Alerts and Updates for GATE Mining Engineering

GATE 2027 is organized by IIT Madras, whose official notification and brochure was released on 20 July 2026 at the gate2027.iitm.ac.in portal. Mining Engineering (MN) is one of 30 papers, held as a computer-based test on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027.

GOAPS registration for GATE 2027, originally planned for 14 August 2026, was postponed and opened on 27 August 2026 instead. The regular deadline without late fee is 27 September 2026, with a late-fee window until 5 October 2026; DigiLocker registration and live facial verification are now mandatory.

GATE Mining Engineering (MN) remains a 100-mark, 3-hour paper (MCQs, MSQs and NATs, negative marking only on MCQs) covering six sections: Engineering Mathematics, Mining Geology/Mine Development and Surveying, Geomechanics and Ground Control, Mining Methods and Machinery, Surface Environment/Mine Ventilation and Underground Hazards, and Mineral Economics/Mine Planning and Systems Engineering.

IIT Madras has not yet assigned the MN paper a specific date or session within the six exam days; this is expected to be confirmed only when admit cards are released. GATE 2027 results are scheduled for 19 March 2027, per the official portal.

GATE 2027 will be conducted by IIT Madras, but the official notification is still not out. As of July 11, 2026 reports point to a release in late July or August 2026, with the GOAPS application window expected to open around August 24, 2026 and close on September 29, 2026.

As per the tentative schedule circulating ahead of the notification, GATE 2027 is expected on February 6, 7, 13 and 14, 2027, as a three-hour computer-based test across 30 papers. The exact day and shift for the Mining Engineering (MN) paper will be confirmed only in the official IIT Madras brochure.

IIT Guwahati's official GATE 2026 cut-off table lists Mining Engineering (MN) qualifying marks as 29.5 for General, 26.5 for OBC-NCL and EWS, and 19.6 for SC, ST and PwD, noticeably higher than the 25.2 General cut-off in Mechanical Engineering the same year.

Coal India invited Mining Engineering graduates holding a valid GATE 2025 MN score to apply for 276 Management Trainee posts in E-1 grade. Applications closed on June 7, 2026 and shortlisting is based purely on the GATE Mining score, with no separate written examination.

NMDC recruits Executive Trainees on GATE scores in disciplines that include Mining Engineering, weighting the GATE score at 70 percent with group discussion and personal interview at 15 percent each. NLC India similarly fills Graduate Executive Trainee posts from GATE 2026 scores.
