The single costliest misreading of the FSOT is treating a missed registration deadline as a three-month delay. Because Pearson VUE limits candidates to one test in any 12-month period, the calendar penalty for a mistimed or wasted attempt is a year, not a quarter. That rule should shape when a candidate chooses to sit, not just whether they can.

Registration for the October 2026 window opened on 10 September 2026 and closes on 8 October 2026, with testing from 10 to 17 October. The window that matters for scheduling is the registration window, not the testing window, and the two do not overlap. Seats at on-base centres and overseas Pearson sites are finite, and the 130 or so on-base locations are unevenly distributed, so candidates who need a physical centre rather than OnVUE should book at the start of the registration period rather than the end. Prepare across four distinct content areas

Set up the OnVUE environment before test day

The Begin Exam button becomes available 30 minutes before the appointment and closes 15 minutes after it, and arriving more than 15 minutes late counts as a no-show. Check-in includes facial comparison for identity verification and room and desk scans, and the exam is closed book with no personal items in the room. The registration name must match an unexpired government-issued photo and signature ID exactly. Each of those is a routine reason for a lost attempt, and with a one-per-year limit a no-show is an expensive administrative failure.

Passing the FSOT does not produce an offer.
