Checked 28 September 2026. Dates from the GATE 2027 important-dates page (captured 28 Sep 2026) and brochure; syllabus from the official 2027 AR syllabus; mark anchors from the GATE 2026 report, CCMT 2026 and IIT Kharagpur 2026. The plan, hour shares and the marks conversions are ours.

From 28 September 2026 to the first GATE 2027 exam day, 6 February 2027, there are 131 days, about 19 weeks. AR’s own date is not yet published; it was 2 February in 2025 and 15 February in 2026, and the 2027 window runs to 21 February. This plan is built around the one fact that makes 2027 different: the restructured syllabus. Part A still carries 60 marks, but it now comes only from design and graphics, environmental planning and landscape, urban design and conservation, and town planning, housing and real estate. In 2023–2026 those areas supplied just 23 to 28 of Part A’s marks, so they need far more time than any past plan gave them. After that, the plan splits into a B1 (Architecture) and a B2 (Planning) track. You choose between B1 and B2 in the exam hall, so the plan asks you to pick early but keep a fallback.

Fees are per paper: ₹1,000 for women, SC, ST and PwD candidates and ₹2,000 for others (₹1,500 and ₹2,500 in the late period), per the GATE 2027 brochure. AR can be paired with CE or GE as a second paper; two papers cost ₹2,000 or ₹4,000 in the regular period and ₹3,000 or ₹5,000 in the late period (our arithmetic).

Mark targets tied to what they buy

Target marksWhat it meant in 2026GATE score, 2026 field (ours)
40Qualified (General); 1,979 of 8,415 appeared reached it350
44Around the top of the 350–410 band where most NIT planning seats closed in the last CCMT round411
50Top 655 of 8,415 appeared503
53.0–55.7NIT Calicut M.Plan, last round to Round 1 (549–590)549–590
57.7–60IIT Kharagpur ARP General cut-offs (620–656); 126 candidates reached 60620–656

Counts from the GATE 2026 statistical report; closing scores from CCMT 2026 and IIT Kharagpur 2026; conversions ours with Score = 350 + 550 × (M − 40) ÷ 35.97.

A practical reading: 50 is the target for most candidates; about 56 reached NIT Calicut’s 2026 Round 1, and about 58 to 60 matched IIT Kharagpur’s 2026 General cut-offs. The gap from 40 to 50 is ten marks, and the papers show where ten marks hide: the NAT and MSQ questions (no negative marks), the numericals that repeat every year, and the Part A lines that will now be asked more often.

The 19-week plan

WeeksDatesFocusOutput
1–228 Sep – 11 OctRegister before 5 Oct. Read the 2027 syllabus line by line. Sit the 2026 paper untimed, answering Part A, B1 and B2, and mark each mistake by its 2027 section.A list of weak 2027 sections; a provisional B1 or B2 choice
3–812 Oct – 22 NovPart A in depth. A.1: engineering curves, orthographic and isometric projection, perspective, sciography, proportion, accessibility norms. A.2: EIA, life cycle analysis, carbon footprint and credits, carrying capacity, planting design, historic gardens. A.3: urban-design theory and authors, FAR numericals, heritage charters, placemaking, form-based code. A.4: housing need and shortage, density numericals, URDPFI norms, real-estate feasibility and NPV.Notes and a formula sheet for all four sections; one topic quiz a day
9–1323 Nov – 27 DecYour B track (tables below), five weeks. Keep two Part A sessions a week.Every B section covered once, numericals practised
14–1628 Dec – 17 JanGeneral Aptitude daily. Solve the 2023, 2024 and 2025 papers under time, sorted by 2027 heading. Check your exam city on 4 Jan.Three timed papers; an error log
17–1918 Jan – 7 FebFull three-hour mocks twice a week; revise the error log and formula sheets; the week before your date, no new topics.Exam-ready; the B1 or B2 choice confirmed

Our plan. If AR is scheduled on 20 or 21 February, the last phase gains two weeks; spend them on mocks, not new topics.

