With 43 posts, the arithmetic is tight at every stage: roughly 430 candidates reach the Tier-2 paper and roughly 129 reach the interview. There is no Commerce content in Tier-1, which is a general 300-mark screening paper.

Dates and windows

This timetable is shared by every subject in Recruitment Notification 01/2025 and by both KVS and NVS; only the result phase and interview scheduling vary by post. There was never a separate Commerce application window or exam date. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.

What this means for your preparation

The recurring error in NVS PGT Commerce is treating it as a commerce-stream paper rather than a two-subject paper. The published Tier-2 syllabus contains Accountancy and Business Studies only. Economics is not in it, and Economics is a wholly separate PGT subject with 148 NVS posts against Commerce's 43. Candidates who revise micro and macroeconomics, or who lean on an M.Com in Business Economics, are preparing material that is neither examined nor, in the case of that degree, accepted.

Accountancy is the heavier half and the harder half

The published units run through introduction to accounting and GAAP, recording of transactions and special purpose books, bank reconciliation, depreciation by straight-line and written-down value, provisions and reserves, trial balance and rectification with suspense account, final accounts with adjustments, partnership accounts including goodwill valuation by average profit, super profit and capitalisation, reconstitution, retirement, death and dissolution with the realisation account, share capital including ESOP, sweat equity, forfeiture and reissue, debentures, Schedule III financial statements, ratio analysis and cash flow statements. Almost all of that is problem-solving rather than recall. In an objective section with a quarter-mark deduction, a half-worked partnership or forfeiture problem is a trap, because plausible distractors are built from the intermediate figures.

Business Studies is broad but current

The Business Studies half is wide and largely definitional: evolution of business and indigenous banking, forms of organisation, public private and global enterprises, business services, e-business, social responsibility and ethics, sources of finance, small business and the MSMED Act 2006, internal and international trade with export and import documentation, and the management block of nature and significance, Fayol and Taylor, business environment, planning, organising, staffing, directing with Maslow and leadership styles, controlling, financial management, financial markets and SEBI, marketing mix, and the Consumer Protection Act 2019. The syllabus explicitly names GST characteristics, IndAS applicability, demonetisation and Start-up India, so the currency of the statute and scheme detail matters.

Forty-three posts make every mark load-bearing

Commerce has the thinnest vacancy list of the twelve NVS PGT subjects. Applying the notification's own ratios, about 430 candidates were called to the Tier-2 paper and about 129 will reach the interview. For comparison, Economics at 148 posts sends roughly 444 to interview and Biology at 161 roughly 483. Two of the 43 posts are reserved for benchmark disabilities and both fall outside the visual and hearing categories. CBSE has published no category-wise qualifying percentage, so the cut-off is simply where the 1:3 line lands, and in a small pool that line moves sharply on a few marks.

Ten descriptive answers, mostly formats

The descriptive section carries 40 of the 100 marks across ten questions, about four marks each against one for an objective question, and attracts no negative marking. In Commerce the predictable forms are a partnership revaluation or realisation account, a share forfeiture and reissue entry set, a comparative or common-size statement, a ratio computed and interpreted, a cash flow classification, and on the Business Studies side a structured answer on Fayol's principles, capital structure determinants, channels of distribution or consumer redressal machinery. Presentation counts: ruled account formats, working notes, and the interpretation sentence after a computed ratio are what distinguish a full-mark answer.

The Navodaya posting, and applying to both bodies

A single application covered as many posts as the candidate wished, and the notification says a candidate applying for similar posts in both organisations pays the fee for a single post, so KVS and NVS Commerce could be pursued together at no extra cost or sitting. What differs is the job. JNVs are fully residential schools up to senior secondary, largely rural; teachers live on campus with rent-free accommodation as available and carry house mastership, remedial and supervisory study and co-curricular duties, and appraisal covers the residential system. Initial posting is anywhere in India and requests for change of station or region are not entertained.

How many NVS PGT Commerce vacancies are there in 2025-26?

Forty-three, in the NVS column of the vacancy table in CBSE Recruitment Notification 01/2025: 19 unreserved, 4 EWS, 11 OBC-NCL, 6 SC and 3 ST, plus two posts reserved horizontally for candidates with benchmark disabilities. It is the smallest PGT subject on the NVS side, well below Economics at 148 and Computer Science at 135. KVS Commerce posts are listed separately in the same table and should not be added in when judging competition for a Navodaya posting.

Does the NVS PGT Commerce syllabus include Economics?

No. The Tier-2 syllabus published by KVS on 13 November 2025 covers Accountancy and Business Studies only. Accountancy runs from accounting concepts and special purpose books to partnership, share capital, debentures, Schedule III statements, ratio analysis and cash flow. Business Studies runs from the evolution of business and forms of organisation through the full management block to marketing and the Consumer Protection Act 2019. Economics is a separate PGT subject in the same notification with its own vacancies and its own syllabus.

Can an M.Com in Business Economics apply for NVS PGT Commerce?

No. The notification's qualification entry for PGT Commerce states that a holder of an M.Com degree in Applied or Business Economics shall not be eligible. The requirement is a Master's in Commerce with at least 50 per cent marks together with a B.Ed carrying at least 50 per cent or a three-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed, and the ability to teach in Hindi and English medium. Candidates with that degree variant should check the exact nomenclature on their certificate before assuming eligibility, because the exclusion is worded by degree title.

When will the NVS PGT Commerce Tier-2 result come out?

CBSE is releasing Tier-2 results in twelve phases between 17 August and 14 September 2026, with reported phase dates of 17, 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 26 and 28 August and 1 September onward. The press notes seen here name Computer Science, Economics, History, Chemistry, Physics, Principal and Hindi, but not Commerce. Because CBSE has not published a subject-to-phase map, the candidate login at the recruitment portal is the reliable place to check rather than any third-party list.

What does the NVS PGT Commerce paper look like?

Tier-2 is a pen-and-paper paper of 100 marks in two and a half hours: 60 objective questions worth 60 marks with a quarter mark deducted for each wrong answer, and 10 descriptive questions worth 40 marks with no deduction. It is set bilingually in Hindi and English. Tier-1, sat on 10 and 11 January 2026, contained no Commerce at all: it was 100 questions and 300 marks of reasoning, numeric ability, computer literacy, general knowledge, English and a Modern Indian Language, used only to screen at 1:10.

Is NVS PGT Commerce better than KVS PGT Commerce?

The examination is the same for both, and a single application with a single fee covered similar posts in both organisations, so the question is about the posting rather than the paper. A Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is a fully residential, largely rural school where the teacher lives on campus, receives rent-free accommodation as available, and takes on house mastership and supervisory study duties, with initial posting anywhere in India and change-of-station requests not entertained. Kendriya Vidyalayas are day schools attached to central government stations, with their own posting arrangements.
