NSNIS 2026 Entrance Guide: Exam Pattern, Physical Test & Interview Tips
A detailed guide for the NIS Patiala Diploma in Sports Coaching entrance exam, covering NTA theory syllabus, fitness norms, and mandatory documents.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the theory portion as a Computer Based Test (CBT). You have 60 minutes to answer 60 questions. Precision is key as your rank here determines if you move to the interview stage.
Passing the written test only earns you an interview. Final admission is subject to qualifying the physical fitness norms at the respective SAI centers (Patiala, Bangalore, Kolkata, or Trivandrum).
- 30m/50m Sprint: Tests explosive speed.
- Standing Broad Jump: Tests leg power.
- 1000m/1600m Run: Tests cardiovascular endurance.
Since the NIS exam day often involves transitioning from a computer lab to a sports field, your kit bag should be professionally packed:
- CBT Attire: Light-colored half-sleeve T-shirt and track pants (avoid heavy denim).
- Field Kit: Proper sports uniform for your specific discipline (e.g., singlet for wrestling, whites for cricket).
- Footwear: Running shoes for the fitness test and specialized shoes (spikes/studs) for game trials. Note: Shoes are not allowed in the CBT hall.
- Personal Gear: Your own rackets, bats, or guards. NIS does not provide personal sports equipment for the proficiency test.
Identity verification at SAI centers is military-grade. Keep these originals ready:
- Admit Card: Printed copy with the NTA undertaking.
- Sports Certificates: Original National/University/State participation certificates.
- Educational Docs: 10th, 12th, and Graduation mark sheets (as per your category).
- NOC: A 'No Objection Certificate' from your employer if you are currently working.
The interview is usually conducted in a 1:3 ratio. The panel includes senior coaches and sports scientists.
- Technical Knowledge: Be ready to explain the latest rules of your sport as per International Federations.
- Coaching Philosophy: Why do you want to be a coach? How do you handle athlete psychology?
- Recent Trends: Be aware of the 2024 Paris Olympics results and the 2026 Asian Games preparations.
