Checked 28 September 2026. From CCMT 2025 and 2026 opening and closing scores, IIT Roorkee’s published last-admitted normalised marks, IIT Kharagpur’s JMP cut-off sheets and 2026-27 brochure, and JAAP PG 2026 rules and ranks. Marks equivalents are our inversion of the official 2026 GATE AR formula.
A GATE AR score is used for three kinds of postgraduate admission: the IITs (each runs its own application; IIT Roorkee’s offers were uploaded on COAP in 2026), the NITs and centrally funded institutes through CCMT, and the Schools of Planning and Architecture through JAAP, where GATE is one part of a 100-point score. Each publishes cut-offs on a different scale, which is why they are so often misquoted. This guide keeps every figure on the scale it was published in, and converts GATE scores to AR marks using the 2026 formula so you can set a target. The headline: most NIT planning programmes admitted Open candidates in their last CCMT round at 350 to 410, about 40 to 44 marks; NIT Calicut’s M.Plan held at 549; and IIT Kharagpur’s General cut-offs were 620 and 656 in 2026.
CCMT 2026, IIT Kharagpur JMP 2026, JAAP PG 2026 business rules.
NITs and others through CCMT
CCMT publishes the GATE score of the last candidate admitted in each round. “R1” is Round 1; “last” is the last round in which a seat was allotted. The drop between them is large: MANIT Bhopal’s Urban Planning went from 463 in Round 1 to 355 in its last round in 2026. So a score that misses Round 1 can still reach a seat later if you keep participating.

Which CCMT architecture and planning seats did your score reach in 2026?
Enter a GATE score and category. The tool compares it with each programme’s official 2026 closing scores: Round 1, and the last round in which a seat was allotted. The 2027 closings will differ; use this to see where a score has recently landed, not as a promise.
Official CCMT 2026 opening and closing scores for programmes that admit AR, as in the table above. Several programmes also admit CE (and one GG) candidates in the same group. Marks shown are our inversion of the 2026 GATE AR formula.
AR candidates can also apply to CCMT programmes open to all GATE papers (for example some data science, renewable energy and geoinformatics programmes), and IIT Madras lists AR as an admissible paper for some of its Civil Engineering M.Tech programmes. Those cut-offs are not AR-specific, so we do not quote them here.
IIT Kharagpur (Architecture and Regional Planning)

IIT Kharagpur JMP GATE score cut-offs as printed. The 2026-27 brochure names the department’s programmes AR1 City Planning and AR2 Sustainable Built Environment; the sheets from 2024 print “AR” and “AR1”, and which programme “AR” means is not stated, and we do not assume it.
On the 2026 field, 620 is about 57.7 marks and 656 about 60.0 marks (our arithmetic). Only 126 candidates reached 60 marks in 2026, so the General cut-offs sit near the top of the national field.

Where other pages get this wrong
IIT Roorkee’s figures are on the institute’s own normalised scale. They cannot be raw GATE AR marks: the highest raw AR mark in 2026 was 80.33, yet Roorkee’s 2026 MURP General figure is 80.92.
Commonly published instead: Cut-off pages copy these numbers as “GATE AR marks required for IIT Roorkee” and compare them with the 40-mark qualifying line.
Compare Roorkee’s figures only with other Roorkee years. For a target in raw marks, use the IIT Kharagpur or CCMT scores and convert them with the table above.

JAAP PG 2026 opening and closing ranks, Open category, Round 1. These are JAAP rank-list positions, not GATE All India Ranks, and no GATE score can be read off them.
Because GATE is 35 points of 100 in JAAP, a strong undergraduate record, experience and a good interaction can outweigh a modest GATE score. Our reading: for the SPAs, GATE AR strengthens a profile but it is not the whole decision, and you must attend the interaction to be ranked at all.

CEPT University, Ahmedabad
CEPT is outside CCMT and JAAP, and it publishes no GATE cut-off. On 24 September 2026 it announced that it will accept qualifying GATE 2027 scores for 13 postgraduate programmes, subject to each programme’s eligibility. A candidate with a valid GATE score does not take the online CEPT PG Test; one without a qualifying score takes that test instead. GATE is then one input among several, not the whole merit list.
| Faculty | Programmes accepting GATE 2027 (official) | Count |
|---|---|---|
| Architecture | Architectural History and Research; Architectural Tectonics; Conservation and Regeneration; Housing Design; Interior Design; Landscape Architecture | 6 |
| Planning | Urban Design; Urban Infrastructure; Urban Planning; Urban Transport Systems | 4 |
| Technology | Building Energy Performance; Construction Engineering and Management; Structural Engineering Design | 3 |
| Item | What CEPT says |
|---|---|
| GATE papers (Building Energy Performance page) | AR, CE, ES, ME or EE |
| Without a qualifying GATE score | Take the online CEPT PG Test |
| Merit inputs | 10th and 12th (or diploma) marks, bachelor’s marks, work experience, online personal interview, achievements, and GATE score or CEPT PG Test |
| Stipend | No standard monthly stipend for GATE-qualified scholars; means- and merit-based scholarships and assistantships instead |
| GATE 2027 dates quoted | 27 Sep (regular) and 5 Oct (late fee), which is the older schedule; the GATE 2027 site now says 5 Oct and 12 Oct |
CEPT University news, 24 Sep 2026, and the M.Tech Building Energy Performance admissions page, checked 28 Sep 2026. Where CEPT and the GATE site disagree on dates, the GATE site is the authority.
Practise it, don't just read it
Moving from 44 to 54 marks is the difference between a last-round NIT seat and NIT Calicut. Our topic quizzes help you find where the ten marks are.
The ProSyllabus GATE Architecture and Planning library has ten 10-question topic quizzes today, among them Principles of Architectural Composition, Development Control and Zoning Regulations and Housing and Slum Improvement (Part A ground), History of Architecture, Climate and Solar Geometry, Structural Systems and Analysis and Building Materials and Properties (B1 ground), and Settlement Geography and Regional Theories and Water Supply and Sanitation Services (B2 ground). Every option comes with a worked explanation.
What GATE AR score is needed for M.Plan at an NIT?
In CCMT 2026 most NIT planning programmes closed for Open candidates at 350 to 410 in their last round, about 40 to 44 marks on the 2026 field. NIT Calicut closed higher, at 549 (about 53 marks).
What is the GATE cut-off for IIT Kharagpur M.Arch or MCP?
The 2026 General cut-offs printed by IIT Kharagpur for its architecture and regional planning codes were 656 (AR) and 620 (AR1), about 60 and 58 marks on the 2026 field.
Are IIT Roorkee M.Arch cut-offs raw GATE marks?
No. Roorkee publishes normalised marks on its own scale. Its 2026 MURP General figure (80.92) is above the highest raw AR mark of 2026 (80.33).
Is GATE compulsory for SPA Delhi M.Plan?
JAAP’s 2026 eligibility matrix lists a valid GATE AR score under “Desirable”. GATE, CEED or NET carries 35 of 100 merit points, so a candidate without it gives up a large share of the score.
Can a civil engineer take M.Plan through GATE?
Yes, many CCMT planning groups admit both AR and CE papers, and JAAP allows B.E. Civil with GATE CE for some planning programmes.
Does CEPT admit through GATE AR?
Yes, for selected programmes. On 24 September 2026 CEPT announced that qualifying GATE 2027 scores will be accepted for 13 postgraduate programmes in architecture, planning and technology, in place of its online CEPT PG Test. School marks, undergraduate marks, experience, an online interview and achievements also count, and CEPT pays no standard GATE stipend.
