Alerts and Updates for GATE Geology and Geophysics

GATE 2027 is organized by IIT Madras, whose official notification and brochure was released on 20 July 2026 at the gate2027.iitm.ac.in portal. Geology and Geophysics (GG) is one of 30 papers, held as a computer-based test on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027.

GOAPS registration for GATE 2027, originally planned for 14 August 2026, was postponed and opened on 27 August 2026 instead. The regular deadline without late fee is 27 September 2026, with a late-fee window until 5 October 2026; DigiLocker registration and live facial verification are now mandatory.

GATE Geology and Geophysics (GG) is a 100-mark, 3-hour paper with no separate Engineering Mathematics section. A common Part A covers core earth-science topics such as plate tectonics, mineralogy and remote sensing, while Part B lets candidates choose either B1 (advanced Geology) or B2 (advanced Geophysics).

IIT Madras has not yet assigned the GG paper a specific date or session within the six exam days; this is expected to be confirmed only when admit cards are released. GATE 2027 results are scheduled for 19 March 2027, per the official portal.

GATE 2027 has not been officially notified yet. IIT Madras is expected to be the organising institute, with the notification projected for late July 2026, the GOAPS application window around 24 August to 13 October 2026, and the exam expected on 6, 7, 13 and 14 February 2027. All these dates remain tentative.

IIT Guwahati declared the GATE 2026 result on 19 March 2026 with separate cut-offs for the two GG streams. Geology (GG-1) closed at 39.3 for General, 35.3 for OBC-NCL/EWS and 26.1 for SC/ST/PwD, while Geophysics (GG-2) closed at 37.1, 33.3 and 24.7 respectively.

GG retains its split structure: General Aptitude 15 marks, a compulsory Part A of 25 marks, and a 60-mark Part B in which you must choose either Geology or Geophysics. That choice is made while filling the application, so decide before the GOAPS window closes.

No syllabus change has been announced for GATE 2027, so the GATE 2026 Geology and Geophysics syllabus published by the organising institute remains the working reference. Until IIT Madras releases the 2027 brochure, treat circulating exam dates, fees and syllabus claims as unofficial.

A GATE score stays valid for three years from the announcement of results, so a GG score from GATE 2026, declared on 19 March 2026, remains usable until March 2029 for M.Tech, M.Sc and PhD admissions and for recruitment by organisations that accept GATE Geology and Geophysics scores.
