It advertised 1,465 KVS PGT posts across twelve subjects, with registration opening at 10:00 am on 14 November 2025. No new PGT notification has been issued since.</p>

        <p>Separately from regular recruitment, individual Kendriya Vidyalayas engage PGTs on contract, with registration moved to a centralised Samvida Sathi portal. Reported contract remuneration for a PGT is Rs 27,500 a month at a normal station and Rs 32,500 at a hard station, with selection by written test and walk-in interview at the school concerned.</p>

        <p>The final merit list for PGT does not use the Tier-1 score at all. Notification 01/2025 shortlists candidates for interview at 1:3 and prepares the merit list by giving 85 per cent weightage to Tier-2 marks and 15 per cent to the interview, with Tier-1 serving only to screen candidates down to a 1:10 ratio.</p>

KVS PGT selection under Notification 01/2025 at a glance

Tier-1 carries three marks a question with one mark deducted for a wrong answer, and its six parts are General Reasoning, Numeric Ability, Basic Computer Literacy, General Knowledge, English language competency and a Modern Indian Language competency test. Tier-2 deducts 0.25 marks for a wrong objective answer and has no negative marking on the descriptive section.

This calendar is shared by every PGT subject in the recruitment, and by the TGT, PRT and non-teaching posts notified alongside them. The only stage that is now subject-specific is the phased release of Tier-2 results and interview schedules, which CBSE says will appear in candidate logins after the schedule is settled with KVS or NVS. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.

The single most important thing to understand about KVS PGT is that it is not an annual examination. It runs on one large notification issued at long intervals, and between those notifications there is nothing to apply for. On 22 September 2026 the KVS notifications page lists only deputation vacancies for engineers and administrative officers. The second most important thing is that Tier-1, which most candidates spend their time on, contributes nothing to the final merit.

Notification 01/2025 uses Tier-1 purely to screen candidates down to roughly ten per post. Once a candidate is through that gate, the Tier-1 mark is discarded: the merit list is built from 85 per cent of the Tier-2 subject score and 15 per cent of the interview. This has a direct planning consequence. Effort spent pushing a Tier-1 score from comfortable to excellent buys nothing beyond the shortlist, whereas the same hours spent on the subject paper convert directly into merit. Tier-1 still has to be taken seriously because a 1:10 screen in a subject with 100 posts eliminates the large majority of applicants, but it should be prepared to a threshold, not to a maximum.

The six parts of Tier-1 and what they cost

Tier-1 is 100 questions for 300 marks in two hours: General Reasoning 20 questions for 60 marks, Numeric Ability 20 for 60, Basic Computer Literacy 20 for 60, General Knowledge 20 for 60, English language competency 10 for 30 and a Modern Indian Language competency test 10 for 30. Each question is worth three marks and a wrong answer costs one, a ratio of three to one that makes informed guessing worthwhile but reckless guessing expensive. Notably, three-fifths of the paper is reasoning, arithmetic and computer literacy rather than teaching content, and the notification states that the expected level of knowledge in Tier-1 for PGT posts is post-graduation level.

Tier-2 has a descriptive half that behaves differently

Tier-2 is the subject paper: 60 objective questions for 60 marks plus 10 descriptive questions for 40 marks, in two and a half hours, part on OMR and part on paper. Forty of the hundred marks therefore come from written answers, which are not machine-marked and cannot be recovered by elimination. Objective errors cost 0.25 marks. Because Tier-2 supplies 85 per cent of the merit, the descriptive section alone is worth about 34 per cent of the final selection score, more than the entire interview. Candidates who prepare only for multiple choice, which is the habit formed during Tier-1, are underprepared for the part that carries the most weight per question.

Eligibility is stricter than it first reads

A PGT applicant needs a Master's degree from a recognised university with at least 50 per cent marks in the subject concerned, a B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised institution with at least 50 per cent marks, and proficiency to teach in both Hindi and English medium. Age must not exceed 40 years. The two separate 50 per cent thresholds catch people out: a strong Master's does not compensate for a B.Ed. below the mark, and the requirement is a floor on each qualification, not on an average. The subject-wise wording also matters, and is worth reading in the notification for the subject you intend to apply in rather than in summary.

There is currently no regular PGT vacancy to apply for. Two things are worth doing in the gap. First, complete and document eligibility, particularly the B.Ed. percentage and the Master's subject wording, because the application window in this recruitment was about three to four weeks and is not long enough to fix a qualification problem. Second, if teaching experience matters more than waiting, Kendriya Vidyalayas engage PGTs on contract through the Samvida Sathi portal, at a reported Rs 27,500 a month at a normal station, selected by written test and walk-in interview at the individual school. That is a different route with no bearing on regular selection, but it is open when the regular route is not.
