OPRA Exam Total Cost in Rupees: Eligibility Check, Exam, Skills Assessment

Checked 2 November 2026. APC fees are from the Australian Pharmacy Council's Fees and Knowledge Stream pages as read on 2 November 2026; APC can change them. Rupee figures are our arithmetic at the Reserve Bank of Australia rate for 30 October 2026 (₹67.05 per AUD); the rate moves and your actual rupee debit may differ.

The Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) charges AUD 810 for the eligibility check, AUD 2,245 for each OPRA exam attempt and AUD 300 for the Skills Assessment Outcome you can request after you pass: AUD 3,355 in all if you pass first time and request that outcome. At the Reserve Bank of Australia rate for 30 October 2026 (₹67.05 per Australian dollar), that is about ₹2,24,953, roughly ₹2.25 lakh, before any bank charges; each re-sit adds about ₹1,50,527.

Those three fees total AUD 3,355 if you pass on your first attempt and request a Skills Assessment Outcome, which APC says you need to support a visa application. What you finally pay in rupees depends on the day's exchange rate and your card, so below you will find each fee in rupees, a what-if table for other rates, a calculator, how APC lets you pay from India, the fees that can push the total up, the costs that sit outside APC, and three worked examples.

OPRA exam fees in rupees: the three APC fees

APC lists the cost of the Knowledge Stream skills assessment, the pathway that includes OPRA, as three fees on its Knowledge Stream page and its Fees page. The rupee column is our conversion at one rate on one day, rounded to the nearest rupee, so you can see the size of each payment. It is not what your bank will debit.

The exam is about two-thirds of the total (2,245 of 3,355). APC fees; rupees at ₹67.05 per AUD.

The three payments are not made together. You pay the eligibility check when you apply. You pay the exam fee only after APC has emailed you that you are eligible, at the moment you register for a sitting; if the payment does not go through, APC releases your seat. You pay for the Skills Assessment Outcome only after you pass, when you request it in the Candidate Portal. APC says you need that outcome to support a visa application with the Department of Home Affairs; APC's pages do not say every successful candidate must request one, so check your own circumstances with APC, Ahpra and Home Affairs.

Which exchange rate we used, and why your bank's may differ

We used the Reserve Bank of Australia's published rate for 30 October 2026: ₹67.05 per Australian dollar (it was ₹66.92 on 28 October and ₹67.20 on 29 October). We use the RBA figure only as a published reference for this illustration; the RBA warns that its data should not be relied upon for regulatory or commercial purposes. Your actual rupee debit may differ. Check with your card issuer which exchange rate and conversion date apply, whether it charges a foreign-currency markup or other fees, and whether GST applies to those fees. You pay APC at separate stages, so the exchange rate may differ for each payment.

To see how much the rate matters, here is the same set of fees at three rates. ₹65 and ₹70 are what-if figures, not forecasts.

Rupees per AUDPass first time, with outcome (AUD 3,355)One re-sit, with outcome (AUD 5,600)Each extra attempt (AUD 2,245)
₹65 (what if)₹2,18,075₹3,64,000₹1,45,925
₹67.05 (RBA, 30 October 2026)₹2,24,953₹3,75,480₹1,50,527
₹70 (what if)₹2,34,850₹3,92,000₹1,57,150

A swing of ₹5 per Australian dollar moves the first-time total by about ₹16,775. That change is less than the ₹1,50,527 reference cost of another attempt, the single biggest thing that changes your total.

Calculator: your OPRA total at your bank's rate

OPRA cost calculator: your total in rupees

Enter the rupees-per-AUD rate before any separately charged markup, and the markup only if it is not already included in that rate. If your bank quotes an all-inclusive rate, enter that rate and leave the markup at 0. The calculator adds APC's fees for the number of OPRA attempts you plan for. It excludes GST on bank fees and any other separately charged fees.

APC fees from the APC Fees page, read 2 November 2026. The default rate is the Reserve Bank of Australia's rate for 30 October 2026. Your actual rupee debit may differ; check with your card issuer.

If you do not know your card's markup, look for "foreign currency transaction fee" or "cross-currency markup" in your bank's schedule of charges, or ask the bank. Leave the markup at 0 to see the plain conversion.

How you pay APC from India

  • Pay only in the APC Candidate Portal. APC asks candidates not to make payments for its services or exams outside the portal; it is the only way to apply for an eligibility check or book an exam.
  • APC prices and charges in Australian dollars. It accepts Visa or Mastercard credit or debit cards and offers Google Pay and Apple Pay at checkout in the Candidate Portal. APC lists no other card networks, so check that your card is Visa or Mastercard and enabled for international online payments.
  • APC says it can only accept a card issued by a bank in your country of residence. If you live in India, use an Indian-issued card: under that rule a card from a bank abroad, such as an overseas relative's card, is not accepted. APC asks you to contact it if a payment fails.
  • The exam fee is due at registration. If payment is not received, APC releases your seat, and some test centres fill fast.
  • If you use a migration agent, APC asks that they be registered with OMARA (the Office of Migration Agents Registration Authority). APC's fees are still paid in the Candidate Portal, so be wary of anyone who asks you to pay them an "APC fee" directly.

