The university admissions portal at admissions.keralauniversity.ac.in was reachable and is the source for the stage and vacancy dates above. The structural figures, the index-mark basis and the fee amounts come from CollegeDekho and are labelled as such because they were not confirmed against a fetched university prospectus: the PG CSS prospectus PDF on the university site returned no machine-readable text when retrieved. Treat the fee figures as indicative and re-check them against the payment screen before paying.

The commonest mistake with this cycle is preparing for an exam that the sourced evidence says is not being held. CollegeDekho states plainly that allotment rests on index marks from the qualifying degree and that no written entrance test is used for the centralised PG programmes. Candidates who spend September revising a syllabus are spending it on the wrong thing; the work that actually changes an outcome now is reading the 17 September vacancy position and filing correctly in the spot round.

Spot admission is a vacancy problem, not a rank problem

In the regular allotments a candidate competes against the whole applicant pool for a fixed seat matrix. In a spot round the matrix is whatever the 17 September vacancy position says is still empty after the first allotment, the second allotment, the supplementary allotment, the community quota round and the August spot allotment have each taken their share. The practical consequence is that a strong index mark in a subject with zero vacancies is worth nothing, while a modest index mark in a thinly subscribed subject at a smaller affiliated college can convert immediately. Read the vacancy document before deciding which combinations to pursue, and treat the subject list rather than your own rank as the binding constraint on what is achievable in this round.

Index marks come from the degree, so the record is fixed

Because the selection basis reported is index marks computed from the qualifying degree examination, nothing a candidate does in September changes their standing. What can still change is whether the university is working from the correct marks. Mark-list discrepancies, pending results, revaluation outcomes and improvement-examination scores are the recurring sources of error, and they surface late, usually at the college counter during joining. Anyone entering the second phase should carry the consolidated mark statement, the provisional or degree certificate, and documentary evidence of any revaluation already applied for, because a spot round gives no time to obtain a corrected document after the fact.

Three programmes sit outside the allotment entirely

CollegeDekho records that MBA, MCA and MASLP are handled under separate admission procedures and are not part of the 63-programme centralised allotment. Candidates who registered on the PG portal expecting those seats to appear in their allotment result will find nothing, and will often conclude wrongly that their application failed. If one of those three is the target, the centralised spot round is not the route and the relevant departmental or state-level process has to be tracked independently. Confirm which route applies before the spot window closes, because time spent waiting on a general PG allotment that structurally cannot include the programme is time that cannot be recovered.

The portal shows a community quota allotment dated 31 July and a sports quota second phase whose provisional rank list was revised as recently as 14 September. These reserved routes do not share the general allotment's calendar and their lists can be reissued. The word revised in the sports quota entry matters: a list circulated earlier in September has been replaced, and a candidate relying on a downloaded copy may be reading a superseded position. For any quota claim, check the publication date printed on the list itself, and re-check the portal before travelling to a college, since a revision issued after a candidate sets out is still the operative list on arrival.

Verify fees and figures at the counter, not from this page

The admission fee figures of INR 1,430 for general candidates and INR 200 for SC, ST and OEC candidates are reported by CollegeDekho and were not confirmed against the university's own prospectus, because the PG CSS prospectus PDF on the university site returned no readable text when fetched. The same caveat applies to the count of 63 programmes. These are useful for planning and unsafe for relying on. Confirm the payable amount on the university's own payment screen and confirm programme availability in the current vacancy position, and contact the admissions helpline listed on the portal if a figure on any third-party page disagrees with what the portal shows.

Tier-1 runs two hours for 100 questions and 300 marks with one mark deducted per wrong answer; Tier-2 runs two and a half hours for 70 questions and 100 marks with 0.25 deducted on the objective half only. No History appears in Tier-1, and Tier-1 scores do not survive the shortlist: merit is computed from Tier-2 at 85 per cent and the interview at 15. The post is Level-8 in the pay matrix, Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100, with an upper age limit of 40 years. Apart from the result line, every date here is common to the whole of Recruitment Notification 01/2025: one notification, one application window and one pair of examinations covering PGT, TGT, PRT and the non-teaching posts across both KVS and NVS. Result dates diverge by subject because CBSE published Tier-2 outcomes in twelve phases between 17 August and 14 September 2026, and History fell in the third, two days into the sequence. The Tier-1 examination dates are as reported by Career Power; the rest come from CBSE and KVS notices. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.

