Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan notified 134 TGT Art Education posts in Recruitment Notification No. 1/2025, one of the smallest TGT streams in the document and about two and a half per cent of the Trained Graduate Teacher total of 2,794. The split shown is 55 unreserved, 13 EWS, 36 OBC non-creamy-layer, 20 SC and 10 ST, with a small number of reserved disability slots.

Art Education is a specialist post rather than an academic subject taught for board examinations, and the notification treats it as such: it appears in the same TGT vacancy table as English or Mathematics, but its essential qualification is a fine-arts degree with a studio subject carried through every year of graduation. Every date here except the result phase is common to all posts under Notification 1/2025: one notification, one application window, one Tier 1 and one Tier 2 window cover Art Education, the academic TGT subjects, PGT and the non-teaching posts alike. Only the Tier 2 result was staggered post by post, and TGT Art fell in phase 8. Exam dates and the extension come from coaching portals rather than a KVS document we could read. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.
What this means for your preparation
Art Education candidates most often prepare as though the paper were about making art. It is not. The sourced syllabus is an art-history paper running from the Indus Valley to the twentieth century, tested by objective questions on attribution, period and place, with a descriptive block on top. A second recurring error is preparing to an obsolete pattern: the 150-mark, five-part, no-negative-marking structure still circulating on coaching pages belongs to an earlier KVS cycle.
The eligibility clause that disqualifies most applicants
The notification does not simply ask for a fine-arts degree. It asks for a Bachelor's degree in Drawing and Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Art or Fine Arts at 50 per cent and then adds a condition attached to nothing else in the TGT table: that Drawing and Painting was studied as a main subject in all the years of graduation. A BFA in applied art, design or art history, or a degree where painting was dropped after the first or second year, fails that clause however strong the marks. A B.Ed at 50 per cent is required on top. Verify the transcript year by year against that wording before paying a fee, because this is the point at which Art Education applications are most often rejected.
A specialist post, not an academic subject
Art Education sits in the same TGT vacancy table as English and Mathematics, but it is not an academic-subject post. Its qualification route is a studio fine-arts degree rather than a subject degree, and the same is true of the two other non-academic TGT streams in that table: Work Experience, which the notification gates on an Electrical, Electronics or Electronics and Communication engineering degree with a B.Ed, and Physical and Health Education, which asks for a B.P.Ed or a four-year integrated physical education degree. Together they account for 528 of the 2,794 TGT posts. Candidates should read the Art Education entry in the notification directly rather than inferring requirements, including the CTET position, from the academic-subject entries.
What the art-history syllabus actually rewards
The topic list reported by PW runs in six blocks: Indus Valley art of roughly 2500 to 1500 BC, including the Dancing Girl and the Male Torso; Buddhist, Jain and Hindu art from the third century BC to the eighth century AD, covering the Gandhara and Mathura schools and the Ajanta paintings; temple sculpture and Indo-Islamic architecture from the sixth to thirteenth centuries, with Chola bronzes, the Qutub Minar and the Taj Mahal; Rajasthani and Pahari miniature painting of the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries, with the Mewar, Bundi and Jaipur schools; Mughal and Deccan painting over the same span; and the Bengal School and modern Indian art from Raja Ravi Varma to M.F. Where the Art Education cut-off has sat
Career Power reports that in the previous KVS cycle the TGT Art Education cut-off out of 180 marks was 132 for unreserved, 126 for OBC non-creamy-layer, 124 for SC and 107 for ST. Against the same year's figures for TGT English, 129 and 120 and 114 and 106, Art Education ran slightly higher; against TGT Hindi, at 141 and 134 and 132 and 124, it ran lower. The practical reading is that Art Education is not a soft option because the post count is small: 134 posts means an interview shortlist of roughly 400 nationally at the 1:3 ratio. Those cut-offs are unofficial and were set on a different paper structure, so use them for relative position only.
Do not revise to the old 150-mark pattern
Coaching pages for Art Education still describe a 150-mark paper in five parts, with 20 marks of general English and Hindi, 10 each of general knowledge, reasoning and computer literacy, 100 marks of subject, and no negative marking. That is not the structure of the current cycle. Notification 1/2025 puts the general material in Tier 1, which is purely qualifying at 300 marks with one mark lost per wrong answer, and makes Tier 2 a pure subject paper of 60 objective questions at 60 marks with a 0.25 deduction plus 10 descriptive questions at 40 marks, in two and a half hours. Preparing to the older shape means under-practising written art-history answers, which carry 40 per cent of the paper that decides 85 per cent of the merit.
