BPSC's own exam calendar, dated 14 August 2026, lists TRE 4.0 at serial 30 with 32,388 vacancies under the heading 2 PHASE EXAMS (PT + MAINS), and records the exam date as TBD with the remark that the date of the PT shall be published after the completion of the advertisement period. This is a state government statement rather than a BPSC order, and it directly contradicts the Commission's own calendar.</p>

Candidates appearing in STET 2026 may apply on self-declaration provided they qualify before the test.</p>

None of the aggregators carrying it cites an advertisement number or a date, and it is contradicted by both official BPSC documents that do carry a number: Advertisement 14/2026 of 18 August 2026 and the exam calendar of 14 August 2026, which state 32,388. Until BPSC publishes a corrigendum, 32,388 is the figure to plan against.</p>

TRE 4.0 scheme of examination across the four levels

The structure is identical at all four levels; only the Part III subject and the eligibility qualification change. Part I combines English with one of Hindi, Urdu or Bangla and is qualifying at 30 per cent, so the merit list is built on the 40 general studies and 80 subject questions. Reported negative marking is one third of a mark per wrong answer, though at least one coaching summary states there is none; the advertisement is the authority. Read the structure below as the pattern for the written examination, not as a settled number of stages. BPSC's calendar of 14 August 2026 places TRE 4.0 under two-phase PT plus Mains exams; the Chief Minister announced a single-phase exam on 27 August 2026; and BPSC has published no corrigendum resolving the two as of 22 September 2026. The question paper described here is the one candidates must prepare for either way, because a single-phase exam would use it and a two-phase exam would use it as the main paper.

This calendar is common to every subject and every level in TRE 4.0, from Primary through Higher Secondary. Only the Advertisement release and the vacancy PDFs are firm; every forward date here is reported by coaching trackers and awaits a BPSC corrigendum.

The most common error is to prepare for TRE as though the subject paper decides everything. It does not, on its own. Part III carries 80 of the 150 questions, but Part II general studies carries another 40 and counts fully towards merit, while Part I language carries 30 and counts for nothing beyond a 30 per cent qualifying bar. A candidate who is strong in the subject and neglects general studies is competing for merit on 80 marks while others compete on 120.

Two thirds of the paper structure is identical across levels, so the real strategic question is which level to sit. Classes 11 to 12 carry 16,101 posts, nearly half the total and more than four times the 3,847 at Classes 1 to 5, but they demand a postgraduate degree with B.Ed and STET Paper 2. Classes 6 to 8, at 8,563 posts, is the largest opening below postgraduate level. Classes 9 to 10, at 3,877, is the narrowest of the secondary routes. District-wise PDFs were issued for each level on 18 August 2026, and district concentration within a subject is often sharper than the headline number suggests.

The language paper is a gate, not a scoring opportunity

Part I pairs English with one of Hindi, Urdu or Bangla over 30 questions and is qualifying only, at a reported 30 per cent threshold. Marks scored above that threshold do not enter the merit list. Two consequences follow. First, time spent polishing language beyond a comfortable pass is time taken from the 120 marks that do count. Second, a candidate who scores well overall but falls under 30 per cent in Part I is out regardless, so the section cannot be skipped either. Budget a fixed, modest slice of the 150 minutes to it and move on.

Certification is the step that disqualifies most late applicants

The certification requirement varies by level: CTET Paper-II or Bihar TET Paper-II for the middle and secondary rungs, and STET Paper 2 for Classes 11 to 12, alongside a master's degree with 50 per cent and B.Ed, or 55 per cent with a three-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed. TRE 4.0 permits candidates appearing in STET 2026 to apply on self-declaration, but the concession is conditional on qualifying before the test is held. Since the test date is unannounced, that window cannot be planned around and the self-declaration route carries real risk.

The domicile position has moved and it changes the arithmetic

Reports for TRE 4.0 describe 84.4 per cent of vacancies ring-fenced for Bihar domicile holders, with 15.6 per cent open to all. A non-domicile candidate therefore competes for roughly one post in six, and cannot claim SC, ST, OBC or EWS reservation whatever their category elsewhere. The 35 per cent horizontal reservation for women resident in Bihar operates within categories, and candidates who passed Class 10 and Class 12 in Bihar are reported to receive additional preference. No government order date could be sourced for the split, so verify it in Advertisement 14/2026 before deciding to apply from outside the state.

Act on the corrigendum, not on the tracker

The cycle has already slipped once: the announced window of 01 to 30 September 2026 was withdrawn for procedural changes, and the revised 21 September 2026 opening is reported by coaching sites rather than confirmed in a document that could be read here. Reported fees also diverge, with Rs 100 for all categories plus a Rs 200 biometric charge in the more recent reports against category-wise figures in earlier ones. Registration now runs through One Time Registration with DigiLocker verification, which takes time to complete, so build the OTR and document set while the dates settle.
