Checked 25 September 2026. From DHP's Guidelines for Pharmacists (Sep 2025), which cite circulars for many details; processing times are DHP's own targets. Fees are paid in DHP's electronic system and are not printed in the guidelines.
Qatar's route to a pharmacist licence runs through DHP's Registration/Licensing Electronic System in stages: an evaluation of your documents and verification, a preliminary evaluation letter, then a licence once you have a Qatari ID and a licensed employer. DHP's Guidelines for Pharmacists set out each stage with its documents and processing time. This guide follows them in order.
DHP Guidelines for Pharmacists (Sep 2025).
The stages
| Stage | What happens | DHP time |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Qualifying exam | Pass the NPQE (or hold an exemption) — the pass certificate is an evaluation document | — |
| 2. Evaluation request | Submit online with documents and pay; can be done without an employer (circular DHP/2024/22) | 15 working days |
| 3. Primary source verification | Verification companies check your documents; this replaces attestation | Not stated |
| 4. Preliminary evaluation | Issued with a CID letter if approved | Valid 6 months |
| 5. Temporary licence (optional) | Non-renewable, valid 6 months | 5 working days |
| 6. Licence | Needs a Qatari ID, police clearance, medical report, CPR course and good standing certificate; issued once the facility is licensed | 10 working days |
| 7. Renewal | Only once CPD requirements are met | 7 working days |
From DHP's Guidelines for Pharmacists. Processing times run from the date the requirements are complete. Circular DHP/2024/16 sets processing times more generally.
Stage 2: the evaluation request
| Document | Note |
|---|---|
| Valid passport | |
| Qatari ID, front and back | If you have one |
| A recent photo | To DHP's photo criteria (circular 04/2014) |
| Up-to-date CV | On DHP's template. "Any experience certificate that was not submitted/mentioned in the C.V in the first evaluation application will not be considered in any other evaluation" |
| Academic certificates with official transcripts | As required for your scope |
| Recent official experience certificates | Dated, signed and stamped by the facility |
| Licences covering the years of experience | Experience not covered by a licence is not counted |
| Primary source verification report | From a verification company |
| Qualifying exam pass certificate | Per circulars 13/2023 and DHP/2025/03, as printed in the guidelines |
Documents in languages other than Arabic or English must be translated. An application missing requirements is sent back for completion — at most three times — and then rejected. And the guidelines are explicit that an evaluation "does not oblige" DHP to grant any specific title.
Stage 3: verification
DHP relies on primary source verification by verification companies, and says this "replaces attestation of certificates by related competent authorities" — your certificates do not need to be attested. It is your responsibility to follow up the report. The outcomes are shown below.
| Verification result | What follows |
|---|---|
| Positive | The application can be approved |
| Unable to verify, or negative | You may be called for an interview (case study); re-verification within 14 days; the application may be approved, or rejected with the applicant blacklisted |
From the process map in DHP's Guidelines for Pharmacists. A blacklisting is the worst outcome on this path, and it follows from documents an issuer will not confirm — check every certificate with the body that issued it before you submit.
Stages 4–6: from preliminary evaluation to licence
An approved evaluation produces a preliminary evaluation and a CID letter. It is valid for six months: if you do not apply for a temporary or permanent licence within that time, you must apply for a new evaluation. That makes timing matter — the preliminary evaluation should come when an employer is ready to bring you over, not a year before.
| Licence requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Qatari ID (front and back) | Sponsored by the employer, with the occupation matching the scope |
| Police clearance from Qatar's Ministry of Interior | Addressed to the Ministry of Public Health; valid three months |
| Medical report | From HMC, the Medical Commission or named private hospitals; HIV, HCV, hepatitis B tests and a chest X-ray |
| Recognised CPR course | Per circular DHP/2024/06 |
| Certificate of good standing | Since 1 August 2025, accepted only through a primary source verification report (DHP/2025/08) |
DHP issues the licence once the application is complete and the facility is licensed; if the facility is not yet licensed, the request waits. A temporary licence, valid six months and non-renewable, can be issued in five working days; without a Qatari ID it needs a home-country medical test and police clearance, both attested by Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Two licence documents have short lives, so time them last. The police clearance from Qatar's Ministry of Interior is valid for three months, and the medical report's tests have validity periods set by circular 10/2019. Both are obtained in Qatar once you have a Qatari ID, which is why the licence stage follows the move rather than preceding it — unless you use the temporary licence, which needs home-country equivalents attested by Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The good standing certificate
The certificate of good standing is checked at the licensing stage, and DHP places the follow-up on the applicant or employer. For an Indian pharmacist it comes from the registration authority for your most recent required experience — for practice in India, the State Pharmacy Council (our reading; DHP names no Indian body). DHP's September 2025 guidelines still mention email and post, but circular DHP/2025/08 stopped accepting those from 1 August 2025: the certificate must now come through a primary source verification report. DHP warns that misleading information "will result in further investigations and could result in disciplinary action".
