KVS PRT at a glance

PRT is the only teaching cadre in this notification whose subject paper is set at senior secondary standard, which changes what Tier-2 preparation looks like compared with the graduate and postgraduate papers. Dates and windows

The calendar is common to every post in Notification 01/2025: PRT candidates sat the same Tier-1 paper on the same two days as PGT, TGT and Principal applicants. Dates from Tier-1 onwards are reported by coaching portals citing CBSE announcements rather than drawn from a notice we could read on the KVS website. The application window closed in three stages: 4 December 2025 as notified, extended to 11 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 5 December, and reopened until 15 December 2025 by the CBSE notice of 13 December for candidates whom the KVS/NVS qualification mismatch had blocked, after Corrigendum-2 aligned the two sets of qualifications.

What this means for your preparation

Two things trip up PRT applicants. The first is the CTET Paper-I condition, which had to be satisfied as at the closing date rather than at any point during the selection, so a certificate awarded afterwards does not rescue an application. The second is assuming that the largest vacancy count means the easiest entry: 3,365 notified posts attract the biggest applicant pool in the notification, and the 1:10 Tier-2 shortlist still eliminates most of it.

CTET Paper-I is a gate, not a scoring input

The notification makes a pass in CTET Paper-I, conducted by CBSE, an essential qualification for PRT, with a concession of up to five per cent marks for SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and PwBD candidates. The certificate is checked as an eligibility condition at the closing date; the CTET score itself does not enter the KVS merit list, which is built from Tier-2 and the interview. Candidates therefore gain nothing from a higher CTET score and lose everything from an expired or post-dated one. Anyone preparing for a future cycle should hold a valid Paper-I pass before the window opens rather than planning to sit CTET during the application period.

Two academic routes, and a third for special education

The academic requirement is senior secondary, higher secondary or intermediate with at least 50 per cent marks combined with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education, or alternatively a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education, or a two-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India. A general B.Ed. on its own is not the PRT route in this notification; it belongs to the TGT and PGT cadres. The RCI diploma route matters because the notification separately carries 494 Special Educator posts alongside the 2,684 general PRT vacancies and 187 PRT (Music) posts, so the same qualification can point at more than one line of the vacancy table.

Age thirty, and the relaxations that move it

The upper age limit for PRT is thirty years, the tightest of the teaching cadres in this notification, against forty as commonly reported for PGT. The relaxations are substantial: ten years for women across categories applying to PRT, TGT, PGT and Librarian posts, five years for SC and ST, three for OBC (non-creamy layer), and ten, thirteen or fifteen years for PwBD candidates depending on category. Because KVS advertises so infrequently, the interaction between the low ceiling and the long gap between cycles is the real constraint: a candidate who was 29 in December 2025 and did not apply may be outside the band whenever the next notification appears.

A senior secondary paper with descriptive marks

Tier-2 is 70 questions for 100 marks over two and a half hours, 60 objective questions of one mark with 0.25 deducted for a wrong answer and ten descriptive questions carrying 40 marks, set bilingually in Hindi and English. For PRT the standard is senior secondary, so the difficulty lies not in depth of content but in the descriptive block, which asks candidates who have studied at diploma level to write extended answers under time pressure. Tier-1, by contrast, is a two-hour qualifying paper of 100 questions for 300 marks on reasoning, numeric ability, computer literacy, general knowledge and two language sections, with a full mark deducted from three for each wrong answer.

Reading the old PRT cut-off correctly

The PRT cut-off most often quoted runs 135.09 for unreserved candidates, 127.47 EWS, 127.25 OBC, 121.66 SC, 103.32 ST, 118.31 OH and 110.66 VH. Those are decimal marks from an earlier cycle under the older pattern, in which the written test carried 70 per cent of merit and the interview 30, and PRT (Music) used a 70:15:15 split adding a performance test. They cannot be mapped onto a Tier-2 paper marked out of 100. The useful reading is the spread: about fourteen marks separated unreserved from SC and about thirty-two from ST, a wide band that reflects the size of the PRT field rather than an easy paper.

How many KVS PRT vacancies were notified in the 2025 recruitment?

Recruitment Notification 01/2025 lists 3,365 PRT-family posts for Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. Of these, 2,684 are general PRT vacancies, distributed as 1,089 unreserved, 268 EWS, 724 OBC (non-creamy layer), 402 SC and 201 ST, with a further 494 Special Educator posts and 187 PRT (Music) posts. Coaching portals subsequently reported a revised PRT total of 3,630 as part of the revision that lifted the KVS overall count from 9,126 to 9,921. Is CTET Paper-I compulsory for KVS PRT?

Yes. The notification makes a pass in CTET Paper-I, conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, an essential qualification for the PRT post, to be held as at the closing date of the application. A concession of up to five per cent marks is available to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and PwBD candidates. CTET Paper-II is the requirement for TGT and Special Educator-TGT posts, not PRT. The CTET score does not contribute to the KVS merit list; it operates purely as an eligibility condition.

Can I apply for KVS PRT with a B.Ed. instead of D.El.Ed.?

Applications for Notification 01/2025 closed on 11 December 2025 and that cycle is at its final stage, with Tier-2 results released in phases from 17 August 2026 and Tier-3 call letters from 7 September 2026. KVS has not announced a fresh notification. The only live route is contractual: individual Kendriya Vidyalayas are registering contractual PRT candidates through the Samvida Sathi portal with walk-in interviews and deadlines running into October 2026, at reported monthly pay of around 21,250 rupees, which is a school-level engagement rather than a regular Level-6 appointment.
