Alerts and Updates for GATE Textile Engineering and Fibre Science

GATE 2027 is organized by IIT Madras; the official notification and brochure were released 20 July 2026 on gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The computer-based exam spans 30 test papers across six days — 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027 — and also introduces a new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper.

Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) is no longer offered as an independent GATE paper for 2027. IIT Madras's official GATE 2027 site confirms TF has been converted into section XE9 within the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper, so candidates wanting this subject must now appear for XE rather than a separate TF paper.

Under the restructured XE paper, every candidate attempts a compulsory Engineering Mathematics section (XE0, 15 marks) plus any two of nine optional sections worth 35 marks each; XE9 (Textile Engineering and Fibre Science) is one of the nine choices, alongside sections like Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science and a new Energy Science section.

A GATE 2027 syllabus-change analysis reports that within the Textile Engineering content now under XE9, emphasis has shifted toward Technical Textiles and Functional Fibres, while the previously separate Textile Testing topic has reportedly been dropped as a distinct area — worth confirming against the official XE syllabus PDF before exam prep.

GATE 2027 registration was postponed from an originally announced 14 August 2026 start; the GOAPS portal opened 27 August 2026, with the regular deadline 27 September 2026 and a late-fee window extending to 5 October 2026.

GATE 2027 has not been notified yet. IIT Madras is expected to be the organising institute, with the official notification and information brochure anticipated in late July or August 2026. Until that brochure appears on the official GATE portal, every 2027 date in circulation is tentative.

The GOAPS application window for GATE 2027 is expected to open around 24 August 2026, with the regular deadline in late September 2026 and an extended late-fee window running to mid-October 2026. A correction facility is expected in November 2026. None of this is officially confirmed yet.

GATE 2027 is expected on 6, 7, 13 and 14 February 2027 as a three-hour computer-based test in forenoon and afternoon sessions, with admit cards expected in early January 2027 and results in March 2027. These dates are listed as expected, not confirmed by the organising institute.

Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) keeps its three-part structure: General Aptitude 15 marks, Engineering Mathematics 13 marks and 72 marks of core subject across Textile Fibres, Yarn Manufacture, Yarn Structure and Properties, Fabric Manufacture, Textile Testing and Chemical Processing, over 65 questions in three hours.

No TF syllabus change has been announced for 2027, so the GATE 2026 TF syllabus and previous-year papers from IIT Guwahati remain the reference. TF Engineering Mathematics covers Linear Algebra, Calculus, Numerical Methods and Probability, and negative marking applies to MCQs only, not MSQ or NAT.
