SSC MTS 2026 Notification: Status, Calendar Dates and What to Expect

Checked 25 September 2026. From SSC’s MTS 2024 and 2025 notices, schedule and result notices, vacancy files and SSC’s calendar entries. Status checked on 25 September 2026; the 2026 notice may appear at any time.

The Staff Selection Commission names the MTS exam after the year of its notice, not the year it is sat — and that alone explains most of the confusion online. The “MTS and Havaldar Examination, 2025”, notified in June 2025, was actually sat in February 2026, and its final result has still not been published. The 2026 exam was listed in SSC’s calendar for an advertisement on 30 June 2026, but by 25 September 2026 no notice had appeared. This guide sets out exactly where both cycles stand, how far recent cycles slipped from their calendar dates, and what the vacancy numbers have been.

Where SSC MTS stands today

SSC documents: MTS 2025 notice 26.06.2025; CBE 04–20.02.2026; Havaldar CBE result 03.08.2026; PET/PST 24–31.08.2026; “First Round of Tentative Allocation result for both the posts” “at later stage after completion of PET/PST”. SSC’s calendar entry for MTS 2026: advertisement 30.06.2026, closing 31.07.2026, CBE September–November 2026 — not notified as of 25 September 2026.

Where other pages get this wrong

The result SSC declared on 3 August 2026 was the MTS 2025 CBE result to shortlist Havaldar candidates for the physical tests — not a final result, and it has no MTS cut-offs.

Commonly published instead: “SSC MTS Final Cut Off 2026 released” and “SSC has released the SSC MTS Cut Off 2026 along with the final result”.

SSC write-up of 03.08.2026, para 5: the “First Round of Tentative Allocation result for both the posts” will be declared “at later stage after completion of PET/PST”.

The 2025 exam slipped four months against its notice: planned for September–October 2025, it was held in February 2026. The final result was still pending in late September 2026, fifteen months after the notice. The 2024 cycle, by contrast, ran from notice to final result in about eight and a half months. Anyone who applied in June 2025 is still waiting to know whether they have a job.

SSC MTS 2024 notices and result write-ups. One answer-key write-up gives the CBE end as 19.11.2024; the schedule and results say 14.11.2024.

The two cycles followed the same order — written test, Havaldar result, physical test, final result — but at very different speeds. In 2024 the final result came five months after the written test ended; in the 2025 cycle, seven months after the test, the final result was still pending. The Havaldar physical test is the step that decides when both lists appear, because SSC says the first allocation result for MTS and Havaldar will be declared together after PET/PST.

Why the 2026 date is uncertain

SSC’s calendar listed the 2026 MTS advertisement for 30 June 2026, closing 31 July, with the exam in September–November 2026. The calendar has not proved a reliable clock: the CHSL 2026 notice, calendared for 30 April 2026, actually came on 7 September 2026, and the MTS 2025 exam was calendared for September–October 2025 and sat in February 2026. There is no SSC notice postponing MTS 2026 either — it is simply late against the calendar. Any date for the 2026 notice quoted online is a guess until SSC publishes it.

Vacancies over five cycles

SSC MTS and Havaldar vacancies by exam

2023 (revised final)1,788
2024 (final)11,518
2025 (tentative)7,948

SSC vacancy files and result write-ups.

Vacancies swing enormously — from 1,788 in the 2023 exam to 11,518 in 2024 — so a guide quoting “expected 2026 vacancies” is guessing. The 7,948 figure that some sites present as the 2026 number is the 2025 exam’s tentative count as on 27 November 2025 (MTS 6,810 and Havaldar 1,138). Even that is not settled: the Havaldar vacancy row in SSC’s 03.08.2026 CBE result counts 1,018 across its five community columns (EWS 120, SC 126, ST 87, OBC 237, UR 448), and SSC has not reconciled that with the 1,138. The 2023 figure also moved twice in December 2023.

What to do while waiting

The pattern of the exam has been the same in 2024 and 2025 — 90 questions in two 45-minute sessions — so preparation does not depend on the notice. Eligibility needs only Class 10, but the age limit depends on the post: 18–25 for MTS, 18–27 for Havaldar and a few MTS posts, counted on 1 August in both recent cycles — so check your date of birth against the group for the post you want now; our eligibility guide does this. Three things from the 2025 cycle are worth acting on early. Applications go through One-Time Registration on ssc.gov.in, which the notice required every applicant to create on the new website. Once the notice appears, the application window has been about four weeks. And after applying, watch for the slot-selection notice: in 2025 a candidate who neither picked a slot (16–25 January 2026) nor confirmed through the Feedback Module by 28 January 2026 got no admit card.
