DHA pharmacist exam at a glance
| Item | Reported detail | Source type |
|---|---|---|
| Assessment modality | Computer-based test at Prometric; oral assessment possible at DHA discretion | DHA manual (official) / Edoxi |
| Questions and duration | 150 MCQs in 165 minutes (Edoxi); 150 MCQs in 3 hours (Academically); about 2.5 to 3 hours (Interface) | Coaching and consultancy, disputed |
| Pass mark | 60 per cent, that is 90 of 150, per Edoxi; Academically also states 60 per cent for pharmacists | Consultancy, not regulator-published |
| Qualification | B.Pharm, M.Pharm or Pharm.D from an accredited institution; pharmacy diploma not accepted | Edoxi (training provider) |
| Experience | Two years post-qualification reported by both Edoxi and Interface; the binding rule is PQR version three | Coaching sites; PQR is official |
| Attempts | Three attempts; third failure blocks DHA reapplication for two years | DHA manual (official) |
Only the attempt limit, the PSV delegation and the five-year same-title exemption in this table come from a DHA document. The question count, timing, pass mark and experience figures come from training providers and consultancies, and they do not agree with one another on duration or on fees. Read your own Sheryan eligibility notice as the controlling statement.
Dates and windows
| What | When | Status |
|---|---|---|
| DHA pharmacist assessment sitting | Rolling — book on demand at a Prometric centre once eligibility is issued | Rolling |
| Sheryan application and self-assessment | Any time; opens the file that produces the eligibility to test | Rolling |
| Primary source verification of degree and experience | Runs in parallel, handled by DHA's delegated verification agency | Rolling |
| Gap between failed attempts | 90 days between sittings, as reported by Edoxi | Tentative |
| Block after a third failure | Two years before a DHA licence may be sought again | Confirmed |
| Same-title assessment exemption | Five years from registration, provided no gap in practice | Confirmed |
| National unified licensing platform go-live | Reported as expected in Q2 2026; no regulator confirmation of pharmacist cutover seen | Tentative |
There is no examination calendar for this licence. Sittings are booked on demand after verification and eligibility, so the only real deadlines are the ones your own file generates. The 90-day retake interval is a consultancy figure and should be checked against the message Prometric sends after a failed attempt.
What this means for your preparation
The commonest mistake is treating the exam as the gate. It is not. Primary source verification is the gate, and the assessment only becomes bookable once DHA has accepted the verified file and issued eligibility. Candidates who buy question banks before opening a Sheryan file routinely find their degree or experience letters rejected months later, long after the study effort is spent.
Sequence the pathway, do not parallelise it
The order that actually works is: open the Sheryan account and complete the self-assessment, submit qualification and experience documents for primary source verification through DHA's delegated agency, receive eligibility, book the Prometric sitting, pass, then have a licensed employer activate the licence. DHA's manual is explicit that PSV covers both qualification and employment documents, which is why an experience letter without an official letterhead, dates and a verifiable contact stalls the whole file. Nothing after verification can be brought forward. Budget the verification window first and treat the exam booking as the last controllable step, not the first.
Three attempts, then a two-year door
DHA's own manual states three attempts at the assessment modality and a two-year block on reapplying for a DHA licence after the third failure. That is a materially harsher consequence than in most Gulf regimes, and it should change how a candidate paces the attempt. A 90-day interval between sittings is reported by Edoxi but is not in the manual, so confirm it from your own result notice. The practical implication is that sitting early to see the paper is a bad trade in Dubai, because the third strike costs two years rather than another fee.
Do not trust a single fee quotation
Edoxi puts the total pathway at about AED 2,800 to 3,200, split into an application fee of AED 1,000 to 1,100, verification of AED 935 to 1,235, a Prometric fee of AED 800 to 1,028 and a licensing fee of AED 800 to 900. Academically states AED 3,500 to 4,000 for the same journey, with a licence activation of AED 1,200. The gap is roughly a quarter of the total. Neither is a DHA schedule. Treat the higher figure as the planning number, keep a contingency for an oral assessment, and read the fee shown inside Sheryan at the moment of payment as the only binding one.
