGECET rankers can, but only in Government universities, subject to income and age conditions (30 for OC, 34 for others, on 1 July 2026). M.Pharm seats in the 2026 data are almost all self-finance: SFS 3,839, SFN 147, RGS 55 and 40 untagged (4,081 in all).
Scholarship or fee reimbursement? Check a seat
Every course row on CAP carries a fee-type code. Choose how you are being admitted, the code, and the kind of college.
From the PGECET-2026 admissions public notice and detailed notification on cap.apcfss.in. The AICTE scholarship amount and income limits are set by AICTE and the State, not stated in these documents; reimbursement also has an age limit of 30 (OC) or 34 (others) on 1 July 2026.
Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) in brief
Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) is the Pharm.D route for B.Pharm graduates, offered through the same process. The 2026 data lists 233 seats in 30 institutions: 11 in university colleges (all at AU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, RGN, ₹68,000), 207 in private colleges and 15 in private universities. Almost all are SFN seats (222), and none carries the AICTE scholarship. We found no separate Pharm.D (PB) eligibility rule in the 2026 booklet beyond the degree table's "B.Pharm → PY", so the PY paper and the 50% (45%) degree minimum are what apply.
| Question | M.Pharm | Pharm.D (PB) |
|---|---|---|
| Which paper? | PY (Pharmacy); GPAT holders placed first | PY (Pharmacy) |
| Seats (2026 CAP data) | 4,081 in 116 institutions | 233 in 30 institutions |
| AICTE scholarship | GPAT candidates on RGS/SFS seats | Not eligible |
| State fee reimbursement | PGECET rankers in Government universities only | Same rule |
| Largest seat holder | Private colleges (3,538) | Private colleges (207) |
Our summary of the booklet, the public notice and the CAP data.
Preparing for the PY paper
With no mathematics and no negative marking, PY rewards breadth across the seven syllabus areas at exactly one minute a question. The forensic-pharmacy section is short and specific — four statutes and an order — and worth learning precisely, since statute questions are the easiest to lose through half-remembered numbers. The 2026 PY master paper with its preliminary key, from 28 April 2026, is the best single practice paper; treat it as a timed mock.
| Syllabus area (PY) | Includes |
|---|---|
| Pharmaceutics | Physical pharmacy, pharmaceutical technology, biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics |
| Pharmaceutical chemistry | Including inorganic pharmaceuticals |
| Pharmacology · Clinical pharmacy | Drug action and therapeutics; clinical practice |
| Pharmacognosy and phytochemistry | Crude drugs and plant constituents |
| Pharmaceutical analysis and QA | Analytical methods and quality assurance |
| Forensic pharmacy | Pharmacy Act 1948; Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945; NDPS Act 1985; DPCO |

How the 2025 pharmacy admissions ran
| Round (2025) | Dates |
|---|---|
| GPAT first phase | Web options 13–15 Sep; allotment 18 Sep; reporting 19–22 Sep 2025 |
| PGECET first phase | Web options 10–14 Sep; allotment 26 Sep 2025 |
| M.Pharm first-phase classwork | From 13 Oct 2025; self-reporting by 15 Oct |
| Final phase (GATE, GPAT and PGECET together) | Options 16–18 Oct; allotment 21 Oct; classes 23 Oct 2025 |
GPAT admissions notice 2025, the 2025 admission portal (archived) and the 2025 final-phase notification. In 2026 GPAT and PGECET are allotted together in the first phase (allotment 4 Oct 2026).
Choosing an M.Pharm specialisation
The seat counts carry a practical message for option entry. Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Analysis together offer 2,377 seats, so a mid-ranked candidate is far more likely to find a seat there than in Pharmacology (656) or the small specialisations — Pharmaceutical Chemistry has 100 seats in the whole State and Pharmacognosy 23. Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance and Pharmacy Practice sit in between. If a particular specialisation matters more to you than the college, list it across several colleges before you list other specialisations at your first-choice college; if the college matters more, do the reverse. Either way, the seat matrix on cap.apcfss.in is the list to work from; allotment follows your option order within your rank, category and the reservation rules.
