Updates as of September 22, 2026
The Agriculture cut-off for the concluded cycle was published with the final result on 29 July 2026. For male candidates the unreserved mark was 460 out of 500, with OBC and EWS at 452 and SC at 440. Against a 125-question paper at four marks each, 460 allows ten wrong or unattempted questions in total.
Testbook (coaching site, sole source for subject-wise cut-offs)Agriculture was advertised as 47 posts under Advertisement 01/2022, all of them in boys' schools, with no vacancy in girls' schools. That is against 3,539 Trained Graduate Teacher posts in the cycle as a whole, placing Agriculture among the specialist subjects rather than the mainstream ones.
Testbook (coaching site)No fresh Trained Graduate Teacher advertisement had been issued as at 22 September 2026, so there is no current Agriculture vacancy figure. Reported expectations for the next cycle range from 17,740 total TGT posts to more than 38,000, neither confirmed by the commission and neither broken down by subject.
Exampur Store (coaching site)The published Agriculture syllabus spans eight areas: principles of agronomy, animal breeding, animal diseases, soil science, water management, horticulture production, entomology and rural development. It is therefore a whole-agriculture paper rather than a crop-science one, and the rural development block covers government programmes launched in India.
Agri Books (subject site, sole source for the topic list)A revised written format is being reported for the coming cycle: 120 questions worth 360 marks, of which 90 are subject and 30 general studies, replacing the 125-question, 500-mark subject-only paper, with negative marking introduced. This appears only on coaching sites and not yet in a commission advertisement.
Career Power (coaching site)The UP TGT Agriculture paper and post count
| Element | Detail | Figure |
|---|---|---|
| Paper used in the concluded cycle | 125 objective questions on Agriculture, offline OMR, two hours | 500 marks, four per question |
| Negative marking in that paper | None, so an unattempted question was simply a lost four marks | Zero penalty |
| Reported format for the next cycle | 90 Agriculture questions plus 30 general studies questions, penalty introduced | 360 marks, three per question |
| Vacancies under Advertisement 01/2022 | 47 posts, all in boys' schools, none in girls' schools | 47 of 3,539 |
| Cut-off, male candidates, that cycle | Unreserved 460, OBC 452, EWS 452, SC 440 | Out of 500 |
| Pay and selection route | Pay level 7, written examination and document verification, no interview | Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400 |
Agriculture is a single-paper subject with no practical or portfolio component, unlike Art and Music on the same TGT list. Because there is no interview anywhere in the TGT route, the 500-mark paper was the entire selection, which is why the cut-off landed so close to the ceiling.

What this means for your preparation
Most candidates come to this paper from a crop-science background and prepare agronomy, soils and plant protection thoroughly, then discover that two of the eight syllabus areas are animal science and one is rural development policy. The Agriculture syllabus is the whole discipline at graduate level, animal husbandry included. With the last cut-off at 460 out of 500 for unreserved male candidates, surrendering two of eight areas is not survivable arithmetic.
Two of eight areas are animal science
The published syllabus lists animal breeding, covering the objectives and methods of breeding and the different species of animals, and animal diseases, covering the description, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of the major diseases of livestock. Neither is a footnote in a school-level agriculture curriculum, and both are routinely the weakest section for a candidate whose degree specialised in agronomy or horticulture. Diagnosis-and-treatment questions reward exactly the kind of factual recall that an objective paper can test in one line: causative organism, characteristic symptom, standard treatment. Build a table of the major cattle, buffalo, goat and poultry diseases against those three columns and learn it as a table, because that is the shape the questions take.
Rural development is a policy block, not an agronomy one
The eighth syllabus area is the various programmes launched for rural development in India. This behaves like a static general-knowledge section rather than a technical one, and it drifts, because schemes are renamed, merged and relaunched. It is also the area where a candidate preparing from an older textbook is most exposed. Treat it separately from the science: learn each major programme by launch year, ministry, target group and delivery mechanism. If the reported new pattern arrives with 30 general studies questions alongside the 90 subject questions, this block overlaps usefully with the current affairs and economy portion of general studies, which makes it the highest-yield revision in the syllabus per hour spent.
