Alerts and Updates for National Institute of Social Defence

NISD, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment's nodal training institute for social defence, issued a notice on August 22, 2026 inviting applications for a Mission Manager post on contractual basis, part of its ongoing hiring for drug-demand-reduction and social-defence programmes.

NISD released guidelines on August 3, 2026 for a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme for Master Trainers under its GCP Programme, adding to its network of certified trainers working in drug-abuse prevention and rehabilitation across states.

On July 30, 2026, NISD published the list of shortlisted candidates for its Three-Month Certificate Course on Drug De-Addiction, Counselling Skills, Treatment and Rehabilitation for FY 2026-27, one of its flagship free short courses for the sector's frontline workforce.

NISD marked the 6th anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Drug-Free India Campaign) on July 21, 2026 with a new internship initiative, reflecting the institute's continuing role as the training arm behind the government's anti-drug-abuse outreach.

NISD has invited applications, in a notice dated 16 June 2026, for admission to its Three-Month Certificate Course on Drug De-addiction, Counselling Skills, Treatment and Rehabilitation. The course is aimed at counsellors, social workers and outreach workers at treatment centres, and includes theory sessions plus a one-week field placement.

A five-day Training of Assessors programme for the Geriatric Care Provider job role was conducted by NISD from 29 June to 3 July 2026. NISD's training calendar page carries the schedule of upcoming programmes across elderly care, drug-abuse prevention, transgender welfare and beggary prevention.

NISD's flagship academic programme is the one-year PG Diploma in Integrated Geriatric Care, open to graduates, with 25 seats. Admission is advertised in national and regional dailies around May-June and the course tentatively commences on 1 October.

For candidates who cannot attend residential courses, NISD runs TAPAS, a free online learning platform offering self-paced certificate courses in elderly care, substance abuse prevention and transgender issues, with enrolment open through the year.