Why applications stall
| Where it stalls | What DHP does |
|---|---|
| A document is missing | Sends it back — at most three times — then rejects it |
| Verification cannot confirm a document | Interview or case study; re-verification within 14 days; possible rejection and blacklisting |
| An experience certificate was left out of the first CV | It is not considered in any later evaluation |
| The preliminary evaluation expires | After six months without a licence application, a new evaluation is needed |
| The employer's facility is not yet licensed | The licence request waits until it is |
From DHP's Guidelines for Pharmacists. Most of these are avoidable by checking documents with their issuers before submitting and by timing the evaluation to a real job offer.
After you are licensed
Two services matter once you work in Qatar. Changing your place of work is a separate online application, and like the first licence it needs the new facility to be licensed. Adding or changing a scope needs an employer's no-objection letter, verified documents for the new scope and, between Industrial Pharmacist and Pharmacist, the other scope's exam; DHP reviews it in 15 working days. If you later move on, DHP issues a certificate of good standing — only for practitioners it has licensed — directly to the registration authority you name, in 10 working days.
Renewal and CPD
Renewal is gated by CPD: DHP's system "will not allow practitioners to apply for renewal" until they meet the CPD requirements set by DHP's Accreditation Section — annual, category-specific and cycle requirements, recorded in a CPD portfolio. The renewal itself needs your ID, a photo and an employment letter signed by the medical director, and takes seven working days to review. The Accreditation Section's CPD Cycle Policy sets the numbers.
| Rule | What DHP says |
|---|---|
| Licence validity | Two years (MOPH licensing service) |
| CPD cycle | Two years, matching the licence |
| CPD per cycle | At least 80 credits, recorded in a CPD ePortfolio |
| Each year | At least 40 credits annually, as well as the cycle total |
| By category | At least 40 credits in Category 1 and 40 across Categories 2 and 3 |
| Renewal without CPD | Blocked by the system until compliant |
| Expired 3 months to 5 years | "Automatically removed" from the registry; restoration and renewal application (DHP/2024/22) |
| Expired over 5 years | "Permanently removed"; cannot be restored to the registry (DHP/2024/22) |
From DHP's CPD Cycle Policy, MOPH's licensing service page and circular DHP/2024/22. A qualifying exam is not required again at renewal (Qualifying Examination Policy).

Practise it, don't just read it
The exam comes first in Qatar: its pass certificate is an evaluation document. Topic quizzes are the place to start.
The ProSyllabus Qatar pharmacist library has topic quizzes for Pharmacology and Mechanisms of Action, Pharmaceutics and Dosage Forms, Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutics, Therapeutics: Cardiovascular and Endocrine, Therapeutics: Infectious Disease and Antimicrobials, Pharmacy Practice, Dispensing and Patient Counseling, Drug Interactions, Adverse Effects and Toxicology and Pharmacy Law, Ethics and Qatar (QCHP) Regulations. Each question comes with an explanation.
What is the process to get a pharmacist licence in Qatar?
Pass the qualifying exam, submit an evaluation request with documents and primary source verification, receive a preliminary evaluation (valid six months), then apply for the licence with a Qatari ID, police clearance, medical report, CPR course and good standing certificate.
How long is the Qatar preliminary evaluation valid?
Six months. If you do not apply for a temporary or permanent licence within that time, you must apply for a new evaluation.
Do I need to attest my certificates for Qatar?
No. DHP says verification by verification companies replaces attestation by the competent authorities.
Can I apply for Qatar evaluation without an employer?
Yes. DHP's guidelines refer to a primary evaluation request without employer (circular DHP/2024/22).
Is the Qatar temporary licence renewable?
No. DHP issues a temporary licence valid for six months, and it is non-renewable.
What medical tests are needed for a Qatar licence?
DHP asks for a medical report including HIV, HCV antibody, hepatitis B surface antigen and antibody, hepatitis B core antibody, and a chest X-ray, issued by HMC, the Medical Commission or a named private hospital.
Can I renew my Qatar licence without CPD?
No. DHP's system blocks the renewal application until the practitioner meets the CPD requirements of DHP's Accreditation Section.
How long does DHP take to process a pharmacist application?
Its targets are 15 working days for evaluation, 5 for a temporary licence, 10 for a licence and 7 for renewal, each from a complete application.