A cut-off of 460 means ten mistakes in 125
The concluded cycle's Agriculture cut-off was 460 out of 500 for unreserved male candidates, 452 for OBC and EWS and 440 for SC. At four marks a question, unreserved candidates could afford ten questions wrong or unattempted out of 125 and reserved candidates twelve to fifteen. The gap between unreserved and SC was 20 marks, five questions. Since the concluded paper carried no negative marking, every blank was a self-inflicted loss and the rational strategy was a full attempt sheet. If negative marking is genuinely introduced next cycle, that calculus reverses for genuinely unknown questions, and candidates should re-learn a discipline they have never needed on this paper.
Water, soil and entomology carry the technical core
Three areas form the technical spine and they interlock. Soil science is specified as the physio-chemical and biological properties of soil together with food and fertilisers. Water management covers the sources and methods of water supply for different crops and moisture conservation. Entomology covers knowledge of the major worms and insects and the diseases of major crops. Questions across these three tend to be crop-specific rather than general: which pest attacks which crop at which stage, which nutrient deficiency shows which symptom, which irrigation method suits which soil texture. Revise them crop by crop for the principal crops of Uttar Pradesh rather than topic by topic, because that is how the associations are tested.
Check the qualification route before assuming eligibility
Agriculture is one of the specialist TGT posts, and the qualification is an agriculture degree rather than an academic subject degree: reported requirements are a bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised university established by law in India, plus a B.Ed from a recognised university, with a four-year integrated degree accepted as covering both. The age band in the last cycle was 21 to 60 years. Because the commission's governing statute changed in 2023 and was amended in 2026, the exact list of accepted agriculture degrees should be read from the qualification clause of the new advertisement rather than from a previous cycle's summary.
Common questions
What is the UP TGT Agriculture syllabus?
Eight areas are published: principles of agronomy, taken as definition, concept, scope and development, classification of crops, mixed farming, dry farming and crop rotation; animal breeding; animal diseases; soil science, covering the physio-chemical and biological properties of soil and food and fertilisers; water management; horticulture production, including nursery management for vegetables and fruits and preservation and processing; entomology; and rural development programmes in India. It is a graduate-level agriculture paper rather than a school-level one, and it includes animal science as well as crop science.
How many UP TGT Agriculture vacancies were there?
Forty-seven under Advertisement 01/2022, all in boys' schools, with no Agriculture post advertised in girls' schools that cycle. That sat within 3,539 TGT posts in total. By comparison the mainstream subjects in the same advertisement carried several hundred each, with English at 511 posts for men and Hindi at 509. No Agriculture figure exists for the next cycle, because no fresh TGT advertisement had been released as at 22 September 2026.
What was the UP TGT Agriculture cut-off?
For the concluded cycle, male candidates needed 460 out of 500 for unreserved, 452 for OBC, 452 for EWS and 440 for SC. The cut-offs were published with the final result on 29 July 2026. They are high in absolute terms because the TGT route has no interview stage, so the written paper alone forms the merit list, and because the paper carried no negative marking, which pushes scores up across the board. Agriculture's threshold sat below Art's, which closed at 480 for unreserved male candidates.
What qualification is needed for UP TGT Agriculture?
A bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised university established by law in India, together with a B.Ed from a recognised university; a four-year integrated degree covering both is also reported as accepted. In practice this is an agriculture degree route rather than an academic science one, which is what distinguishes Agriculture from the general TGT subjects. The age band in the last cycle was 21 to 60 years reckoned as at 1 July. Confirm the exact accepted degrees from the qualification clause of the current advertisement.
Is there negative marking in UP TGT Agriculture?
There was none in the concluded cycle, where the paper was 125 questions at four marks each for 500 marks in two hours. Coaching sites report that the next cycle will move to 120 questions worth 360 marks, with 90 subject questions and 30 general studies questions and a penalty for wrong answers, though they disagree on whether the deduction is a third of a mark or a full mark. Nothing in a commission advertisement confirms this yet, so plan for both and confirm on release.
Does UP TGT Agriculture have an interview?
No. Trained Graduate Teacher selection runs the written examination followed by document verification, and the merit list is formed from written marks alone. This differs from the Post Graduate Teacher route in the same commission, where a 40-mark interview is added to a 360-mark written paper for a 400-mark total. The practical consequence for Agriculture candidates is that there is no later stage at which a weak paper can be offset, which is the main reason the subject cut-off sits above 90 per cent.
