IIFT Admission 2026: The New CAT-Centric Strategy
Navigating the Transition from IIFT-NTA to CAT 2025/2026
⚠️ IMPORTANT: IIFT has discontinued its standalone entrance exam. Admission for the 2026-28 batch is strictly based on CAT 2025 scores followed by GD/PI.
1. The CAT Exam Day Blueprint
Since your IIFT dreams depend on your CAT performance, mastering the CAT interface is your first priority. CAT is a 120-minute exam with strict 40-minute sectional limits.
66Total Questions
198Total Marks
+3 / -1Marking Scheme
40 MinPer Section
2. IIFT Selection Stages (2026 Batch)
Stage 1: The Shortlist
Candidates are shortlisted based on their CAT percentile. For the Delhi campus, expect a cutoff of 95+ percentile; for Kolkata/Kakinada, it usually hovers around 90-93.
Stage 2: The Second Round (March 2026)Shortlisted candidates must appear for:
- Group Discussion (GD) / Extempore
- Writing Skills Assessment (WSA) / Essay Writing
- Personal Interview (PI)
3. Mandatory CAT Exam Day Checklist
To enter the hall for your "IIFT Gateway" (CAT), you must have:
| Admit Card | Hard copy (Color preferred) with photo pasted. |
| Valid Photo ID | Original Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN, or Passport. |
| Scribe Docs | If applicable, original PwD and Scribe certificates. |
| Self-Declaration | Printed on the admit card, to be signed in front of the invigilator. |
4. Dress Code & Security Protocols
The "Minimalist" Approach:
- Footwear: No shoes or boots. Wear simple sandals or slippers.
- Clothes: Plain T-shirts or shirts with no pockets or large buttons. Sweaters/Jackets are checked thoroughly (wear thin layers for winter slots).
- Jewelry: No rings, earrings, or metallic bands.
- Mehndi: Avoid applying Mehndi on hands as it interferes with biometric (fingerprint) scanning.
5. Strategic Tips for the IIFT Mindset
While the exam is CAT, IIFT looks for candidates with an interest in International Trade and Economics. During your preparation and subsequent PI rounds, keep these in mind:
- Data Interpretation: IIFT historically loved "calculation-heavy" DI. Focus on percentage growth, ratios, and complex table data in your CAT DILR section.
- RC Passages: Focus on passages related to global economics, business ethics, and sociology.
- GK (Post-Exam): Although CAT has no GK, the IIFT Personal Interview heavily tests your knowledge of current trade wars, WTO policies, and India's export-import scenario.
