- Focus on what matters most: develop a vision, explore future scenarios, respond to change and set strategies to serve the Bank's purpose, working together. ("Focusing on what matters most.")
How Bank of England Future Talent selection works
- The process
- An application form and three assessed stages, the same for apprentices, interns, industrial placements and graduates. One application per candidate: the Bank accepts only your first. Applicants through the Disability Confident scheme who meet the minimum requirements are fast-tracked to the video interview.
- Stage 1: online test
- A situational judgement test with scenarios from working life at the Bank, which helps it understand how closely you align with its values.
- Stage 2: video interview
- Recorded and reviewed later. After each question you have a short period to think before recording starts; every question has a set time limit and the recording stops. Answers should be well structured and succinct. You cannot re-record.
- Stage 3: virtual assessment centre
- One group exercise and one interview. The interviewers ask motivation, behaviour-based and analytical/technical questions.
- Excel test
- Applicants to the Economist or Data streams of the Industrial Placement Programme also complete an online Excel test.
- STARR
- The Bank says it uses the STARR interview method: situation, task, action, result, reflection.
- 2027 round
- The Bank's graduate programmes page says applications are closed and you can register your interest for its 2027 opportunities; it said it would update its programme pages in autumn 2026, ahead of the 2027 round.

Questions
Is this from the Bank of England?
No. ProSyllabus is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by the Bank of England. The questions, briefs, data and answers are our own, built on what the Bank publishes about its process and its Bank Behaviours. Read the Bank's own pages too (linked below).
Are these the questions the Bank asks?
No. Our questions and group-exercise briefs are our own invented practice material, built on what the Bank says it looks for; the 3 minutes per question in our drills is our own practice timing.
How is my answer judged?
Each question has our own list of practice points: one specific example, your own actions, the Bank Behaviour it shows, the result and your reflection (the Bank's STARR). For analytical questions, the method and the right number. An automated marker checks your typed answer against every point, in about a minute, and any credit it gives quotes your own words. It can miss something valid or credit something it should not, so treat it as practice feedback and compare with the model answer, STAR frame or worked example. The band (strong, solid, developing) is our own guide, not an assessor's mark or a prediction.
Does typing prepare me for a recorded video interview?
It practises the hard part: choosing one specific example and fitting it into a set time. Say each answer aloud as you type it, then record yourself once on your phone with a timer, because the real interview gives you one take.
I am applying for a placement or internship, not the graduate programme.
The Bank says the standard process is the same for apprentices, interns, industrial placements and graduates, so the SJT, video interview and assessment-centre practice all apply. The Bank also sets an online Excel test for the Economist and Data placement streams; this kit does not include Excel practice.
I already bought the SJT kit.
The SJT practice stays yours. The complete kit is for buying both together in one purchase.
Can I try it first?
Yes. One video interview question is free and gets the full feedback, with no sign-up.