Fees that can push the total up

The first-time total assumes everything goes to plan. These are the APC charges that can add to it, all from the APC Fees page:

SituationAPC charge≈ RupeesHow to avoid it
You do not pass and sit againAUD 2,245 per attempt (the full fee each time)₹1,50,527Prepare across the official content areas and topic weights; sit when your practice scores are steady
APC asks for more documents and you miss the 6-month (180-day) limitRe-apply and pay AUD 810 again₹54,311Upload complete documents and NAATI translations first time
Your skills have changed since your last assessmentAUD 610 per updated skills assessment request₹40,901Only needed if your situation changes
An external organisation no longer considers your outcome valid because its issue date has expired, or something significant has changed since APC issued itAUD 300 per Skills Assessment Outcome request₹20,115Check the receiving organisation's validity rules; Home Affairs sets validity for visa applications
You cancel a booked examA deduction from the exam fee; the refund depends on timing and APC's approval (table below)Depends on timingReschedule inside the registration period instead

Two things cost nothing: APC does not charge a fee for appeals, and the eligibility check has no expiry, so you do not pay for it again before a re-sit. APC's Work Experience Reference (AUD 200) is not available for the Knowledge Stream, so it does not apply to OPRA candidates.

Refunds if you cancel the exam

Only exam fees can be refunded; the eligibility check and the Skills Assessment Outcome cannot. You cancel in the Candidate Portal and give a reason, and every refund is subject to APC's approval. APC also says an approved request may receive a full or partial refund. The table shows APC's exact wording on the Fees page and our arithmetic for its stated deductions:

Timing (APC wording)What APC saysOur arithmetic
"If you cancel 5 days prior to the exam date""there is a $100 cancellation fee" (AUD)You get back AUD 2,145 of 2,245 (≈ ₹1,43,822)
"If you cancel from 5 days up until 2 weeks after the exam date"A partial refund of 80% of the OPRA exam feeYou get back AUD 1,796 (≈ ₹1,20,422) and lose AUD 449 (≈ ₹30,105)
"2 weeks after your exam session ends""We will not accept refund requests"Nothing back

The first two rows meet at the 5-day point, so if your date is close to it, confirm the amount with APC before you cancel. APC asks for supporting documents if you cancel on or after the scheduled exam date. Ask APC and your card issuer how a refund would be processed and converted; do not assume the rupee credit will match your original payment. You can change your exam date and time in the Candidate Portal only while the registration period is open; for the dates of each window see our OPRA exam dates 2027 guide.

Costs outside APC

APC's fees are only part of moving to practise in Australia. These costs are real but are not set by APC, so we give the official places to check them rather than figures:

  • Translations: APC generally requires a full English translation of each non-English document by a NAATI-accredited translator, uploaded with the original. It accepts an extract translation only if an Australian Government department, such as Home Affairs, provided it. For your syllabus, APC asks for the full original without translation and, if possible, NAATI translations of the complete subject list and brief subject summaries. Ask your translator for a quote before budgeting.
  • Getting to the test centre: OPRA is sat at a computer at a test centre. APC lists centres in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, Noida and surrounding areas, so add travel and perhaps a night's stay if you live elsewhere.
  • Registration in Australia: after a pass you apply to the Pharmacy Board of Australia through Ahpra for provisional registration and supervised practice. Check the Pharmacy Board's registration fees page and its guidance for internationally qualified pharmacists, and ask Ahpra which requirements apply to you.
  • Later exams: APC's Fees page lists an Australian Intern Written exam at AUD 790 per attempt (≈ ₹52,970) for candidates who hold provisional registration from the Pharmacy Board. Ask Ahpra which later assessments apply to you before you budget.
  • Visa: check the Department of Home Affairs' visa fees and charges page for the costs that apply to you. APC says Home Affairs sets the validity period of your Skills Assessment Outcome for visa applications.
  • Optional courses: APC mentions courses from the Australasian College of Pharmacy and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia for overseas-trained pharmacists, and says they are not mandatory.

Three worked examples

1. Passing first time. A pharmacist in Pune lodges the eligibility check in December 2026 (AUD 810, ≈ ₹54,311), registers for the March 2027 sitting in January (AUD 2,245, ≈ ₹1,50,527) and, after passing, requests the Skills Assessment Outcome in May (AUD 300, ≈ ₹20,115). APC total: AUD 3,355, about ₹2,24,953 at ₹67.05. With a card that adds a 3.5% markup (an example figure; check yours), the same fees come to about ₹2,32,826, plus any GST on the bank's fee.

2. One re-sit. The same candidate is unsuccessful in March, registers again for July 2027 and passes. The eligibility check does not expire, so it is not paid again, but the full exam fee is. APC total: AUD 5,600, about ₹3,75,480 at ₹67.05. The second attempt alone costs more than the eligibility check and the Skills Assessment Outcome put together.

