The arithmetic of 13 posts is what makes this paper unusual. An interview shortlist drawn at 1:3 against notified vacancies is roughly forty candidates nationally, and only eight of the thirteen posts are unreserved. That, rather than any difference in paper difficulty, is the likeliest explanation for TGT Hindi sitting at the top of the reported subject-wise cut-off table.

Dates and windows

This schedule is common to every subject under Notification 1/2025 rather than specific to Hindi: one notification, one application window and one pair of exam windows cover all TGT subjects, the PGT posts and the non-teaching posts. Only the Tier 2 result was staggered post by post, and the reports we could read do not name the phase in which TGT Hindi fell. Exam dates and the reported extension come from coaching portals, not a KVS document. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.

What this means for your preparation

Hindi aspirants consistently misjudge the scale of the opening. Notification 1/2025 carries 13 TGT Hindi posts against 529 for Sanskrit, and a candidate who plans around the family's headline figure of 2,794 TGT vacancies is planning around a number that has almost nothing to do with their paper. The second misjudgement is treating the paper as a literature paper when the reported syllabus is overwhelmingly vyakaran and shabd-bhandar.

Thirteen posts changes the whole calculation

With 13 notified posts, eight of them unreserved, the interview shortlist at the 1:3 ratio is around forty candidates for the entire country, and for an unreserved candidate around twenty-four. That is the structural reason TGT Hindi shows the highest reported subject-wise cut-off in the family. The practical consequence is that a score which would comfortably clear TGT English or TGT Science will not clear Hindi. Anyone eligible in both Hindi and Sanskrit, which a fair number of language graduates with a B.Ed are, should look at the vacancy table before choosing: Sanskrit carried 529 posts in the same notification and a correspondingly wider shortlist.

A vyakaran paper, not a sahitya paper

Testbook's account of the Hindi syllabus is dominated by grammar and word-study: sangya, sarvanam, visheshan and kriya with their classifications, ling and vachan, upsarg and pratyay, sentence types in saral, sanyukt and mishra, alankar, paryayvachi, vilom and shrutisamabhinnarthak words, muhavare and lokoktiyan, and the tatsam, tadbhav, deshaj and videshi categories of word origin. The level is given as graduation, with an NCERT base. None of this is Kabir or Premchand. Candidates who spend their revision on literary history and movements are preparing for a paper that the reported syllabus does not describe, and the objective block will show it quickly.

Where the reported cut-off has sat

Career Power reports a previous-cycle TGT Hindi cut-off out of 180 marks of 141 for unreserved, 134 for OBC non-creamy-layer, 132 for SC and 124 for ST. In the same table TGT English sat at 129, 120, 114 and 106 and TGT Art Education at 132, 126, 124 and 107. The gap of twelve marks between Hindi and English at the unreserved level is the single most useful comparative fact on this page, and it tracks the vacancy gap rather than any difference in the papers. These are coaching-portal figures on an older 180-mark structure and are not comparable mark for mark with the present 100-mark Tier 2.

Forty descriptive marks in Hindi

Tier 2 is 60 objective questions worth 60 marks with a 0.25 deduction and 10 descriptive questions worth 40 marks with none, in two and a half hours. In a paper where the objective half is grammar and vocabulary, most serious Hindi candidates will score similarly on it, and the written block is where a cohort of forty-odd interview places gets separated. Practise the descriptive answers in Devanagari under time, because handwriting speed in Devanagari is a real constraint that candidates rarely test before the hall. Ten answers in roughly sixty minutes, after ninety minutes on the objective block, is the budget to rehearse against.

Eligibility, and what to do now

The notification asks for a Bachelor or Honours degree with at least 50 per cent both in Hindi and in the aggregate, plus a B.Ed at 50 per cent or one of the integrated routes, with CTET Paper II, competency to teach through both English and Hindi medium, and an age ceiling of 35. Hindi graduates most often fail on the English-medium competency clause, which is not waived for language teachers. As of 22 September 2026 nothing is open: registration closed in December 2025, Tier 2 was held in late March 2026, results ran from 17 August to 14 September 2026, and only interviews remain. CTET Paper II must be in hand before the next window.

Recruitment Notification No. 1/2025 lists only 13 TGT Hindi posts: 8 unreserved, 1 EWS, 3 OBC non-creamy-layer, 1 SC and none for ST. That is the smallest TGT stream in the notification, against 529 for Sanskrit, 413 for Mathematics and 314 for English. Coaching portals later reported a revised Hindi figure of 46, but we could not find that revision in a KVS document, so it should be treated as reported rather than confirmed.

No. Registration under Notification 1/2025 opened on 14 November 2025 and closed on 4 December 2025, reported as extended to 11 December 2025. Tier 1 was held on 10 and 11 January 2026 and Tier 2 from 27 to 31 March 2026, with results released in thirteen phases between 17 August and 14 September 2026. Only the interview stage remains. KVS recruitment has been infrequent in recent years and no further TGT Hindi notification has been announced.