Study to the PQR, not to a blog syllabus
The Professional Qualification Requirements, now in their third version and jointly owned by MOHAP, DOH, DHA and the Sharjah Health Authority, define the educational, experience and licensure standard against which a pharmacist file is assessed. Content weightings circulated by training providers, for example pharmaceutical care and disease-state management at 35 per cent and calculations and compounding at 15 per cent, come from Edoxi and are not a regulator blueprint. Use them for time allocation if you wish, but verify the eligibility conditions against the PQR, because it is the PQR that decides whether your degree and years of practice are acceptable at all.
What the unified platform does and does not change
MoHAP's announcement describes a national platform that registers a practitioner once and issues a standardised licence valid across the UAE, and Gulf News reported a Q2 2026 go-live spanning MoHAP, DOH, DHA and Sharjah. That quarter has passed without a regulator page seen here confirming that pharmacist applications have moved. Until such a confirmation appears, apply through Sheryan for Dubai in the normal way. The likely near-term effect is fewer duplicated document submissions when moving between emirates, not an automatic right to practise everywhere on one existing DHA licence.
Common questions
Can I work anywhere in the UAE with a DHA pharmacist licence?
Not today. A DHA licence authorises practice in Dubai. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are regulated by DOH, and the northern emirates by MoHAP, with the Sharjah Health Authority also named as a separate regulator in the PQR and in the Gulf News report on the unified platform. MoHAP's platform announcement describes a standardised licence valid across the UAE as the intended outcome, and Gulf News reported a Q2 2026 go-live. Nothing seen confirms that cross-emirate portability is live for pharmacists, so plan on licensing with the regulator for the emirate you will actually work in.
How many questions is the DHA pharmacist exam and how long is it?
There is no DHA-published figure in the sources seen. Edoxi, a Dubai training provider, states 150 multiple-choice questions in 165 minutes with no negative marking. Academically, a consultancy, states 150 questions in three hours. Interface, a coaching site, says only about two and a half to three hours. DHA's own manual says the assessment may be a computer-based test or an oral assessment depending on the applied position. Plan for 150 questions and a three-hour slot, and confirm the exact timing from your Prometric confirmation.
What is the pass mark?
Edoxi states 60 per cent, which it works out as 90 correct answers from 150, and Academically also lists 60 per cent for pharmacists. Interface phrases it as typically around 60 per cent and adds that it may vary slightly by assessment standard. None of these is a DHA publication, and DHA's licensing manual seen here does not print a cut score. Because the consequence of a third failure is a two-year block on reapplying, aim comfortably above 60 per cent rather than at it.
How long is a DHA pharmacist pass valid?
DHA's licensing manual exempts from reassessment anyone who passed a DHA assessment for the same title within five years of obtaining registration, provided there is no gap in practice. Edoxi states a five-year result validity, which is consistent. The two conditions matter as much as the five years: the exemption is tied to the same professional title and to continuous practice, so a change of title or a career break can put you back into the assessment even inside the window.
Do I need two years of experience to sit it?
Both Edoxi and Interface state a minimum of two years of post-qualification pharmacy practice, with Edoxi adding a preference for at least six months in a hospital setting. The binding standard is the third version of the Professional Qualification Requirements, jointly issued by MOHAP, DOH, DHA and Sharjah, which DOH's page confirms is the framework for education, experience and licensure. Note that for nurses the third PQR version is reported to have removed the two-year rule at entry grade, so check the pharmacist entry in the current PQR rather than assuming the old figure.
What happens if I fail three times?
DHA's licensing manual states that failure to pass at the third attempt blocks the applicant from reapplying for a DHA licence for two years. Edoxi reports a 90-day wait between attempts, which is not stated in the manual. This is the single most consequential rule in the pathway, and it is why sitting an unprepared first attempt to sample the format is a poor decision in Dubai specifically. Verification and eligibility remain valid work already done, but the block applies to the licence application itself.
