NPPF Inspectors' Legal Exam (Step Two) Articles & Updates

The NPPF Step Two inspectors' legal examination is the national law and procedure exam that police sergeants in England and Wales take on the way to promotion to inspector under the National Police Promotion Framework (NPPF), which is run by the College of Policing. It is a single three-hour online paper of 150 multiple-choice questions covering crime, evidence and procedure, and general police duties, and the questions are drawn solely from the current edition of the Blackstone's Police Manuals. Every chapter of the syllabus applies to the inspectors' exam except chapter 1.8 (Weapons), which is for the sergeants' exam only. Ten questions are removed in marking, so candidates are scored on 140, and the inspectors' pass mark is 65% (91 correct answers out of 140). The inspectors' exam is held in May and November. Only officers who hold the rank of sergeant are eligible, and they register through their force examinations officer. A pass is valid for five years (less one day) from the date of the exam.
