The Science paper at a glance

Science is the one TGT subject in this recruitment whose paper is not a single discipline. The published Tier-2 syllabus runs across chemistry, biology and physics in comparable depth, so a graduate who studied only one of those streams is covering roughly a third of the paper from prior knowledge. Tier-1 contributes nothing to merit and no subject content; it only screens candidates at a ratio of 1:10 per category.

Dates and windows

Every date above except the Science result is common to all posts in KVS Advertisement 01/2025 — one notification, one application window, one Tier-1 date and one Tier-2 date shared with Mathematics, Sanskrit, Physical and Health Education and the rest. The Tier-2 result stage is the point at which subjects diverge, because CBSE is releasing it subject by subject. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.

What this means for your preparation

TGT Science candidates are admitted on a biology-weighted degree and then sit a paper that is not biology-weighted. The eligibility rule demands Biology, Botany or Zoology with Chemistry; the syllabus devotes a full third to physics — motion, Newton's laws, gravitation, work and energy, sound, current electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic induction and optics. The single most common failure is assuming one B.Sc. stream covers the paper. It does not.

The eligibility and the paper do not match

The notification's essential qualification for TGT Science is a Bachelor's or Honours degree with at least 50 per cent in one of three prescribed combinations — Biology with Chemistry and either Botany or Zoology, Botany with Chemistry and Zoology, or Zoology with Chemistry and Botany — plus a B.Ed. with 50 per cent, and CTET Paper-II. Physics appears nowhere in that list. Yet the Tier-2 syllabus carries a substantial physics block covering distance and displacement, uniform and non-uniform motion, motion graphs, Newton's laws, the universal law of gravitation, acceleration due to gravity, mass and weight, free fall, Archimedes' principle and buoyancy, work, power, kinetic and potential energy and conservation of energy. Most successful candidates rebuild secondary and senior-secondary physics from scratch rather than relying on their degree.

The chemistry block reaches beyond class ten

The chemistry portion starts at states of matter including plasma and Bose-Einstein condensate, then moves through classification of matter, Henry's Law, concentration of solutions, colloids with the Tyndall effect and Brownian movement, and suspensions. It then covers Gay-Lussac's law, Avogadro's law, atomic and molecular masses, the mole concept, molar masses and percentage composition, isotopes and isobars, discharge tube experiments, balanced equations and the reaction types, thermochemistry, redox, acids, bases and salts in terms of H plus and OH minus ions, pH, named compounds such as bleaching powder, baking soda, washing soda and plaster of Paris, metals and non-metals with the reactivity series, metallurgy and corrosion, and organic chemistry through covalent bonding, hydrocarbons, alcohols, carboxylic acids, soaps and detergents, hybridisation, isomerism and IUPAC nomenclature.

Biology is the narrowest block, not the biggest

Candidates from a life-science degree often over-invest here because it feels safe. The listed biology content is tightly bounded: animal tissues in four types and plant tissues as meristematic and permanent, nutrition, respiration, transport and excretion, plant hormones and tropic movements, the nervous system with voluntary, involuntary and reflex actions, animal hormones, asexual and sexual reproduction and reproductive health, Mendel's laws of inheritance, sex determination, acquired and inherited traits, homologous and analogous organs and fossils, and cell structure with prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisation and the organelles. Add to that classification and diversity, health and disease with infectious and non-infectious distinctions, and immunisation. A graduate in botany or zoology can hold this with revision and should reallocate the time saved to physics.

Applied and environmental topics are reliable marks

Two clusters sit outside the three core disciplines and are frequently skipped. The first is agriculture and applied biology: plant and animal breeding, fertilisers and manures, protection from pests and disease, and organic farming. The second is environment and public health: ecosystems and environmental problems, ozone depletion, waste management, biodegradable and non-biodegradable substances, global warming and the greenhouse effect, acid rain and smog, water pollution with oxygen demand and drinking water standards. These are factual, low-ambiguity items that suit the objective section, and they also make natural subjects for the descriptive questions, where a structured answer on waste management or water quality is easier to write well than a numerical derivation.

What the cut-off history suggests about Science

CareerPower reports Science Tier-1 cut-offs for the 2023 KVS cycle of 130 for UR, 122 for OBC, 115 for SC and 105 for ST, on a paper of 180 marks. Those are the lowest of the three academic subjects on this page — Mathematics was 141 for UR and Sanskrit 142 — and above Physical and Health Education at 113. The figures come from a coaching compilation, not a KVS publication, and the 2026 Tier-1 paper is 300 marks rather than 180, so they do not transfer as absolute numbers. Read them only as a relative signal: with 177 posts and a lower screening bar, Science competition concentrates at the Tier-2 stage rather than at screening.

Common questions

Does KVS TGT Science cover physics, chemistry and biology together?

Yes. The Tier-2 syllabus is a composite paper spanning all three. Chemistry runs from states of matter and the mole concept through acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals and organic chemistry to Mendeleev's periodic law. Biology covers tissues, life processes, coordination, reproduction, genetics, evolution and cell structure. Physics covers motion, Newton's laws, gravitation, buoyancy, work and energy, sound, current electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic induction and optics. One B.Sc. stream does not cover the paper.

Can I apply for KVS TGT Science with a B.Sc. in Physics?

Not on the combinations set out in the notification. The essential qualification names three routes, each biology-based: Biology with Chemistry and either Botany or Zoology; Botany with Chemistry and Zoology; or Zoology with Chemistry and Botany, each with at least 50 per cent, plus a B.Ed. with 50 per cent and CTET Paper-II. Physics is not listed as a qualifying main subject for TGT Science, even though the Tier-2 paper tests physics substantially. Verify your own degree combination against the notification text before applying.

How many TGT Science posts are on offer and how does that compare?

The notification lists 177 posts: 74 UR, 17 EWS, 47 OBC (NCL), 26 SC and 13 ST, with 11 LD, 11 VI, 5 HI and 11 further horizontal posts including backlog. That makes Science the smallest academic TGT subject in this advertisement, against 529 for Sanskrit, 413 for Mathematics, 327 for Social Studies and 314 for English. Testbook reports a later revision taking Science to 197 as part of a TGT total of 3,096, but that figure is a coaching portal's and not one we have seen confirmed by KVS.

Is the KVS TGT Science Tier-2 result out?

Careers360 reported on 26 August 2026 that CBSE had released the TGT Science Tier-2 result for both KVS and NVS, with scorecards available in candidate logins at examinationservices.nic.in. Results across the recruitment have been issued in phases from 17 August 2026 onward, so Science was cleared earlier than several other subjects. Candidates shortlisted at the 1:3 ratio will receive interview call letters through the same login once the schedule is finalised.

How is the final merit calculated for TGT Science?

The Tier-1 paper is purely a screening test and contributes nothing to merit; it shortlists at a ratio of 1:10 per category. The Tier-2 subject paper of 100 marks carries 85 per cent of the final merit, and the interview of 100 marks carries 15 per cent. Shortlisting for interview is at 1:3 per category on Tier-2 marks. In effect the composite science paper of 29 March 2026 decides most of the outcome.

What is the negative marking in the Science paper?

The two stages differ. In Tier-1, each of the 100 questions carries three marks and one mark is deducted for a wrong answer, a one-third penalty. In the Tier-2 subject paper, the 60 objective questions carry one mark each and 0.25 is deducted for a wrong answer, while the 10 descriptive questions carrying 40 marks have no stated deduction. The lighter Tier-2 penalty means an informed elimination between two options is usually worth attempting.
