Each question rests on the words of one provision: an Act or regulation as it stands on legislation.gov.uk, or a paragraph of the current PACE or CPIA Codes, and the explanation quotes it. Questions are about applying the law to a police scenario, not recalling tables or maximum penalties. We left out points changed by the Crime and Policing Act 2026 or the Mental Health Act 2025, and rules that rest only on case law. These are limits of what our practice test covers, not a statement of what the official exam leaves out.
Not practised here
- chapter 1.8 (Weapons), which the College lists for the sergeants' exam only
- points of law changed by the Crime and Policing Act 2026 or the Mental Health Act 2025, and rules that rest on case law alone
- the College's own practice questions, which it shares with candidates through its Knowledge Hub group
What you see after every mock
- Your score out of 150 against the 65% line, and your score in crime, evidence and procedure, and general police duties.
- Your time per question, against a clock of 3 hours for 150 questions.
- The reason behind every answer, with the Act, regulation or Code paragraph it rests on.
A score here is your score on our questions. It is not an NPPF result and does not predict one.
The exam, as the College of Policing describes it
- The sergeants' and inspectors' step two legal exams are each a single three-hour exam of 150 multiple-choice questions on crime, evidence and procedure, and general police duties.
- Questions are drawn solely from the 2027 edition of the Blackstone's Police Manuals. Every chapter applies to both exams except chapter 1.8, which is for the sergeants' exam only.
- Ten questions are removed at marking, so candidates are scored on 140. The inspectors' pass mark is 65% (91 of 140); 85% or above is an exceptional result.
- Only officers who hold the rank of sergeant may take the inspectors' exam. In 2027 it is held from 11 to 13 May and from 2 to 4 November.

Before you buy
Are these real NPPF exam questions?
No. Every question is our own, written from the legislation and the PACE and CPIA Codes. None comes from the College of Policing or from Blackstone's.
Is this made or endorsed by the College of Policing?
No. It is independent practice by ProSyllabus. The College endorses only the Blackstone's Police Manuals for the exam.
Is it for the inspectors' exam or the sergeants'?
The inspectors'. The College says all syllabus areas apply to both exams except chapter 1.8 (Weapons), which applies only to the sergeants' exam and is left out here, and the mocks are marked against the inspectors' 65% pass mark.
Will this make me pass?
We do not claim that it will. It gives you timed practice at the exam's count and time, your score by area on our questions and the provision behind every answer, so you can see where to revise.
What do I get?
2 mocks of 150 questions with a 3-hour clock, in the full test player with a question palette and mark for review. After each mock: your score by area, your time per question and the explanation of every answer. Retake either mock as often as you like.
