Prövning i Svenska 3 och Svenska som andraspråk 3 (komvux) Group Discussion

Prövning lets an adult take the final assessment of upper-secondary Swedish without attending the course, through a municipal adult education provider (komvux). Under the Education Act (skollagen 20 kap. 40 a §) anyone resident in Sweden who wants a grade from upper-secondary adult education may take prövning in any subject level that is graded, at a provider that teaches that level. Since 1 July 2025 komvux grades subjects by level (Gy25): Svenska nivå 3 and Svenska som andraspråk nivå 3 replace the courses Svenska 3 and Svenska som andraspråk 3, and providers may still examine the old courses during a transition period that ends on 30 June 2030. A prövning normally includes the national test for level 3, set by Uppsala University and common to both subjects: part A is an investigative text of a scientific kind (600 to 800 words, 240 minutes) written from a booklet of texts on a theme, and part B is an individual argumentative oral presentation. The provider adds its own parts, such as a literature exam or tests on rhetoric and language history, and every part must be passed. The provider may charge a fee of at most 500 kronor (förordning 1991:1124), with exceptions. A pass at level 3 in either subject meets the Swedish requirement for basic eligibility for Swedish universities.