The single most costly assumption in PGT History is that the paper is an Indian history paper. It is not. Roughly half the listed syllabus is world history, running from third-millennium Mesopotamia to twentieth-century East Asia, and it is set thematically rather than as a chronological survey. Candidates who arrive from a civil-services preparation habit, where Indian history dominates, walk into a paper where Rome, the Mongols and the European Renaissance are worth as much as the Mughals.

The syllabus is the separate Tier-II document on the KVS and NVS sites, not the notification, and it organises the world component as discrete themes rather than a narrative. Writing and city life in third-millennium Iraq, and the historiographical argument about what writing was for. An empire across three continents, meaning Rome from 27 BCE to 600 CE, its political evolution, economy, religion and late antiquity, with the scholarly debate on slavery attached. Nomadic empires, the thirteenth and fourteenth-century Mongols, and what nomadism means for state formation. The three orders of western Europe from the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries, feudal society and the debate about feudalism's decline. Changing cultural traditions in fourteenth to seventeenth-century Europe and the historiography of the Renaissance. Displacing indigenous peoples in North America and Australia. Paths to modernisation in East Asia, Japanese militarisation against the Chinese communist alternative.

The Indian themes are not framed as dynasties but as problems approached through named evidence. Harappan archaeology and site reports. Early states from the Mauryas to the Guptas, read through inscriptions and the decipherment of script. Kinship, caste and class using the Mahabharata as a social source. Thinkers, beliefs and buildings, with Sanchi and the Buddhist, Vedic, Jain, Vaishnava and Shaiva traditions. Travellers' perceptions through Al Biruni, Ibn Battuta and Francois Bernier. Bhakti and Sufi traditions. Vijayanagara and the architecture of Hampi. Mughal agrarian society through the Ain-i-Akbari. Colonialism and the countryside through official archives and the Permanent Settlement. 1857. Gandhi and the nationalist movement from 1918 to 1948. Framing the Constitution through the Constituent Assembly debates.

Because nearly every Indian theme in the syllabus is tied to a specific body of evidence, the objective half is well suited to questions about the source itself: who compiled the Ain-i-Akbari and when it was translated, what kind of document a Constituent Assembly debate is, which traveller recorded what and in which language, how a site report differs from a chronicle. These are finite, learnable facts and they are exactly what a syllabus written around sources invites a paper-setter to ask. Preparing a one-page card for each named text and archive, covering author, date, language, provenance and limitation, is disproportionately productive against a 60-question objective paper.

Historiographical debates carry the written marks

Several themes in the syllabus explicitly name a debate rather than a set of events: what writing was for in Mesopotamia, the nature of Roman slavery, how to read nomadic societies, why feudalism declined, how to interpret the Renaissance, the impact of settler colonisation, and competing models of East Asian modernisation. That is where the ten descriptive questions, worth 40 of the paper's 100 marks and around a third of the final merit position, are most naturally placed. A four-mark answer on a debate needs a named position, a counter-position and a line of evidence, written inside the pressure of 70 questions in 150 minutes, so practise them as compact structured paragraphs rather than essays.

A small subject with no published cut-off

History is one of the smallest PGT blocks in this notification, with 75 KVS posts against 164 for English and 213 for Physics. Since Tier-1 shortlists at one to ten against notified vacancies, a small subject means a small Tier-2 cohort and sharper competition per place; the 110 NVS History posts advertised in the same notification partly offset that. CBSE has published no subject-wise Tier-2 cut-off and no category-wise qualifying marks. For interview posts, the phase notices say the result shows shortlisting status only, with marksheets due within fifteen days of the final result, so History candidates shortlisted on 20 August still do not hold a score. Coaching cut-off tables quoting PGT figures out of 150 marks do not match the 100-mark paper.