Track B1: Architecture

WeekB1 sectionPast B1 marks 2023 / 24 / 25 / 26Focus
9B1.1 History and Theory7 / 9 / 6 / 6Architects and buildings; dome transitions; Indian and Western periods
10B1.3 Construction, Materials, Structures8 / 6 / 11 / 11Beam moment and deflection, elongation, bricks, shells and space frames
11B1.4 Building Services9 / 8 / 7 / 2Reverberation, lighting (lumen method), pumps, fire, HVAC principles
12B1.2 Climatology1 / 0 / 1 / 6Thermal comfort, solar geometry, passive design, energy audit, rating systems
13B1.6 Project Management and B1.5 Computer Applications0 / 2 / 0 / 0 (B1.6); none in B1 (B1.5), though old Part A asked 1 / 2 / 1 / 2 marks, including BIM in 2025CPM, PERT, crashing, depreciation, estimation (all asked in old Part A); BIM, parametric design

Marks in past B1 (Q50–Q65), our classification. B1.6 was asked mostly in old Part A: 7, 4, 7 and 8 marks in 2023–2026.

Track B2: Planning

WeekB2 sectionPast B2 marks 2023 / 24 / 25 / 26Focus
9B2.4 Urban Land Use and Transportation9 / 10 / 11 / 7Trip generation, four-stage model, speed-flow-density, PCU, TOD
10B2.2 Planning Policy and Practice8 / 5 / 7 / 4URDPFI plan hierarchy, 73rd and 74th Amendments, Census definitions
11B2.3 Infrastructure, Services and Utilitiesasked in old Part A: 11 / 6 / 11 / 6Runoff (rational formula), water demand, sewer design, composting, solid-waste rules, power-distribution basics
12B2.1 Planning History, Theory, Techniques and B2.5 Data, RS, GIS2 / 8 / 4 / 0 (B2.1); 4 / 0 / 3 / 4 (B2.5)Population projection, Ekistics, Gini and Lorenz, NDVI, regression, ANOVA, AHP, SQL, Python basics
13B2.6 Project Implementation and Financing0 / 2 / 0 / 5Municipal finance, bonds and credit rating, PPP types, cost-benefit analysis

Marks in past B2 (Q66–Q81), our classification; B2.3 figures are the marks it drew in old Part A.

Choosing: most B.Arch graduates take B1 and most B.Plan graduates B2, but look at your diagnostic from weeks 1–2, not your degree. If your weak areas are structures and services numericals, B2 may cost you less; if they are transport models and statistics, B1 may. Because the choice is made in the hall, solve both B parts in every full paper you attempt, and decide which to answer after reading both, in the first minutes of the B section.

Your hours

BlockShare of study hours (ours)
Part A: A.1 to A.4 (60 marks)45%
Your B part: B1 or B2 (25 marks)25%
Previous papers and full mocks20%
General Aptitude (15 marks)10%

Our split: Part A is 60% of the marks and the least practised area under the 2027 syllabus, so it gets the largest share.

Practise it, don't just read it

A topic quiz a day through weeks 3–13 keeps each section honest. Our library covers composition, zoning, housing, history, climate, structures, materials, water supply and settlement theory.

The ProSyllabus GATE Architecture and Planning library has ten 10-question topic quizzes today, among them Principles of Architectural Composition, Development Control and Zoning Regulations and Housing and Slum Improvement (Part A ground), History of Architecture, Climate and Solar Geometry, Structural Systems and Analysis and Building Materials and Properties (B1 ground), and Settlement Geography and Regional Theories and Water Supply and Sanitation Services (B2 ground). Every option comes with a worked explanation.

How many days are left for GATE AR 2027?

From 28 September 2026 to the first exam day, 6 February 2027, there are 131 days. AR’s own date has not been published; the exam window runs to 21 February 2027.

What is the last date to register for GATE 2027?

Regular registration closes on 5 October 2026 and registration with the late fee on 12 October 2026, per the GATE 2027 important-dates page.

How many marks should I target in GATE AR 2027?

Forty qualifies (General) if the cap binds again. Fifty put you in the top 655 in 2026 and above most NIT planning last-round closings; 58 to 60 matched IIT Kharagpur’s General cut-offs.

Should I choose B1 or B2 in GATE AR?

Choose by your diagnostic, not your degree alone. You pick in the exam hall, so practise both and decide after reading both sections.

Is four months enough for GATE AR?

For a B.Arch or B.Plan graduate, yes, if the time goes to the 2027 Part A sections first, then one B track, then timed papers. The plan above fits 19 weeks.

Which topics are new in GATE AR 2027 Part A?

Among others: engineering curves, projections and sciography; EIA, carbon credits and carrying capacity; placemaking and form-based code; housing shortage, incremental housing and real-estate feasibility.
