Alerts and Updates for GATE Chemical Engineering

IIT Madras is the organizing institute for GATE 2027 and released the official notification and brochure on 20 July 2026 at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The exam, covering 30 papers including Chemical Engineering (CH), will be a computer-based test held on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027.

GATE 2027 registration, originally planned for 14 August 2026, was postponed; the GOAPS application portal opened on 27 August 2026 and is open now. Regular registration (no late fee) closes 27 September 2026, with an extended late-fee window until 5 October 2026.

IIT Madras has revised the GATE 2027 Chemical Engineering syllabus after five years to align with current industry and academic standards, spanning ten sections from Engineering Mathematics and Process Calculations through Chemical Reaction Engineering and Plant Design; candidates should download the updated CH syllabus PDF from the official portal.

The specific date and session (forenoon or afternoon) for the CH paper within the six exam days has not been announced yet; IIT Madras will assign each of the 30 papers a slot, confirmed only when admit cards are released, expected around early January 2027.

GATE 2027, including the CH paper, will be organised by IIT Madras. The official notification and information brochure are not out yet as of July 11, 2026; they are expected in the last week of July 2026. The exam is tentatively scheduled for February 6, 7, 13 and 14, 2027.

As per the tentative GATE 2027 calendar, the GOAPS application window opens on August 24, 2026, with the regular-fee deadline on September 29, 2026 and a late-fee window until October 13, 2026. Admit cards are expected from January 3, 2027 and results in March 2027.

For benchmarking, IIT Guwahati's official GATE 2026 qualifying cut-off for CH (Chemical Engineering) was 25 marks for General, 22.5 for OBC-NCL/EWS and 16.6 for SC/ST/PwD. GATE 2027 cut-offs are set afresh after the exam and will be published by IIT Madras.

GATE 2026 results were announced on March 19, 2026 and a GATE score stays valid for three years from the date of announcement of results. So a 2026 CH scorecard remains usable for admissions into March 2029, alongside any GATE 2027 attempt.

No syllabus or pattern revision has been announced for CH; the paper is expected to keep the 65-question, 100-mark, three-hour format with General Aptitude worth 15 marks. Under the two-paper option, CH may be combined with ES (Environmental Science), PE (Petroleum) or XE (Engineering Sciences). Confirm against the official brochure when released.
