GATE Psychology 2027 Preparation Plan: Week by Week to February
A 19-week GATE XH Psychology plan to the 6–21 February 2027 window, with hours split by the marks each part actually carried in 2023–2026 — and a planner for your own exam date and hours.

GATE 2027 is held on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027. From the end of September that is about nineteen weeks. For Psychology, the plan has to answer two questions most plans ignore: how much time the compulsory 40 marks deserve, and how to fit in the organisational-behaviour topics that are new to the 2027 syllabus.

Where your hours should go
Psychology is 60 marks, Reasoning and Comprehension 25 and General Aptitude 15. Within Psychology, the split below follows the four-year marks from our count of the official papers — Research Methods and Statistics gets the most by far — with a little extra for the new organisational-behaviour block. Reasoning and GA get 39% of the study time against 40% of the marks (25 + 15), because they overlap: puzzle and arithmetic practice serves both.

Phase 1 — Build the core (weeks 1–6)
Goal: the two largest Psychology sections, plus daily reasoning
- Weeks 1–3: Research Methods and Statistics. Research designs, sampling, qualitative methods, ethics; descriptive statistics, normal curve, hypothesis testing and error types, correlation types, regression, factor analysis, ANOVA/MANOVA/ANCOVA, effect size and power. Do every past question in this section as you go.
- Weeks 4–5: Biological Basis and Perception–Learning–Memory. Nervous system, neurons, neurotransmitters, hormones, research methods in physiological psychology; sensation, perception, conditioning, memory and forgetting.
- Week 6: Psychometrics. Test construction, item analysis, reliability, validity, norms — by our count 0, 4, 4 and 7 marks in 2023–2026.
- Every day: 40 minutes of XH0/GA — alternate puzzles and arithmetic.
Getting Research Methods and Statistics right in three weeks
Most of this section is conceptual — by our count only nine questions in the four papers needed arithmetic beyond reading off a value — but the calculations that do appear use a small set of relationships. Learn these, and learn to say in words what each one means.

The conceptual majority — research designs, qualitative methods, sampling, ethics, which correlation suits which data (biserial, point-biserial, tetrachoric, phi), when to use a non-parametric test — is best learned from a research-methods textbook chapter by chapter, testing yourself on the past questions for that chapter the same day.
Phase 2 — Cover the rest (weeks 7–11)
Goal: every remaining section once, with its past questions
- Week 7: Social Psychology (attribution, attitudes, influence, group dynamics, intergroup relations).
- Week 8: Personality and Motivation–Emotion–Stress.
- Week 9: Cognition and Development across the life span.
- Weeks 10–11: Clinical Psychology and Organizational Behavior — disorders, DSM, psychotherapies (with REBT and meditation), and the new organisational-behaviour block — plus Applications.
Phase 3 and 4 — Papers and revision (weeks 12–19)
Goal: rehearse the whole paper, then consolidate
- Weeks 12–15: one full timed paper a week (2023 Psychology part, then 2024, 2025, then a mock), each analysed as long as it took; a weekly XH0 set from the older B1 papers.
- Weeks 16–19: two-page sheets per section (Research Methods gets four), the 2026 paper as a dress rehearsal, and your mistakes log. Nothing new in the last ten days.
If XH falls in the second or third week of February, give the extra time to revision.

Two habits make this analysis stick. Keep one mistakes log for the whole season rather than one per paper, so repeated errors become visible; and before each new paper, re-read only the last two weeks of the log. By January the log, not the textbook, is what you revise from — it is a list of exactly the mistakes you personally make.

Whatever your start date, protect two things: the Research Methods and Statistics section, which carried the most marks in every paper we counted, and daily reasoning practice, which is the most dependable 40 marks on a paper whose Psychology difficulty swings so much from year to year.
Practise it, don't just read it
Topic quizzes fit the first phase best — research methods, learning and the biological basis are covered.
The ProSyllabus GATE Psychology library currently has four topic quizzes: Measures of Central Tendency and ANOVA and Post Hoc Tests (XH5.1, Research Methods and Statistics), Classical Conditioning Paradigms (XH5.4, Learning) and Neurotransmitters and Limbic Functions (XH5.3, Biological Basis). Each has ten questions and a worked explanation for every option. For the other sections, work from the official past papers.
How should I split time between Psychology and reasoning for GATE XH?
Roughly 60% on Psychology and 40% on Reasoning and Comprehension plus General Aptitude, matching the 60/25/15 marks split. Within Psychology, give Research Methods and Statistics the largest share — it carried 30% of the Psychology marks in the 2023 to 2026 papers.
Is four months enough for GATE Psychology?
For a psychology graduate, usually yes: about nineteen weeks remain from late September to 6 February 2027 — enough to cover all eleven sections by early December and spend the rest on papers and revision.
Which GATE Psychology topic should I study first?
Research Methods and Statistics. It carried 12, 26, 17 and 17 of the 60 Psychology marks in 2023 to 2026, more than any other section, and its concepts recur in psychometrics and applied questions.

How do I prepare the new organisational behaviour topics?
From an industrial-organisational psychology or organisational behaviour textbook, one chapter per syllabus item: diversity, culture, decision-making, power and politics, leadership theories and styles, positive organisational behaviour, and performance management. No past GATE paper covers them fully.