3. Cancelling close to the exam. A candidate with an exam appointment in the 22 to 24 March 2027 session falls ill and cancels 3 days before the appointment. That is inside APC's "from 5 days up until 2 weeks after the exam date" band, so APC (if it approves) refunds 80% of the exam fee: AUD 1,796, about ₹1,20,422. They lose AUD 449, about ₹30,105, then pay the full AUD 2,245 again to register for July. For an earlier cancellation, confirm the refund with APC first; its page does not clearly define that timing band.

Keep the biggest cost down: try the format first

Since each attempt costs about ₹1,50,527, the best saving is not a cheaper rate but not needing a second attempt. Common mistakes

  • Budgeting only the exam fee. The eligibility check and the Skills Assessment Outcome add AUD 1,110 (≈ ₹74,426).
  • Converting at the rate you see in a search result. Your actual rupee debit may differ; ask your card issuer for its rate and fees and use them in the calculator.
  • Paying an APC fee anywhere except the APC Candidate Portal. APC asks candidates not to make payments for its services or exams outside the portal.
  • Using a card issued abroad while living in India. APC says the card must be issued by a bank in your country of residence.
  • Letting a request for more documents run past 6 months, which means re-applying and paying AUD 810 again.
  • Cancelling late instead of rescheduling early. You can reschedule in the portal, but only while the registration period is open, and APC's fee list includes no rescheduling fee; cancellation refunds depend on timing and APC's approval.
  • Relying on old KAPS-era fee posts. Check APC's current fees; our KAPS to OPRA guide explains the change.

The cheapest OPRA is the one you pass first time

If you register for another attempt after an unsuccessful result, you pay the full AUD 2,245 again, about ₹1,50,527 at the rate above. Our OPRA Exam Mock Test is independent exam-style practice: each mock is full length, 120 questions in 150 minutes, in APC's five content areas and topic weights, with an explanation for every answer and a score breakdown by area, so you can see where you stand before you pay to register.

Frequently asked questions

What is the OPRA exam fee in Indian rupees?

APC charges AUD 2,245 per OPRA attempt. At the Reserve Bank of Australia rate for 30 October 2026 (₹67.05 per AUD) that is about ₹1,50,527, before any bank charges. APC charges in Australian dollars, so the rupee amount moves with the exchange rate.

What is the total cost of the OPRA pathway in rupees?

APC's three fees are AUD 810 (eligibility check), AUD 2,245 (exam) and AUD 300 (Skills Assessment Outcome, requested after a pass to support a visa application), AUD 3,355 in all if you pass first time and request the outcome. That is about ₹2,24,953 at ₹67.05 per AUD. Registration, visa, translation and travel costs are extra and are not set by APC.

How much is the APC eligibility check fee in rupees?

AUD 810 per request, about ₹54,311 at ₹67.05 per AUD. It is non-refundable but has no expiry, so you do not pay it again for a re-sit.

Do I pay the full fee again if I fail OPRA?

Yes. APC says you pay the full registration fee again when you register for the next exam period, AUD 2,245 (about ₹1,50,527). You may re-sit as many times as you need, and you do not repeat the eligibility check.

Can I pay the OPRA fee with an Indian debit card or UPI?

APC takes payment only in its Candidate Portal. Its pages list Visa or Mastercard credit or debit cards, with Google Pay and Apple Pay at checkout; UPI is not listed. APC says your card must be issued by a bank in your country of residence. Check with your card issuer whether it permits this international online payment.

Does the OPRA fee include GST or bank charges?

APC lists its fees in Australian dollars and says nothing about Indian charges. Check with your card issuer whether it charges a foreign-currency markup or other fees, and whether GST applies to them.

Can I get a refund of the OPRA exam fee?

Only the exam fee can be refunded, subject to APC's approval. APC's wording: if you cancel 5 days prior to the exam date there is an AUD 100 cancellation fee; from 5 days up until 2 weeks after the exam date you get 80% back. APC will not accept refund requests 2 weeks after your exam session ends. The two bands overlap at the 5-day point, so confirm the refund with APC if your cancellation is near that boundary.

Is the Skills Assessment Outcome fee compulsory?

The Skills Assessment Outcome costs AUD 300 per request after you pass. APC says you need it to support a visa application with the Department of Home Affairs. APC's pages do not say every successful candidate must request one, so check your own circumstances with APC, Ahpra and Home Affairs.

Which exchange rate should I use for the OPRA fees?

For a budget, a published reference rate is fine; this guide uses the Reserve Bank of Australia rate for 30 October 2026, ₹67.05 per AUD. For a closer estimate, use your card issuer's AUD rate in the calculator on this page, entering a markup only if it is not already included, and allow separately for charges the calculator excludes.

Are there APC fees for appeals?

No. APC says it does not charge a fee for appeals. Its appeals process covers matters other than the calculation of results.
